Why is TEXAS so SUCCESSFUL? - VisualPolitik EN

08:31
Since the beginning of the financial crisis in December 2007, Texas, which represents around 8% of the U.S. population, has been responsible for one out of every four new jobs created in the country. Having said this, it is also no surprise that more and more people consider Texas as the true economic driver of the U.S. And even though the economy in Texas is suffering from the fall in oil prices, very few people believe that this state won’t keep its lead thanks to its increasingly diversified economy. So, you might be wondering now: What exactly is so special about Texas? We’ll tell you all about it in this video. Did you enjoy our video? How is ETHIOPIA Escaping POVERTY? - VisualPolitik EN

11:26
Ethiopia has an image problem. For years, this gigantic country, the second most populated in all of Africa with almost 100 million inhabitants, was synonymous with extreme poverty, hunger, disease, wars... in short.... true misery. However, everything began to change in Ethiopia in the new century. Even though Ethiopia remains a very poor country, even under African standards, during the last decade this country has become one of the fastest growing economies, not only in Africa but in the entire planet. However, as Ethiopia was beginning to live an economic takeoff, it also became one of the countries with the least liberties and a model of censorship and repression. However now, with a new Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed and a new government... the country’s course has completely changed course. Will Ethiopia become the great African power? How are they trying to escape poverty? We’ll tell you all about it in this video. How did MACAU surpass VEGAS? - VisualPolitik EN

Macau is an autonomous region on the south coast of China, across the Pearl River Delta from Hong Kong. A Portuguese territory until 1999, it reflects a mix of cultural influences. Its giant casinos and malls on the Cotai Strip, which joins the islands of Taipa and Coloane, have earned it the nickname, "Las Vegas of Asia." One of its more striking landmarks is 338m-high Macau Tower, with sweeping city views. Did you enjoy our video? Click the 'subscribe' button and stay tuned for our new videos every week! How is AFRICA escaping POVERTY? - VisualPolitik EN

12:22
A change is reaching the most unprotected region in the world, sub-Saharan Africa. We already talked about the African lions, and paid special attention to cases like Rwanda. However, we still need to talk about when and why this region of the world, which so many considered hopelessly destitute, began to change. Africa and the so-called African lions is one of the fastest-growing economic regions on the planet, just like South East Asia was in the 80s and 90s. And there is way more than NGOs and development aid here. Open markets and international investment are playing a key role in Africa's kickstart. How Did ARGENTINA'S Long CRISIS Begin? - VisualPolitik EN

14:31
It’s widely known: Argentina isn’t going through its best moment. In recent years this country has become a synonym of crisis, problems and all kinds of economic calamities. The process that Argentina has undergone is unique, it arrived at the XX century struggling to occupy the first position among the richest countries on the planet, and today, it’s struggling to halt poverty to someday reach the developed country status. Throughout this entire process, a political approach, which is as popular as it’s difficult to understand, has had an almost absolute influence: Peronism. And this is because in the last 70 years, Juan Domingo Perón, a Lieutenant Colonel who became President of Argentina, has had an enormous influence on the country’s politics. So great, that it’s difficult to determine if there’s a politician in Argentina who isn’t Peronist. Now, what exactly is Peronism? How did it come about? What impact has it really had on the country? How has it influenced Argentina? We’ll tell you all about it in this video. * When making this video, we had the invaluable help of the Argentine historian, Alejandro Gómez, Professor of the CEMA University and Visiting Professor in the UFM. Why is PUERTO RICO depopulating? - VisualPolitik EN

11:11
For more than 10 years, the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico has been going through a severe economic crisis that has even caused the island's authorities to be forced to declare bankruptcy, the bankruptcy of the government of Puerto Rico. This is the biggest bankruptcy of a public administration in the history of the United States. And if that weren’t enough, last September 2017, Hurricane Maria caused huge damages throughout Puerto Rico... damages valued at 100 billion dollars and from which the island has not yet recovered. However, despite the seriousness of the situation, this isn’t Puerto Rico’s biggest problem. Its biggest problem is that despite being the richest Caribbean island, one that has an enviable climate and beautiful white sand beaches, Puerto Rico is experiencing an authentic exodus that seriously threatens the island’s future. Argentina, The ROBBERY of the Century? - VisualPolitik EN

Recently, what could be the largest corruption plot in the history of Argentina and one of the largest looting public funds operations in the history of the world has been uncovered. The plot of the ·notebooks began when Néstor Kirchner became president of Argentina in May 2003 and continued under his wife’s presidency, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner until 2015. During these more than 10 years, billions of dollars were extracted from the Argentine government ‘s public treasury with two very clear objectives: to fill their pockets and consolidate the Kirchners’s power. Politicians, judges, officials and some of the most important businessmen of Argentina participated actively in this whole operation. * In the elaboration of this video, we had the inestimable collaboration of the Argentine historian, Alejandro Gómez, Professor of CEMA University and Visiting Professor in the UFM. North Korea is a poor, oppressive and hermetic country. It is permanently in the limelight due to its government’s actions, North Korea and its leader, Kim Jong-un have repeatedly put the international community in check. In North Korea the state controls everything and the leader, Kim Jong-un, is practically considered a deity. However, despite being ruled by the Juche, an ideological variant of Marxism, in recent years the private economy has begun to grow parallel to the government. Private markets and trade now represent the main livelihood for a very important part of the North Korean people and the government is already considering some reforms similar to those carried out by Deng Xiaoping in China. Is capitalism coming to North Korea? To what extent can things change? We will tell you all about it in this video. Why is BRAZIL so EXPENSIVE? - VisualPolitik EN

11:56
Lately, we hear a lot if news about corruption, urban violence and political crisis in Brazil. Nonetheless, there is another important characteristic of Brazil that is not so much covered by media: their relatively high cost of living. Brazil is, by far, the most expensive country in South America. But their salaries are not that high. In fact, other countries in the region have way better wages. Brazilians have even a term to define this discrepancy. They call it “custo brazil”. It is the price you have to pay for living in the land of samba and carnival. So why does this happen and how do the Brazilian people live with so many high prices? In this video, we will talk about the political and economic reaons that made this country so expensive. The high tariffs, the instalment culture and the credit cards nightmare. What is COMMUNISM ALL ABOUT? - VisualPolitik EN

08:06
The internet is full of trolls who either praise Marx, or hate him, without ever having read him. That´s why people end up believing a lot of wrong stereotypes about communism. Before we start, I will say that this is a summary of Karl Marx’s and Friedrich Engels ideas only! We’ve only got 10 minutes, so it’s going to be impossible to cover the authors who came after or the Soviet Union. With that out of the way, let’s get started! Did you enjoy our video? AMERICA, Why are some COUNTRIES RICH and others POOR? - VisualPolitik EN

12:33
Why are some countries rich and others poor? It sounds like an easy question but... nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the origin of wealth is one of the key issues, if not the most important issue, in political debates. Are there poor countries because there are rich countries? Do the richest countries have any special geographical characteristics that determine their success? Are natural resources the source of their wealth? Are their inhabitants smarter? In this video we’ll try to answer these questions, and we’ll do so by taking a look at the history of the American continent. Why The NETHERLANDS is the World's AGRICULTURE leader? - VisualPolitik EN

14:12
If we ask you who do you think is the World’s biggest potato exporter, you might answer America or maybe China… Those are big countries, with good soil and favourable climate. But despite all of this, the right answer would be the Netherlands, commonly known as Holland. In fact, they are the biggest food exporter right after the United States. This is surprising given that Netherlands is a really small, densely populated, wealthy country. All this features would make a country move away from the primary sector. They almost have no farming land and, having some of the most successful multinational corporations, it is counterintuitive that somebody would choose a job in a farm that one on the corporate world. Nonetheless, we can say Netherlands is the Silicon Valley of agriculture. Or, as they like to call themselves, the Food Valley. Thanks to the famous University of Wageningen, this country has combined rocket science with farming. But how did Netherlands achieve this success? What are the main keys for Dutch agriculture? What’s the secret of this little country? In this video, we will tell you all of that. How Venezuela Became a NARCO-STATE - VisualPolitik EN

At the beginning of the 80s, the historic Medellin Cartel leader, Pablo Escobar had a dream: to turn Colombia into a country that would be directly controlled by drug traffickers. Fortunately for the Colombians, Pablo Escobar never achieved his ambition. However, 3 decades later it looks like this dream is coming true. Of course not... in Colombia but in Venezuela. We all know that Venezuela is going through a huge economic and social crisis. The Bolivarian revolution has plundered and practically pillaged all of the country's resources. But... that's not all. Is EUROPE ending PROTECTIONISM in AGRICULTURE? - VisualPolitik EN

15:37
Despite living in a globalizad economy, where international trade is the norm and most of the products we use daily are manufactured abroad, agriculture is the still an island of protectionism. Farms are extremely protected all over the world. Is not easy to find a country that has no tariffs, subsidies or quotas for their Primary sector. In Europe, the Common Agricultural Policy –also known as CAP—means over 72 billion USD to the European budget. But the Brexit has become a turning point to this. Since Great Britain was one of the biggest net contributor to CAP, Brussels must cut a lot of those subsidies and, gradually, starting a liberalization. Are we witnessing the end of the CAP in Europe? Could this be a model for other countries? Shall we see an end for agriculture protectionism all over the world? North Korea, BUSINESS TIME? - VisualPolitik EN

13:58
North Korea is perhaps the most hermetic, closed and isolated country on the planet. A country that now, in 2018, seems to be living in 1960. However, now this entire story may be about to change. Once their nuclear capabilities are developed, Pyongyang’s number one priority is to achieve the economic development of North Korea. On the table, as role models, are the examples of China and Vietnam, two countries that from a situation that was not very different from current North Korea, managed to reap great economic success in recent decades. Now, is the Kim Jong Un regime really ready to start a capitalist transition and open North Korea to the World? And even if they were, who on earth would be willing to invest in North Korea? SOUTH AFRICA, Can Corruption SINK a Country? - VisualPolitik EN

12:01
With a vibrant democracy, a huge market, a free press and a large number of civic organizations, for years, South Africa was Africa´s great hope. However, in recent years, under Jacob Zuma’s administration, everything became twisted: South Africa’s growth disappeared, racial conflicts returned and corruption took over the country. Today, Nelson Mandela's dream of a free and prosperous South Africa runs the risk of becoming a nightmare. However, in February a new president, Cyril Ramaphosa, came to power with a new government. Could South Africa go back on the right path, or are we facing the great African disappointment? What the hell caused the good years to end? Is the white population at risk? BASQUE COUNTRY: the WEALTHIEST region in SPAIN? – VisualPolitik EN

12:32
Spain isn’t exactly a role model as far as economics is concerned. However, there’s a region that doesn’t all in this category: we’re talking about the Basque Country, also known as Euskadi. Along with Navarra, these are two of the richest and most prosperous regions in the entire country. We could say that these two regions are something like a small Germany within Spain, with an entirely different political system to the rest of the country and a business sector more typical of Northern than Southern Europe. This area has a fiscal system completely different from the rest of Spain and enjoys a great autonomy and decentralization. Why are the Basque Country and Navarre richer than the rest of Spain? Why do we say that they have a different political system to the rest of the country? In this video, we will answer all this questions. Is ITALY worse off with the EURO? - VisualPolitik EN

14:25
Italy is the only country, alongside with Greece, that is poorer now than before having the EURO as their official currency. In fact, their economy has been stagnated for two decades and they are one of the biggest indebted economies, with a debt bigger than 130% of their GDP. Many European pundits call this country “the sick man in Europe”. Nevertheless, 20 years ago, Italy was one of the wealthiest economies on the planet. Their citizens were even richer than those from Great Britain and their industry was the second biggest in all across Europe. The entire world enjoyed the music of Eros Ramazzotti or Luciano Pavarotti, the Spaguetti Western movies and... well, the Rocco Siffredi movies too. Now those days are gone. This is why many Italian politicians suggest that leaving the Euro would be a solution to get back to the golden years of the Italian economy. But is it right? Is the Euro the problem in Italy? Why are they in such a big crisis? And why did Italy become so rich in the 80s and the 90s, despite the corruption, the red tape and the political unrest? In this video we will answer all of those questions. *ERRATUM Min 8.40: There is a mistake in the chart. It says "1 It LIRA = 400 DM" and "1 It. LIRA = 1300 DM". We meant it the other way around.
