TFSA & RRSP Accounts - What accounts do I need to open to manage my own money?

This is a sample lecture taken from my Canadian online investing course called the Personal Pension Academy. In this online course, I teach people how to manage their own money and start building true wealth. My goal in this course is to help investors do 2 things. 1. Completely eliminate or drastically reduce management fees (including mutual fund MER and management fees) that they may not even know they are paying and eating into their wealth 2. Generate a second pay cheque from their savings and/or investments so that money is deposited into their account monthly. I teach people to tap into the potential gold mine that lies hidden in their savings. This lecture is Step 3 of my 8 step process on getting your finances in order to start investing in some solid dividend and income paying stocks and securities. There are 3 types of accounts in Canada that you can set up in order to start managing and investing your own money. - Direct Trading account - RRSP Account (registered account) - TFSA Account (registered account All of these accounts can be opened at a discount brokerage including those offered by the 6 large chartered banks in Canada. They will be need to be set up as self-directed meaning that you have to manage it yourself. In these types of accounts, there are no management fees, just commissions on the purchase and sale of securities. In the Personal Pension Academy, our goal is to buy stocks and other income paying securities that will generate a monthly or quarterly cash flow. My philosophy is that we all go to work for a pay cheque, and our investments should as well. Unfortunately mutual funds do no accomplish this because of the high management fees and mutual fund's MER. You have to invest your money directly if you are going to be successful. Here are some other resources to help you on your way to building wealth and becoming a successful investor. Dividend & Income Investing - What a famous fable can teach us about dividend investing

Dividend & Income Investing – What a famous fable can teach us about investing *LIMITED TIME PROMOTIONAL OFFER* New website launch. Take the full Personal Pension Academy online course for ONLY $97 CDN (All taxes included). Regular price of $497 -- *Save $400 off the usual course and workshop fee* -- Click on the following coupon link: http://personal-pension-academy.teachable.com/courses/personal-pension-academy?product_id=97148&coupon_code=YOUTUBE_SUBSCRIBE&preview=logged_out In this video tutorial I provide students with an interesting perspective on investing in dividend and income paying stocks. Most of the investment advice and philosophy in today’s investment world focuses on buying stocks and hoping that the stock price or the market value of the investment goes up. Everyone is always looking for the “10 banger” … those stocks that you buy today and hope will go up 10 times in value. Unfortunately, those types of stocks (like Apple or Microsoft in the early days) don’t come up every day. Dividend and income investing is what we prescribe in the Personal Pension Academy course. This video shows us that slow and steady wins the race. Anything else would just be gambling. If you buy a stock that pays a dividend, over time that stock will increase in value. The reason is quite simple. Only stocks that make a consistent profit are able to pay out regular dividends. Isn’t that what investing is all about? Investing in businesses that make money (i.e. a profit)? Why would anyone put their money into anything else. Even Kevin O’Leary has stated numerous time that he only invests his money in companies that pay him a dividend. Hey if it's good enough for a Dragon (Dragon's Den and Shark Tank) then it is definitely good enough for me. I'm sure even Warren Buffett would agree. TFSA Account and RRSP Investing – Many Canadians have investments in TFSA accounts and RRSP accounts but have relied on financial advisors and planners to manage their money. This usually results in most people having a majority of their money invested in mutual funds, which in my opinion, are the worst possible investment anyone can make. In the Personal Pension Academy, we spend module one analyzing the hidden fees you are paying with these mutual funds. If you take this investment philosophy and purchase dividend and income paying stocks for your TFSA Account and RRSP account, then you will be on the right track to build true wealth for your retirement. Best of all you don’t have to wait until you retire to start drawing the income. You can start earning a pay cheque from your investment right away. It is, in my opinion, the Holy Grail of tax planning. In this video, we'll see exactly why. The TFSA account can be used as a savings vehicle or a means to fund your retirement in a tax-free manner. In this video tutorial, I'll show you a very effective investment strategy to turn your TFSA into your own personal pension. I'll also show you how you can reap the benefits of a pension and start collecting right away. Best of all, this "pension payment" is completely tax free. You won't have to pay a cent in tax and you won't have to report it on your tax return. I'll also go over the some the advantages this TFSA investment strategy has over the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and the Old Age Security (OAS) benefit. You'll be surprised and excited at what you can do. Wealth Management For Canadians – A money murdering formula they would rather you not know

08:21
Wealth Management For Canadians – Rule of 40 - The money murdering formula the mutual fund industry would rather you not know ENROLL IN THE PERSONAL PENSION ACADEMY NOW FOR ONLY $97 (ALL TAXES INCLUDED) http://personalpensionacademy.com/ Have you ever wondered why it is so difficult to get ahead with your investing? Ever wonder why the long term horizon and those incredible returns financial and investment advisors promise never seems to happen? Well there is a simple reason for this .. just look at the sky line of any downtown Canadian city and you’ll see it littered with the big banks and financial institutions. There’s a reason for this. Banks, investment firms and advisors eat up a third of your wealth … that is 1/3 of your hard earned money and investment returns … and keep it for themselves. Management fees charged by mutual funds, banks and other financial or investment advisors are hidden. They are buried in the performance of the mutual fund. Ask any Canadian about how much they pay their investment advisor and most will either tell you one of two things .. they either don’t know, or worse yet, they tell you that their advisor doesn’t charge them anything. The reason they say this is because they don’t actually have to physically write out a cheque or transfer money to pay them .. they just help themselves from your investment account. In this video tutorial, we look at a very interesting formula which an actuary discovered that deals with your wealth and how much you are really paying the investment industry to manage your money. You don’t have to be an actuary to use this. It is very simple to calculate and it provides you with a mind-boggling number which I think you will find interesting. Are your Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA) or Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) account invested in Canadian mutual funds? Did you know that a study was recently done that showed that Canadian mutual funds charge the highest management fees in the world? Sure, why not. The industry never had to really disclosed how much you paid them on an annual basis .. thankfully that is going to change with some new transparency and reporting rules put into place by the Canadian government. Check out my Wealth Accelerator Course which is free here on YouTube or on my web page. My goal is to completely transform the way people think about money and money management. http://www.dinovoconsulting.com/wealth-accelerator If you agree with what I have to say, then you may be interested in taking my flagship Personal Pension Academy course for only $97. It is, in my opinion, the Holy Grail of tax planning. The TFSA account can be used as a savings vehicle or a means to fund your retirement in a tax-free manner. In the Personal Pension Academy, we show you how to invest using your TFSA so that it becomes your own little personal pension plan. Do you hold mutual funds in your TFSA or in your Canadian RRSP? If you do, you could be putting yourself behind the 8-ball and setting yourself up for failure. Canadian mutual funds are rated the worst in the world when it comes to management fees (MER). In this free training series leading to the Personal Pension Academy training course I will open your eyes to what goes on in the financial industry. In fact, I'll show you things that bankers, financial planners and investment advisers would rather you not know. Mutual funds have many fees and costs associated with them which are not very well disclosed. This costs Canadian investors hundreds and even thousands of dollars in fees. Investment Returns Vs. Performance - Stock Investing

15:12
Investment Returns Vs. Performance - The difference between an investment's return and its performance (16 of 18) In my opinion, one of the most inappropriately used words when it comes to investing is "return." I have a completely difference view when it comes to investment returns and investment performance. It is used frequently when discussing how well your investments are doing, but what does it really mean? In this video, I discuss what "return" should really mean, and contrast it with what I believe is really a discussions of a stock or security's performance. It is an important difference that everyone should wrap their minds around. I also discuss this in the context of what I call "Personal Pension Academy Math," that is, the numbers you should really be calculating. Canadian Investing - The financial industry is system set up for your failure

15:06
Canadian Investing - The financial industry is system set up for your failure (Tutorial 10 of 18) We are going to begin by looking at the biggest mistake most people make when it comes to money management ... they rely on "professional" money managers or financial planners. Unfortunately, many people have NO idea what this "advise" and money management is really costing them. In this video lecture I examine professional advisors and the way they are paid. We then apply this financial system compensation method to our new cash flow quadrant. The strategies taught in this course can be applied to your TFSA Account (Canada) and RRSP Account. It teaches you how to generate a second pay cheque from your Canadian Investments.

A look at immigration and emigration to and from Canada is also briefly discussed along with the importance of disclosing this properly on the T1 Return. All income on the Canadian Personal T1 return is reported in the first part of the T1 General tax returns. A close glance and all the line items in the 100 series lines shows the breakdown of various sources of income. Sources of income include (but are not limited to) employment income from T4 slips; pension income for seniors from various sources (i.e. OAS, CPP, RRSP, RRIF); business income; rental income; income from various investments including interest income, dividend income (eligible and ineligible dividends) which are mainly reported on T3 and T4 tax slips; capital gains and losses from the sale of properties and other assets; income from social assistance programs in Canada and the various Provinces, etc. It is important that all income is claimed and reported on the T1 General tax return, otherwise you could find yourself in hot water with the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency). In this video, I explain the difference between income reported on slips and income that you have to self-assess and report on your T1 tax return. Preparing T1 Returns – Claiming personal tax credits on Schedule 1 (Part 4 of 5)

In the previous tutorial, we looked at tax deductions and their importance in figuring out what someone’s taxable income is. Now that we know what taxable income is going to be reported on the T1 return, the next step is to determine Federal and Provincial tax. This is done by properly filling out Schedule 1 – Federal Tax of the T1 General tax return. Personal tax credits are found on this schedule along with the calculation for the federal tax itself (i.e. tax brackets). Not everyone is entitled to every tax credit, obviously. Claiming personal tax credits on a Canadian personal tax return can be quite tricky because the rules and criteria for all of them can be quite complicated and tricky. For the most part, tax credits that are generally claimed are as follows: Basic personal amount, age amount for seniors, employment amount for those with T4 income, tax credits for CPP and EI premiums paid on employment income or self-employment income, public transit passes, children’s fitness and arts credits (which are now eliminated for the 2017 tax year and going forward), disability tax credit, medical expenses tax credit, donations tax credit, caregiver amount, etc. In this tutorial I look at the tax credits claimed by a simple taxpayer with employment income and some investment income. Once income has been determined, the next important step in the T1 preparation process is to determine the deductions from income that can be claimed. In general, there are not very many deductions from income, especially if you have employment and pension income. The common deductions found in the deduction section of the T1 General return are: Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) deductions; Registered Pension Plan (RPP) deductions if you are an employee and contribute to a pension plan at work; moving expenses, child care expenses (form T778), employment expenses for those who meet the criteria (Form T2200 and the T777 Statement of Employment Expenses), Allowable Business Investment Losses (ABILs); capital gains deductions, deductions for spousal support paid, etc. It is important to distinguish between a tax deduction and a tax credit. Tax credits are not claimed in the second section of the T1 general return. Those are the subject of the next training video in this series and can be found on Schedule 1 – Fedeeral Tax of the T1 return. Once you have completed entering all the personal income tax data into the T1 general return, the final and very important step is a thorough review and reasonability check of the personal tax return. Often times, many data input mistakes are made when entering information from the box numbers on various T3, T4 & T5 slips. In this video tutorial, I take you through a step-by-step process on reviewing the tax return to see if it makes sense. In most cases, you should have a pretty consistent tax return from one year to the next. One way to check the T1 tax return is to review the current year’s tax situation, income slips, deduction and tax credits on Schedule 1 with the previous year (or previous 2 years) to make sure nothing has been missed. If you are a CPA student or accounting/tax student looking for tax preparation experience, this is a vital area to ensure that you are filing an accurate tax return for the client. In my Preparing Personal Returns Start to Finish – Best Practices course, I provide students with a system for checking tax returns to make sure nothing was missed and all the information is on the tax return itself. The following are the other videos in this YouTube training series on Preparing T1 Personal Tax Returns Part 1 - Inputting Proper Personal Information (Part 1 of 5) https://youtu.be/o2NwudCiuuQ Part 2 - Reporting income and inputting T-slips on the T1 tax return https://youtu.be/x2N9D-jwnvA Part 3 - Determining T1 income tax deductions and reporting on the T1 return https://youtu.be/FFCYvDBXSz4 You can check out my other YouTube tax videos here along with a detailed outline of the Canadian tax Academy Preparing Personal Tax Returns – Introductory course. Home Equity Line of Credit Trap - Your home is not an asset and lines of credit will bleed you dry

12:56
Home Equity Line of Credit Trap - Your home is not an asset by my definition (7 of 18) Do you remember my definition of an asset earlier in this course? If you use my definition you will soon realize that your home is not really an asset. Actually, come to think of it, I consider it more of a money pit. In this lecture I throw convention to the wind and explain why I think this is the case. As I have taught in previous lectures in this online money course, building wealth is all about managing cash flow. When you increase your line of credit you are not on the right track to building wealth. You are digging yourself a hole that will take ages to climb out of. Many of you may not agree with me. Unfortunately, that is one of the problems that is holding you back from achieving financial independence. It is, in my opinion, the Holy Grail of tax planning. The Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) is a vehicle to help Canadians save money and invest for their retirement. If used properly, it can be developed and build into your personal pension plan. That is what this course is all about. The TFSA account can be used as a savings vehicle or a means to fund your retirement in a tax-free manner. In the Personal Pension Academy, I take you through the journey of managing your own money. Don't think that it can't be done. Anyone can do it and I'll show you how you can have a 'couch potato' approach to money management and start earning a second paycheque from your existing savings. I will show you how to take investing to a grass roots level. I will convince you that Canadian mutual funds are the worst investment anyone can make for their financial future. It's all covered in this course. In the first three videos of this training (play list) I hope I have opened your eyes to few things that are vital to your financial independence and success. If you haven't watched these videos yet, they are listed here. Wealth Management for Canadians #4 - Wealth building formula

11:10
Wealth Management For Canadians #4 – Using the wealth building formulas in this series to build a portfolio and create wealth ENROLL IN THE PERSONAL PENSION ACADEMY NOW FOR ONLY $97 (ALL TAXES INCLUDED) http://personalpensionacademy.com/ In this series, I’ve gone over three really simple, but extremely useful ratios or formulas that you can use to apply to your own investing and build wealth. First, I taught you how to avoid giving a third of your wealth away to banks or financial advisors using the Rule of 40. Second, I taught you how long it would take to double your money at a given rate of return by analyzing the Rule of 72. And finally, we looked at a similar ratio that told us how long it would take for us to get our money back … how long to be repaid on our original investment. These 2 formulas were similar. The difference was due to compounding and I also showed you the power of compounding. In this tutorial, I show you how to put it all together and have these formulas drive your investment methodology and completely change the outlook of your investment and retirement planning. In my opinion, retirement planning in Canada is usually an uphill battle because of the way the entire wealth and banking industry is set up. High fees, as I showed you in the Rule of 40 video, plays a critical role in your retirement planning. It’s quite simple the more money that stays in your investment account and can be re-invested, the better off you will be. The approach is quite simple. Avoid investing in securities that charge you a management fee and invest only in securities that you know will allow you to double your money at some point. That’s what investing is all about. If you have a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) and/or a Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA), then you need to start putting a plan like this in place right away to start on the road to success. Right now, you are likely invested in mutual funds because that is where everyone tells you that you should be invested. I’m telling you the opposite. I’m telling you to start taking matters into your own hands and put the money to work for you. It’s not that difficult. Subscribe to my YouTube channel and I will teach you how to manage your own money. I’ll show you that market value investing is not the way to build true wealth. In my Personal Pension Academy and Wealth Accelerator courses, I give you a step-by step blueprint on building an investment plan that works. You won’t need to pay high priced advisors to put it together. Do you know why? Because it is based on logic and grass roots investing. Preparing Tax Returns - Best Practices: A valuable tool in the tax return review process This tutorial was taken from the intermediate online tax course offered at the Canadian Tax Academy called Preparing Tax Returns Start to Finish - Best Practices. You can check it out at our website: www.CanadianTaxCourses.com To enrol at the promotional price of $89 (normally $199), click on this link: https://canadian-tax-academy.teachable.com/p/preparing-tax-returns-start-to-finish-best-practices/?product_id=196667&coupon_code=YOUTUBE_PROMO89 We offer in-depth tax courses on Canadian tax returns and filling out the T1 General tax return from start to finish. The courses are, by far, the most comprehensive tax courses on the internet offering real world tax training and guidance. Preparing personal T1 returns can be quite a challenge in today's Canadian tax landscape. It is not enough to just enter the tax slips and information a client provides you. A good tax preparer will do a thorough review as opposed to just inputting data and filing the tax return. In this tax software tutorial, I review a very valuable tool in the tax preparation review process. I show you how to use the Comparative Tax Summary found on most professional tax software to figure out what the client could be missing. It ensures that an extra step is taken to ensure you have all of the client information to complete the T1 Return accurately. In this tutorial, I use the Canadian tax software called Intuit Profile which is the same company that develops QuickBooks and TurboTax which is an off the shelf Canadian tax preparation software package. The comparative summary is available on all professional tax software, including CCH TaxPrep. Off-the-shelf pacakges such as Ufile, TurboTax and others should have similar functions. Wealth Management For Canadians – Rule of 72 – How to Calculate How Long It Will Take To Double Your Money ENROLL IN THE PERSONAL PENSION ACADEMY NOW FOR ONLY $97 (ALL TAXES INCLUDED) http://personalpensionacademy.com/ In the first tutorial of this series, I taught you the money murdering formula that showed us how long it took for the banks and financial industry to eat up one third of our money. In this video lesson we take a more positive approach and look at a formula that will tell us how many years it will take to double our money at a given rate of return. Best of all it’s one of those formulas you can do right of the top of your head. Retirement planning is not that complicated if you approach it from the right direction. I’m a big advocate of income investing. What does that mean? Well it’s quite simple. We all go to work for a pay cheque that is deposited into out bank accounts on a regular basis right? Why can’t we set up our investments to do the same thing? Get a nice pay cheque deposited into our investment account on a consistent basis. Then we can do what we please with these payments. (PS I suggest reinvesting them and using the power of compounding to your advantage, but hey go ahead and go blow it all in Vegas if you like). Doubling our money is a great milestone in our journey to building wealth. I always suggest being patient with your money and building a portfolio that you can count on. With the Personal Pension Academy, I teach people how to invest in securities where you won’t have to rely just on increases in a stock’s market value to achieve your goals. We’ll have another weapon … cold hard cash. Dividend and income distributions that will ensure that we double our money in the not too distant future. As Canadians, we are in a pretty good position in that we have some solid industries that have made it a habit to pay out dividends on a quarterly or even monthly basis. We can even invest in real estate without ever having to worry about changing a light bulb. This means that our journey to doubling our money is a lot easier. And it’s not refundable the way market values are .. just ask anyone who invested in Nortel Networks. Check out my Wealth Accelerator Course which is free here on YouTube or on my web page. Stock Market Investing - The Misguided Approach To Market Value Investing (11 of 18) Does this ring a bell ... you receive your investment statements in late January or early February and you ask yourself "How did I do last year?" You only look at the market value of your investments and then you base your entire analysis and actions on that number. Is that really the best course of action when it comes to managing your money and your investments? What does market value really tell us about our investments. We are hard-wired to focus on market value which is the completely wrong thing to do. Is that really what investing is all about? Trading the stock market? Like playing the slots at a casino? In this money management tutorial, I take you through the pitfalls of modern day investing convention and relying on the stock price alone to determine your success or failure with your investments. Investing Formula - Solution 5-5-5 spreadsheet and examples (Tutorial 15 of 18) Now let's look at the pension building formula 5-5-5. After watching this video you'll soon realized how easy it is to begin using the power of compounding and distributions to your advantage. Wealth Management for Canadians - Payback Period on Investments

09:35
Wealth & Money Management For Canadians – Payback Period. How long will it take to get my money back? ENROLL IN THE PERSONAL PENSION ACADEMY NOW FOR ONLY $97 (ALL TAXES INCLUDED) http://personalpensionacademy.com/ In the previous two videos in this series, I went over a couple of useful ratios that you can use and likely calculate roughly off the top of your head … the Rule of 40 and the Rule of 72. These were simple calculations, but the results are quite profound. In one, it calculates how long it will take advisors, banks and the financial industry as a whole to eat up a third of your wealth. The other tells us how long it will take to double our money. A noble goal to say the least! In this tutorial, I tackle another useful video and one that guides my philosophy and methodology with my investing and the Personal Pension Academy. It is called the payback period and it is very common in the finance and business world. Quite simply, how long will it take me to recover my initial investment? Wouldn’t you agree that this is a useful number to have? In retirement planning in Canada, much of the focus centers around the market value of investments. There is very little guidance when it comes to investing in stuff that actually starts paying you back. I’m not talking about the day-to-day roller coaster ride of the stock market. I’m talking about cash flow … cold hard cash deposited into your account on a regular basis. Wouldn’t it be great if we could just take 2 easy to find numbers and figure out how long it will take to get our original investment back? Well, this is the formula that does it. Imagine this .. having investments in your Tax Free Savings Accounts (TFSA) or Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) and knowing exactly how long it will take to recoup the original money that you put in. If you have $50,000 in your TFSA or RRSP, you can actually invest it in such a way that you know exactly when you’ll have recovered the $50,000 in cash and dividend distributions. And remember, these distributions are not part of the actual capital … meaning you will still own the securities that generated the return in your TFSA or RRSP. Best of all, the companies that regularly pay out dividends are the same exact ones that actually grow in value over time .. do you know why? Quite simply. They make money. Stop investing your money in useless investments that only enrich the banks, financial and investment advisors and the financial industry. Start managing your own money. Money Course - Spending vs saving. Do we really know what saving is? (Tutorial 8 of 18) I don't think a week goes by where I don't hear someone say that they saved a lot of money when they bought something. Well, that may be true but did they really save any money? In todays disposable and spendthrift economy, do we even know what saving actually is? In this tutorial I show you the difference between saving, and simply not spending. Hopefully the next time you say you are saving money, you'll think twice after watching this video. We now begin to look at the investment side of equation. Many people make the mistake of leaving their finances in the hands of professional money managers and financial planners. Money Management & Investing - Think distributions & cash flow, not market value (Tutorial 12 of 18) From now on, we are going to look at investing from only one perspective. Distributions and cash flow. In this video tutorial I examine the differences between distribution and market value and what it means to your pocket book. Once you have seen this video, I'm hoping you will see that income investing is, by far, the most common sense way of investing your money.
