The Case for Environmental Education

02:23
When Adam Frederick taught high school biology he got his students into science by getting them out of the classroom -- out into the woods and fields and streams where they could see biology at work. Environmental science leads to better scores in science, according to Frederick, now a Marine Science Educator with Maryland Sea Grant Extension. And it's a teaching tool that can be used across all disciplines. Written, produced and directed by Michael W. Fincham, Maryland Sea Grant.

02:53
In March 2008 Andaman Discoveries and Mangrove Action Project (MAP) joined forces to provide a second environmental camp for the Youth Group of Ban Tale Nok, this time with more work and more science involved! Mrs Jaruwan Kaewmahanin of Mangrove Action Project (MAP) spent the weekend teaching the youths how to research and create a transect map. The camp carried out two types of transect mapping. The first was forest and community, which shows the overview of natural resources and describes the location and distribution of resources, the landscape and main land uses. The second was mangrove transect, which is specific on mangrove biodiversity.

Mama Earth - Trailer

01:59
Available from: http://www.videoproject.com/mam-979-d.html With humor and compassion, this film gives voice to our legendary Mother, who has been so graciously providing for life on earth. Now she is asking us for a little cosmetic surgery a restoration of her natural beauty and vitality. Employing concepts of sustainability, ecological economics, and natural capital, the film shows how conventional economics encourages exploitation of our natural resources, ignoring the value of critical goods and services like clean air and water, fertile soil, and other natural assets. We hear from economists who propose a new model that puts a hard currency value on the virgin resources, considered Natural Capital, being harvested from the earth, and impose a value on the burden of squandering these resources in the forms of waste, byproduct and pollution. Mama Earth dispels the myth that being eco-friendly is merely an altruistic endeavor. In the future, it will be the way businesses not only positively impact the environment, but their bottom line as well. Available from: http://www.videoproject.com

Water: Our Most Important Natural Resource

02:15
Part 2 of 3. A majority of Canadians consider water to be the nation's most important natural resource. This short video shows why water is important to Canadians' health, the natural environment and the national economy. The tragedy of Walkerton, nearly ten years old, is a painful reminder of the importance of water and still there are nearly 1,700 communities in Canada that have to boil their water. Canadians are becoming increasingly concerned about water and are looking for governments to act to protect their most important resource.
