Blasthole Drill Mining Training Simulator
The Joy Global Blasthole Drill Mining Training Simulator is available exclusively from Joy Global. Visit Joy Global for more details: http://www.phmining.com/en/PHMining/Training/ProMinerTrainingSimulators.htm This 3D simulator increases your bottom line by producing an extremely well-trained workforce with operators who quickly become experts at the controls of blasthole drills. This allows them to preform their jobs faster, safer, and more efficiently. http://forgefx.com/casestudies/surface-mining/blasthole-drill-simulator.htm Realistic virtual training simulators allow operators to learn the machines quickly and safely, as well as master the entire process from start to finish before they ever step foot into a real-world piece of machinery. Training simulators lead to less machine downtime, fewer accidents, and a more efficient and productive operation. The simulator features beginner and experienced modes, so that operators at different levels can benefit by using the training simulator to increase their skills. In addition, a tutorial mode is included for users that are new to virtual training simulators. Tutorials provide step-by-step instructions to operators on how to preform basic drill functions, such as how to raise the mast, how to drill a hole, and how to assemble the drill pipe string. Connected to a pair of real-world controllers, the simulator mirrors the real-world equipment, allowing the operator to learn everything from operating the breakout wrenches, to the pipe racks, to the bit-air system. The time-of-day feature allows operators to learn to use the drill in a variety of limited light conditions, while the local and remote propel modes allow operators to train to operate the drill from inside, or outside of the cab. At all times during the simulator session real-time performance data is being collected and tracked, everything from session time, to drill bit depth, to rotary RPM. The simulator allows operators to monitor themselves in real-time, and it also generates a performance report at the end of the session that provides greater insight into an operator's performance by listing everything from setup time, to number of regrinds and over-currents. By leveraging this data, operators can optimize their productivity within the simulator where they have the freedom to experiment with different techniques. The bottom line is that the Joy Global ProMiner Blasthole Drill Simulator, while emphasizing safety, is designed to maximize operator machine controls and operation familiarity, efficiency, and productivity.

How Raise Drill Works
Raise drilling is used to create large drill holes -- up to 7.6 meters in diameter. The holes, or tunnels, are used to connect mine shafts, power plant tunnels or channels for rainwater and surplus water, as well as for ventilation between different levels in a mine. This type of drilling is performed in two stages. First you drill a smaller pilot hole and then you swap the smaller drill bit with a reamer. The reamer is equipped with reels made of hardened metal which have the same diameter as the final hole. The hole is expanded as the reamer crushes the rock using both pressure and rotation. Raise drilling can be used for holes and tunnels of up to 1100 meters in length, which makes this method very practical for many applications. https://engineers-channel.blogspot.com/p/raise-drill.html

Let's Blast!
NOTE: Although this video shows an up-close look at the blasting process, NEVER go near an active surface mine or blast site without Federal training and permission. FYI, the white bags are Emulsified Ammonium Nitrate. The read cap is TNT and the silver rod that is connected to it by the yellow wire is the blasting cap, it's what ignites the shot. The white pebbles that are emptied into the blast holes by the powder trucks are the main explosive- "ANFO" or Ammonium Nitrate, which is a mixture of fertilizer and diesel fuel. Once the holes are filled with explosives, rock fines or "stemming" is pushed back in the holes and packed down to keep the explosives under pressure. After all the holes are loaded and rigged up, it's time for the fireworks! And remember kids, don't try this at home! Want to see more Blasting? Drilling: How to Minimize Variability
Mining is made up of a number of processes, and one of the first is drilling. It’s important to consider the impact that optimal drilling and blasting has on downstream mining activities like loading, hauling, crushing and milling. Inconsistent drill patterns, hole depth and hole angle can have a significant effect on the rest of the mining cycle. In this video, we’ll discuss how miners are using technologies like Cat MineStar™ Terrain to improve the accuracy of these activities — increasing drill productivity, efficiency and safety. Terrain for drilling provides high-precision guidance, work progress feedback, detailed site information and safety functions for the entire drill fleet. It lets you know what your drills are doing, how many holes are drilled each shift, and when and why a drill is down — all the information you need to drive operational improvements.

CYBERMINE Sandvik DR580 Drill Rig Simulator
Blast hole drill rigs are complex machines and vital cogs in open pit mining operations. CYBERMINE blast hole drill rig simulators accurately replicate aspects such as drill length and percussion and train operators to use the machine safely and productively. Safety and productivity on a mine site is of paramount importance and these training simulators are important tools in ensuring this is achieved. All this training is done without the mine having to take an actual rig out of production for too long as increased availability of the drill aids cost efficiencies. A drill rig from any OEM can be simulated, including Atlas Copco, Caterpillar, P&H and Sandvik.
