Importing Data into R - How to import csv and text files into R
In this video you will learn how to import your flat files into R. Want to take the interactive coding exercises and earn a certificate? Join DataCamp today, and start our intermediate R tutorial for free: https://www.datacamp.com/courses/importing-data-into-r In this first chapter, we'll start with flat files. They're typically simple text files that contain table data. Have a look at states.csv, a flat file containing comma-separated values. The data lists basic information on some US states. The first line here gives the names of the different columns or fields. After that, each line is a record, and the fields are separated by a comma, hence the name comma-separated values. For example, there's the state Hawaii with the capital Honolulu and a total population of 1.42 million. What would that data look like in R? Well, actually, the structure nicely corresponds to a data frame in R, that ideally looks like this: the rows in the data frame correspond to the records and the columns of the data frame correspond to the fields. The field names are used to name the data frame columns. But how to go from the CSV file to this data frame? The mother of all these data import functions is the read.table() function. It can read in any file in table format and create a data frame from it. The number of arguments you can specify for this function is huge, so I won't go through each and every one of these arguments. Instead, let's have a look at the read.table() call that imports states.csv and try to understand what happens. The first argument of the read.table() function is the path to the file you want to import into R. If the file is in your current working directory, simply passing the filename as a character string works. If your file is located somewhere else, things get tricky. Depending on the platform you're working on, Linux, Microsoft, Mac, whatever, file paths are specified differently. To build a path to a file in a platform-independent way, you can use the file.path() function. Now for the header argument. If you set this to TRUE, you tell R that the first row of the text file contains the variable names, which is the case here. read.table() sets this argument FALSE by default, which would mean that the first row is already an observation. Next, sep is the argument that specifies how fields in a record are separated. For our csv file here, the field separator is a comma, so we use a comma inside quotes. Finally, the stringsAsFactors argument is pretty important. It's TRUE by default, which means that columns, or variables, that are strings, are imported into R as factors, the data structure to store categorical variables. In this case, the column containing the country names shouldn't be a factor, so we set stringsAsFactors to FALSE. If we actually run this call now, we indeed get a data frame with 5 observations and 4 variables, that corresponds nicely to the CSV file we started with. The read table function works fine, but it's pretty tiring to specify all these arguments every time, right? CSV files are a common and standardized type of flat files. That's why the utils package also provides the read.csv function. This function is a wrapper around the read.table() function, so read.csv() calls read.table() behind the scenes, but with different default arguments to match with the CSV format. More specifically, the default for header is TRUE and for sep is a comma, so you don't have to manually specify these anymore. This means that this read.table() call from before is thus exactly the same as this read.csv() call. Apart from CSV files, there are also other types of flat files. Take this tab-delimited file, states.txt, with the same data: To import it with read.table(), you again have to specify a bunch of arguments. This time, you should point to the .txt file instead of the .csv file, and the sep argument should be set to a tab, so backslash t. You can also use the read.delim() function, which again is a wrapper around read.table; the default arguments for header and sep are adapted, among some others. The result of both calls is again a nice translation of the flat file to a an R data frame. Now, there's one last thing I want to discuss here. Have a look at this US csv file and its european counterpart, states_eu.csv. You'll notice that the Europeans use commas for decimal points, while normally one uses the dot. This means that they can't use the comma as the field-delimiter anymore, they need a semicolon. To deal with this easily, R provides the read.csv2() function. Both the sep argument as the dec argument, to tell which character is used for decimal points, are different. Likewise, for read.delim() you have a read.delim2() alternative. Can you spot the differences again? This time, only the dec argument had to change.

Coding With Python :: Learn API Basics to Grab Data with Python
Coding With Python :: Learn API Basics to Grab Data with Python This is a basic introduction to using APIs. APIs are the "glue" that keep a lot of web applications running and thriving. Without APIs much of the internet services you love might not even exist! APIs are easy way to connect with other websites & web services to use their data to make your site or application even better. This simple tutorial gives you the basics of how you can access this data and use it. If you want to know if a website has an api, just search "Facebook API" or "Twitter API" or "Foursquare API" on google. Some APIs are easy to use (like Locu's API which we use in this video) some are more complicated (Facebook's API is more complicated than Locu's). More about APIs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Api Code from the video: http://pastebin.com/tFeFvbXp If you want to learn more about using APIs with Django, learn at http://CodingForEntrepreneurs.com for just $25/month. We apply what we learn here into a Django web application in the GeoLocator project. The Try Django Tutorial Series is designed to help you get used to using Django in building a basic landing page (also known as splash page or MVP landing page) so you can collect data from potential users. Collecting this data will prove as verification (or validation) that your project is worth building. Furthermore, we also show you how to implement a Paypal Button so you can also accept payments. Django is awesome and very simple to get started. Step-by-step tutorials are to help you understand the workflow, get you started doing something real, then it is our goal to have you asking questions... "Why did I do X?" or "How would I do Y?" These are questions you wouldn't know to ask otherwise. Questions, after all, lead to answers. CSE2/CSE5ALG– Algorithms and Data Structures – 2017 Assignment Part 1
SOLUTION LINK: http://libraay.com/downloads/cse2cse5alg-algorithms-and-data-structures-2017-assignment-part-1/ Mining information from sales data is a common task in both traditional and online stores. Past sales information can guide purchasing and enable the company to make recommendations to customers about what they may like to buy. The aim of the assignment is to perform two data mining tasks. First, it determines the ranking of products according to how many of each product has been sold. Second, it also determines the five other products most commonly bought with each product. Performing these tasks on large data sets is computationally expensive and the use of data structures and algorithms that facilitate fast searching and sorting is desirable. The assignment is divided into two parts. For part 1, you are required to write a simple version, where execution efficiency is not taken into account. For part 2, you ar e required to write an “optimized” version where efficiency, in addition to correctness, is the major concern. Requirements Write a Java program called SalesInfoMiner that reads in a file of products, stored in text format 2 lines per entry . The program must then read in information about past sales transactions and output all the products to a new file, sorted by product description, along with their sales rank and the five other products with which they were most commonly purchased. The program accepts four command line arguments and must not expect any user interaction from the keyboard. The first parameter to the program is the name of the produc t list to read in; the second parameter is the file containing information about past transactions. The third parameter is the name of the file to which the ordered product list will be written, and the fou rth parameter is the name of the file to which any error or warning messages will be output. That is, the program will be run with the following command: java SalesInfoMiner products transactions output-file If an incorrect number of arguments is supplied, then the program must output an error message explaining the arguments required before terminating. For Part 1, you can assume that both input files are in correct format. Product File This file contains data for one or more products • Each product occupies two lines • Line 1 contains the product id, which is a string of 13 digits • Product IDs are unique • Line 2 is the description of the product, which is not an empty stringThus, the data for a product has the format shown below: ProductID A thirteen digit string Product Description A text string For example: 1234567890123 Milk - full cream 600ml 9832983102938 Bread - wholemeal loaf 1299128391283 Eggs, Extra Large, Barn laid Sales Transaction File This file contains data for one or more sale transactions • Each sale transaction has 2 + n lines, where n is the number of items in this sale transaction as specified on line 2 of the sale transaction • Line 1 has the format Receipt number: receipt number where receipt number is a positive integer • Receipt numbers are unique • Line 2 has the format Number of items: number of items where number of items is a positive integer • Each sale item occupies a line, which contains the product id of the item • All product IDs in a sale transaction are distinct and must exist in the product file

Analyzing Big Data with Microsoft R Server | Microsoft on edX | Course About Video
Learn how to use Microsoft R Server to analyze large datasets using R, one of the most powerful programming languages. Take this course free on edX: https://www.edx.org/course/analyzing-big-data-microsoft-r-server-microsoft-dat213x#! ABOUT THIS COURSE The open-source programming language R has for a long time been popular (particularly in academia) for data processing and statistical analysis. Among R's strengths are that it's a succinct programming language and has an extensive repository of third party libraries for performing all kinds of analyses. Together, these two features make it possible for a data scientist to very quickly go from raw data to summaries, charts, and even full-blown reports. However, one deficiency with R is that traditionally it uses a lot of memory, both because it needs to load a copy of the data in its entirety as a data.frame object, and also because processing the data often involves making further copies (sometimes referred to as copy-on-modify). This is one of the reasons R has been more reluctantly received by industry compared to academia. The main component of Microsoft R Server (MRS) is the RevoScaleR package, which is an R library that offers a set of functionalities for processing large datasets without having to load them all at once in the memory. RevoScaleR offers a rich set of distributed statistical and machine learning algorithms, which get added to over time. Finally, RevoScaleR also offers a mechanism by which we can take code that we developed on our laptop and deploy it on a remote server such as SQL Server or Spark (where the infrastructure is very different under the hood), with minimal effort. In this course, we will show you how to use MRS to run an analysis on a large dataset and provide some examples of how to deploy it on a Spark cluster or a SQL Server database. Upon completion, you will know how to use R for big-data problems. Since RevoScaleR is an R package, we assume that the course participants are familiar with R. A solid understanding of R data structures (vectors, matrices, lists, data frames, environments) is required. For example, students should be able to confidently tell the difference between a list and a data frame, or what each object is generally a good representation for and how to subset it. Students should be familiar with basic programming concepts such as control flows, loops, functions and scope. Students should have a good understanding of how to write and debug R functions. Finally, students are expected to have a good understanding of data manipulation and data processing in R (e.g. functions such as merge, transform, subset, cbind, rbind, lapply, apply). Familiarity with 3rd party packages such as dplyr is also helpful. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN You will learn how to use MRS to read, process, and analyze large datasets including: Read data from flat files into R’s data frame object, investigate the structure of the dataset and make corrections, and store prepared datasets for later use Prepare and transform the data Calculate essential summary statistics, do crosstabulation, write your own summary functions, and visualize data with the ggplot2 package Build predictive models, evaluate and compare models, and generate predictions on new data

Simple C# Console Program for Streaming Tweets Matching Your Keywords
Short video showing a simple C# console application that I wrote to connect to the Twitter Streaming API. This application allows you to supply a list of keywords for tracking, and using the existing TweetInvi library we receive tweet data for tweets that contain our keywords. This is meant to be a simple example, documentation for other API functions can be found on the TweetInvi github page (I am not a contributor to the TweetInvi library, this video simply uses function already written by the TweetInvi development team and I take no credit). The source code for the application in the video is available in my GitHub repository, additional video links can be found below! Larry Klayman Interviewed On His Win Against The NSA
Larry Klayman Interviewed On His Win Against The NSA Alex Jones Interviews Larry Klayman on his win in court against the NSA Judge: NSA domestic phone data-mining unconstitutional A federal judge said Monday that he believes the government's once-secret collection of domestic phone records is unconstitutional, setting up likely appeals and further challenges to the data mining revealed by classified leaker Edward Snowden. U.S. District Judge Richard Leon said the National Security Agency's bulk collection of metadata -- phone records of the time and numbers called without any disclosure of content -- apparently violates privacy rights. His preliminary ruling favored five plaintiffs challenging the practice, but Leon limited the decision only to their cases. "I cannot imagine a more 'indiscriminate' and 'arbitrary invasion' than this systematic and high-tech collection and retention of personal data on virtually every citizen for purposes of querying and analyzing it without prior judicial approval," said Leon, an appointee of President George W. Bush. "Surely, such a program infringes on 'that degree of privacy' that the Founders enshrined in the Fourth Amendment." A little about myself, I owned and bankrupted a company that generated 4.7 million in sales in 10 months. 80% of my leads came from Craigslist and as you know with Craigslist comes flagging/ghosting/admin deletes. I've tried HMA and other VPNs, but it still wasnt working. I've used CL bot pro with success, along with Clad Genius. After a while, I had a developer build out a whole new system which has worked really well for me. I've tinkered with it all, read countless blogs, posts, and videos. Anyone serious at least does this once, where they google the heck out of Craigslist. Hundreds of hours and 211 redbulls later, I've come up with a few things that really help me with Craigslist.
