Exploring One Of The Biggest Abandoned Mines In Nevada: Part 1
Consistent with its status as one of the biggest abandoned mines in Nevada, it requires a hike of thousands of feet and a significant elevation decline just to get down to where the underground workings really begin at this massive mine… As can be seen near the start of this video, there are twin portals and passages running parallel down to the underground workings. Our guess was that this was because one passage was for traffic entering the mine and the other for traffic departing the mine. Deep underneath the mountain, the passages converge on a main hub from which drifts branch out in all directions. At the heart of this hub is a breakroom and a large workshop. A large drift takes off to the right from the workshop, while to the left a drift meanders away and another passage descends deeper into the bowels of the mountain. In this first video, we explore the hub of the mine as well as the workings taking off to the left from the hub. Following the descending passage, we were eventually blocked by flooding as the mine workings continue deep beneath the water level inside of the mine. One can only imagine how many miles of workings are under those dark waters. Fortunately, the other main drift taking off to the left was on a slight upward incline and so the water drained down and (mostly) out. With the miles of underground workings at this abandoned mine stretching well into the double digits, one might expect there to be quite a lot of information available on this site. However, that is not the case. There is surprisingly little information to be found online and the various government agencies involved with this site have done a pretty thorough job of scrubbing references to it from their public databases. ***** All of these videos are uploaded in HD, so adjust those settings to ramp up the quality! It really does make a difference… You can click here for the full playlist of abandoned mines: https://goo.gl/TEKq9L If you like these videos on exploring abandoned mines, please subscribe! https://goo.gl/yjPxH1 Thanks for watching! ***** Growing up in California’s “Gold Rush Country” made it easy to take all of the history around us for granted. However, abandoned mine sites have a lot working against them – nature, vandals, scrappers and various government agencies… The old prospectors and miners that used to roam our lonely mountains and toil away deep underground are disappearing quickly as well. These losses finally caught our attention and we felt compelled to make an effort to document as many of the ghost towns and abandoned mines that we could before that niche of our history is gone forever. But, guess what? We have fun doing it! This is exploring history firsthand – bushwhacking down steep canyons and over rough mountains, figuring out the techniques the miners used and the equipment they worked with, seeing the innovations they came up with, discovering lost mines that no one has been in for a hundred years, wandering through ghost towns where the only sound is the wind... These journeys allow a feeling of connection to a time when the world was a very different place. And I’d love to think that in some small way we are paying tribute to those hardy miners that worked these mines before we were even born. So, yes, in short, we are adit addicts… I hope you’ll join us on these adventures! #ExploringAbandonedMines #MineExploring #AbandonedMines #UndergroundMineExploring

Virginia City is a census-designated place (CDP) that is the county seat of Storey County, Nevada. It is part of the Reno–Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area. Virginia City sprang up as a boomtown with the 1859 discovery of the Comstock Lode, the first major silver deposit discovery in the United States, with numerous mines opening. At the city's peak of population in the mid-1870s, it had an estimated 25,000 residents. The mines' output declined after 1878, and the city itself declined as a result. As of the 2010 Census the population of Virginia City was about 855, and that of Storey County 4,000.

Virginia City, Nevada
Recorded June 19, 1999. Virginia City is one of the oldest established cities in Nevada. Like many cities and towns in the state, Virginia City was a mining boomtown; in fact it is one of the most famous boomtowns in the Old West as it virtually appeared overnight as a result of the Comstock Lode silver strike of 1859. During its peak, Virginia City had a population of nearly 30,000 residents. When the Comstock Lode ended in 1898, the city's population declined sharply. The population of Virginia City is 1,000 people in the town. Virginia City was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1961. This in effect created a Virginia City Historic District. Today, Virginia City is but a shadow of its former glory, however, it still draws over 2 million visitors per year. It is one of the nation's larger National Historic Landmarks and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Keeping with tradition, Virginia City does not have any chain stores or fast food restaurants. This video covers my short visit to the town in June 1999. From: http://timvp.com

Comstock Trail Part 16 "Sutros Death Pit"
Our final area of the second investigation would take place at the Sutro ventilation shaft. At one time the Sutro Tunnel ventilated this deep tunnel this one being 1 of 4 of them. The tunnel was originally designed to relieve flooding as miners dug deep into the earth in search of mineral bearing quartz. Sadly when they drilled into hot water and steam it would cause injury, death and flooding. Some miners drowned in some of the mines or suffocated due to fires it was a deadly job. Just below this pit good men died some were never even found again. The tunnel below this pit acted like a subway that connected Virginia City to the town of Sutro/Dayton going underground approximately 4 miles. It was used to transport goods and people between both mining towns. I crossed the fence for our viewers to throw a stone down the shaft you can hear it fall as the sound fades as it falls into the shafts depths.

Comstock Trail Part 5 "Sugar Loaf Country"
Off in the distance is Sugar Loaf Mountain which an overgrown narrow curvy road runs around this monolithic site. From Virginia City one can see the mountain but from the Comstock Trail you can stand above it. Sugar loaf country is where Six-Mile Canyon cuts directly below. The mines found in this canyon were some of the biggest money makers in the lode and which prevented Utah for taking this territory for themselves as a state.

Stillwater Nevada - The Cursed & The Deplorable
A Pony Express and Overland Stage Station was built in 1860 and by 1862 J.J. Cushman decided to build a large ranch which led to nearly 3,000 acres of alfalfa being harvested. Soon other ranchers and farmers came to the area thus the town begin to build up until 1868 Stillwater obtained the county seat. Many of the farmers dug irrigation ditches and canals to divert the water from the Stillwater Marsh to their farms which led to the ancient Cattail Eater Tribe being forced off their lands and also taking away their water rights in an region of Nevada that the oldest mummy in North America was found thus some including myself feel the land in Stillwater is cursed. The town had a post office, blacksmith shop, school, stores, saloons, hotel, pool, theater, hay yard, ice house, restaurants, courthouse and multiple ranches. Over the years grasshoppers, drought, floods, extreme winters and epidemics struck this little community today leaving behind many abandoned pioneer ranches which are left to the elements and the ghost that haunt them. Not much remains of Old Stillwater but I will take you on a journey to explore some abandoned farms, a historic cemetery in Stillwater, outbuildings, homesteads and remnants of downtown which once as a bustling little community. The pioneers named this place Stillwater when stagnant water surrounded the station and since the 1860's the name kind of stuck. Today Fallon one of Nevada's largest cities has kind of consumed Stillwater but if you look hard enough you will still find remnants of one of Nevada's oldest ranching towns which supplied the miners of the Comstock Lode with food for the miners in Virginia City Nevada. During the beginning of the exploration your going to get to hear some creepy music playing on an abandoned ranch with that being said Stillwater is a creepy ranching town in the middle of no mans land. I apologize that this film is not the greatest my cam had some major issues apparently getting sand inside the lens so I was having a hard time with the zoom, focus and was kind of messing with it while filming this. http://paranormalghostsociety.org/StillwaterNevada.htm Mermaid by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100671 Artist: http://incompetech.com/

The Ghost of Poor Old Eilley
This song is a story about a woman named Eilley Bowers. She was a strong pioneer woman who made a fortune with her husband from the Comstock Lode. She gave birth to, and lost 2 children, within months of being born. Eilley and her husband had a mansion built, which was one of the most expensive buildings built in Western America at the time. They toured Europe, looking for furniture for their mansion, and came back with a child. Her husband died of Lung Cancer, and was buried behind their mansion. Their new child died of a ruptured appendix, and was buried alongside her father. Eilley tried to make the mansion work as a resort, but 8 years after the death of her husband, she lost it to the founder of Reno, Nevada. She became a seer, and told fortunes. She moved to San Francisco and continued that career. She eventually lost her hearing, and came back to Nevada, where she was placed in a poorhouse. California eventually said that they would take care of her, so she was put in a train to California with $30. She died a few years later in California, and her ashes were sent back to Nevada, where they were put to rest next to her husband, behind their mansion. The ghost of Eilley Bowers supposedly haunts their mansion today, as people have reported her presence in many different ways.

America’s Immigrant Future | Catherine Cortez Masto | TEDxUniversityofNevada
United States Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) participated in a TedX interview with Dr. Bret Simmons of the University of Nevada, Reno. The Senator discussed the vicious cycle of exclusion that has historically gripped America as it’s struggled with the issue of immigration. In this deeply personal conversation, Senator Cortez Masto discusses her historic role as the first Latina elected to the United States Senate, and the first woman from the State of Nevada. As the granddaughter and great-granddaughter of immigrants, Senator Cortez Masto shares her unique insight as she asks the question: are we doing all we can to hold open the door for the next generation once we succeed? Born and raised in Las Vegas, Catherine Cortez Masto has spent her career fighting for Nevada’s working families. She served two terms as Attorney General of Nevada and, in November 2016, became the first Latina and the first woman from Nevada ever elected to the United States Senate. Cortez Masto is working to repair our broken immigration system and protect hardworking families. She is a co-sponsor of the DREAM Act of 2017, which would allow hard-working young people to come out of the shadows and fulfill their potential in our communities, and a fervent supporter of comprehensive immigration reform. Cortez Masto earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Finance from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1986, and a J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1990. She currently resides in Las Vegas with her husband Paul. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Virginia and Truckee Railway excursion train returns to Virginia City w/ friendly crew and tourists
Because me and my family were visiting Virginia City, Nevada, I decided to catch the Virginia and Truckee Railway because I was so close to the action and I got lucky when a schedule said it would return to Virginia City ten minutes after I got there. Leading the excursion train today with a friendly crew on board and also with friendly tourists behind on a warm July afternoon is V&T #29 labeled Robert C. Gray which is a Baldwin Built 2-8-0 built in 1916 and once served the Longview Portland & Northern. The railroad was built in 1869 fourteen years after the Gold Rush ended and had carried people in and out of the Comstock mines along with carrying millions of dollars worth of gold and silver from the mines to the towns. The line once ran all the way to Carson City along the Carson River and had even connected with the Central Pacific to the outside world. While the mine was thriving until the line was pulled back from Virginia City in 1940 and the rest of the line was abandoned in 1950. The railroad was later modernize in the 1970’s with a plan to rebuild the railroad from Virginia City to Carson City. With slow progress, the line was completed in 1976 only reaching as far as Tunnel 4. In 1980 Tunnel 4 was open and by 1991 the line was extended to Gold Run with the intention of recreating the entire line into Carson City. By 2006 two more miles of track were constructed and in 2009, the V&T line had reached the current end of the line at East Gate. The new V&T line still follows the original one but not in several places due to developments in and around the surrounding area. The other portion of the V&T’s line is still in Carson City at the Nevada State Railroad Museum but has no connection to the current line today. If anyone knows more about the current V&T line or it’s whereabouts, leave a comment.

Walker River Resources Corp (CVE:WRR) CEO on High-Grade Gold Potential of Lapon Canyon Project
Walker River Resources Corp (CVE:WRR) (OTCMKTS:WRRZF) (FRA:1WV) is a junior mining company bringing high-grade, low-cost mining opportunities into production. CEO Michel David describes Nevada’s mining potential as a leading gold territory and shares details of the company’s flagship site, the Lapon Canyon Project. The Lapon site features good infrastructure, as well as the potential for high-grade gold mineralization. David notes Walker has earned positive drill results each of the last three years that proved the company’s geological model and showed extensive mineralization. With a $15 million market cap, David feels the company is undervalued. Walker River Resources recently issued warrants, raising $1 million, to fund additional drilling operations. ************************ Check out our website: https://midasletter.com ************************ SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube: http://bit.ly/MidasLetterYoutube SUBSCRIBE to our 2nd YouTube Channel - Midas Letter Clips: https://bit.ly/2rtQzgy SUBSCRIBE to our Newsletter: http://bit.ly/MidasLetterNewsletter Download Our Podcast on iTunes: http://bit.ly/MidasLetterPodcast ************************ Follow Us on Twitter: http://bit.ly/MidasLetterTwitter Like Us on Instagram: http://bit.ly/MidasLetterInsta Like Us on Facebook: http://bit.ly/MidasLetterFacebook ************************ #WeedStocks #MidasLetter

The Great Gildersleeve: Gildy the Executive / Substitute Secretary / Gildy Tries to Fire Bessie
Aiding and abetting the periodically frantic life in the Gildersleeve home was family cook and housekeeper Birdie Lee Coggins (Lillian Randolph). Although in the first season, under writer Levinson, Birdie was often portrayed as saliently less than bright, she slowly developed as the real brains and caretaker of the household under writers John Whedon, Sam Moore and Andy White. In many of the later episodes Gildersleeve has to acknowledge Birdie's commonsense approach to some of his predicaments. By the early 1950s, Birdie was heavily depended on by the rest of the family in fulfilling many of the functions of the household matriarch, whether it be giving sound advice to an adolescent Leroy or tending Marjorie's children. By the late 1940s, Marjorie slowly matures to a young woman of marrying age. During the 9th season (September 1949-June 1950) Marjorie meets and marries (May 10) Walter "Bronco" Thompson (Richard Crenna), star football player at the local college. The event was popular enough that Look devoted five pages in its May 23, 1950 issue to the wedding. After living in the same household for a few years with their twin babies Ronnie and Linda, the newlyweds move next door to keep the expanding Gildersleeve clan close together. Leroy, aged 10--11 during most of the 1940s, is the all-American boy who grudgingly practices his piano lessons, gets bad report cards, fights with his friends and cannot remember to not slam the door. Although he is loyal to his Uncle Mort, he is always the first to deflate his ego with a well-placed "Ha!!!" or "What a character!" Beginning in the Spring of 1949, he finds himself in junior high and is at last allowed to grow up, establishing relationships with the girls in the Bullard home across the street. From an awkward adolescent who hangs his head, kicks the ground and giggles whenever Brenda Knickerbocker comes near, he transforms himself overnight (November 28, 1951) into a more mature young man when Babs Winthrop (both girls played by Barbara Whiting) approaches him about studying together. From then on, he branches out with interests in driving, playing the drums and dreaming of a musical career. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Gildersleeve

Calling All Cars: Don't Get Chummy with a Watchman / A Cup of Coffee / Moving Picture Murder
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is the police department of the city of Los Angeles, California. The LAPD has been copiously fictionalized in numerous movies, novels and television shows throughout its history. The department has also been associated with a number of controversies, mainly concerned with racial animosity, police brutality and police corruption. radio show Calling All Cars hired LAPD radio dispacher Jesse Rosenquist to be the voice of the dispatcher. Rosenquist was already famous because home radios could tune into early police radio frequencies. As the first police radio dispatcher presented to the public ear, his was the voice that actors went to when called upon for a radio dispatcher role. The iconic television series Dragnet, with LAPD Detective Joe Friday as the primary character, was the first major media representation of the department. Real LAPD operations inspired Jack Webb to create the series and close cooperation with department officers let him make it as realistic as possible, including authentic police equipment and sound recording on-site at the police station. Due to Dragnet's popularity, LAPD Chief Parker "became, after J. Edgar Hoover, the most well known and respected law enforcement official in the nation". In the 1960s, when the LAPD under Chief Thomas Reddin expanded its community relations division and began efforts to reach out to the African-American community, Dragnet followed suit with more emphasis on internal affairs and community policing than solving crimes, the show's previous mainstay. Several prominent representations of the LAPD and its officers in television and film include Adam-12, Blue Streak, Blue Thunder, Boomtown, The Closer, Colors, Crash, Columbo, Dark Blue, Die Hard, End of Watch, Heat, Hollywood Homicide, Hunter, Internal Affairs, Jackie Brown, L.A. Confidential, Lakeview Terrace, Law & Order: Los Angeles, Life, Numb3rs, The Shield, Southland, Speed, Street Kings, SWAT, Training Day and the Lethal Weapon, Rush Hour and Terminator film series. The LAPD is also featured in the video games Midnight Club II, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, L.A. Noire and Call of Juarez: The Cartel. The LAPD has also been the subject of numerous novels. Elizabeth Linington used the department as her backdrop in three different series written under three different names, perhaps the most popular being those novel featuring Det. Lt. Luis Mendoza, who was introduced in the Edgar-nominated Case Pending. Joseph Wambaugh, the son of a Pittsburgh policeman, spent fourteen years in the department, using his background to write novels with authentic fictional depictions of life in the LAPD. Wambaugh also created the Emmy-winning TV anthology series Police Story. Wambaugh was also a major influence on James Ellroy, who wrote several novels about the Department set during the 1940s and 1950s, the most famous of which are probably The Black Dahlia, fictionalizing the LAPD's most famous "cold case", and L.A. Confidential, which was made into a film of the same name. Both the novel and the film chronicled mass-murder and corruption inside and outside the force during the Parker era. Critic Roger Ebert indicates that the film's characters (from the 1950s) "represent the choices ahead for the LAPD": assisting Hollywood limelight, aggressive policing with relaxed ethics, and a "straight arrow" approach. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAPD
