How to green the world's deserts and reverse climate change | Allan Savory

22:20
"Desertification is a fancy word for land that is turning to desert," begins Allan Savory in this quietly powerful talk. And terrifyingly, it's happening to about two-thirds of the world's grasslands, accelerating climate change and causing traditional grazing societies to descend into social chaos. Savory has devoted his life to stopping it. He now believes -- and his work so far shows -- that a surprising factor can protect grasslands and even reclaim degraded land that was once desert. ARK Survival Evolved Gameplay ➤ "Metal Mining Using The Ankylosaurus" [S2E12] #48

20:10
Ark Survival Evolved Gameplay! Ark: Survival Evolved - today we continue on with the taming of our first spino as well as take out the Ankylosaurus to do some metal mining on the mountain! In ARK you Hunt, harvest and gather resources, craft items, grow crops and farm, research tech, build bases, and withstand the elements and dinosaurs! Play locally, team up with hundreds of players, survive, fight, and live! Stay tuned for more Ark Survival multiplayer gameplay, co-op, pvp, building, and much more! ■ Buy Cheap Games on G2A.com: https://www.g2a.com/r/entak ■ Support the channel @ https://www.patreon.com/entak ■ Subscribe: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=SihteGaming ■ ARK PLAYLIST: http://bit.ly/1Q9JYAi In ARK, the Ankylosaurus or Ankylo, is very goot at gathering stone, metal, and flint. After using it a lot we have determined there are more efficient ways of gathering metal such as by hand and using a bird or mammoth for transport. The ankylo is very good for defense if it has a ton of HP as it has very thick armor. As a man or woman stranded naked, freezing and starving on the shores of a mysterious island called ARK, you must hunt, harvest resources, craft items, grow crops, research technologies, and build shelters to withstand the elements. Use your cunning and resources to kill or tame the leviathan dinosaurs and other primeval creatures roaming the land, and team up with or prey on hundreds of other players to survive, dominate... and escape! Dinos can be tamed using a challenging capture-&-affinity process, involving weakening a feral creature to knock it unconscious, and then nursing it back to health with appropriate food. Once tamed, you can issue commands to your Pet, which it may follow depending on how well you’ve tamed and trained it. Pets, which can continue to level-up and consume food, can also carry Inventory and Equipment such as Armor, carry prey back to your settlement depending on their strength, and larger pets can be ridden and directly controlled! You must eat and drink to survive, with different kinds of plants & meat having different nutritional properties, including human meat. Ensuring a supply of fresh water to your home and inventory is a pressing concern. All physical actions come at a cost of food and water, long-distance travel is fraught with subsistence peril! Inventory weight makes you move slower, and the day/night cycle along with randomized weather patterns add another layer of challenge by altering the temperature of the environment, causing you to hunger or thirst more quickly. Build a fire or shelter, and craft a large variety of customizable clothing & armors, to help protect yourself against locational damage & extreme temperatures using the dynamic indoor/outdoor insulation calculation system! By chopping down forests full of trees and mining metal and other precious resources, you can craft the parts to build massive multi-leveled structures composed of complex snap-linked parts, including ramps, beams, pillars, windows, doors, gates, remote gates, trapdoors, water pipes, faucets, generators, wires and all manner of electrical devices, and ladders among many other types. By bringing sufficient rare sacrificial items to special Summon locations, you can capture the attention of the one of the ARK’s god-like mythical creatures, who will arrive for battle. These gargantuan monstrosities provide an end-game goal for the most experienced groups of players and their armies of pets, and will yield extremely valuable progression items if they are defeated. Create a Tribe and add your friends to it, and all your Pets can be commanded by and allied to anyone in your Tribe. Your Tribe will also be able to respawn at any of your home spawn points. Promote members to Tribe Admins to reduce the burden of management. Distribute key items and pass-codes to provide access your shared village! The mysterious ARK is a formidable and imposing environment, composed of many natural and unnatural structures, above-ground, below-ground, and underwater. By fully exploring its secrets, you’ll find the most exotic procedurally randomized creatures and rare blueprints. ARK is amazing and I highly recommend it. ========================================== Remember to LIKE and FOLLOW me on my social media websites: ■ Twitch: http://twitch.tv/entak ■ Twitter: https://twitter.com/Sihtegaming ■ Facebook: http://facebook.com/TheSihteGaming ========================================== Gaming Hardware: i7-3770K OC @ 4.2GHz MSI Twin Frozr GTX 980 16GB GSkill RAM Thermaltake 850w PSU

Contamination - Four Corners

46:53
Posted Mon 9 Oct 2017, 9:22pm Contamination: The unfolding scandal of toxic water in Australian communities. “You've been giving your children water that's contaminated with chemicals…. so you're just trying to get your head around what does that mean?” Katherine resident It’s one of the biggest environmental scandals in Australian history. Harmful chemicals, leaching into the ground and waterways, contaminating the water relied upon for drinking. “They became more and more certain…It was also in the food chain, and it was also a risk to human health. Their own report by their own expert made that clear, that there was a risk to human health.” Investigator These chemicals are the toxic legacy of fire-fighting foam, used for decades on Defence Force bases and other sites around Australia. “They told us…this is the new asbestos. Those words exactly. That was them, giving a determination on how bad these foams were and that we had to pay attention to what they were telling us.” Oakey resident Communities, living in the shadow of three key defence bases, have been trapped in a kind of no-man’s land for the past three years after it was revealed these chemicals, known as PFAS, had seeped out of the bases and contaminated the surrounding areas. “The Department of Defence was careless in their use of this product on the base. They recklessly used it and they should've been taking more care.” Lawyer On Monday, Four Corners investigates the gross failures by the Defence Department that led to this chemical contamination. “I was horrified that this chemical was in such widespread use across Defence, and that we didn't have in place the appropriate measures to manage the potential risks, both to our people and to the environment.” Former Defence Manager Reporter Linton Besser uncovers the troubling history of the use of these chemicals and reveals just how long the public was kept in the dark. “They wanted to keep the matter under wraps, so to speak. They didn't want to go public on the issue.” Investigator The impact on those affected is profound. Some rely on water supplies trucked in by Defence contractors. Others are trapped financially, unable to sell, with their homes officially designated as a contamination zone. All worry about the implications of exposure to these chemicals. “It's petrifying as a parent. I don't think any parent in Australia would want to be told that, their youngest daughter, who's only four, has got those levels in their blood.” Oakey resident Four Corners has discovered that the scale of the problem is continuing to grow as more and more sites around the nation are being tested for contamination. “It's going to take a very long time to work through all of the issues that are associated with that. It could cost billions of dollars to try and solve this problem.” Former Defence Manager Contamination, reported by Linton Besser and presented by Sarah Ferguson, goes to air on Monday 9th October at 8.30pm.

Richard Wagamese - Indian Horse

57:11
Presented by the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre. In this emotional tale of Saul Indian Horse, Richard Wagamese tells the realistic story of a man whose life is drastically changed by one of Canada's most painful histories. When Saul was a child he was taken away from his family and forced into an Indian Residential School where he witnessed and experienced unimaginable abuses at the hands of the school's educators. In spite of the harrowing atrocities, it is at the school that Saul discovers his love of hockey, a game that, for a short time, serves as a means of escape. Saul's talent leads to a draft with a minor league team and a spot on Team Canada during the 1972 Canada-Soviet Summit Series. However, as Saul grows into a man, he struggles with racism and alcohol addiction. Saul's tumultuous adulthood eventually leads him back to his roots, where he confronts his past and begins a new journey towards healing. Richard Wagamese is an Ojibway author from the Wabaseemoong First Nation in Northwestern Ontario. He is the author of several fiction and non-fiction works including For Joshua: An Ojibway Father Teaches His Son, Runaway Dreams, and Indian Horse. Wagamese has also been a journalist and, in 1991, became the first Aboriginal Canadian to receive the National Newspaper Award for Column Writing. His most recent novel, Indian Horse, was chosen as the winner of First Nation Communities Read, and is on the Globe and Mail's bestseller's list as well as the Canadian Booksellers Association's bestseller's list. Among his awards, Wagamese's memoir One Native Life was listed as one of The Globe and Mail's 100 Best Books of 2008. In 2010 he accepted an Honorary Doctor of Letters from Thompson Rivers University. Wagamese currently lives just outside of Kamloops, BC with his wife, Debra Powell, and Molly the Story Dog.
JSGS Public Lecture~Saskatchewan First Nations and the Province's Resource Future

01:32:00
Presented by Chief Bellegarde, Chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Saskatchewan is in the middle of an unprecedented resource boom. With oil and gas in the south, potash in central Saskatchewan and uranium in the North, along with promising mineral plays in various locations,Saskatchewan's economy is growing rapidly. First Nations are determined to benefit from the boom, as Treaty Peoples with strong ties to the land and with promises from government that we will benefit from development. With duty to consult and accommodate requirements in place, Saskatchewan First Nations have become national leaders in working out appropriate collaboration and impact and benefit agreements with companies and governments. Much more can be done. More First Nations can be employed on the resource projects. Greater care can be taken to protect our traditional lands and protect our people from harm. There are important business opportunities for First Nations companies that remain to be developed. First Nations will not stand in the way of properly managed development that is based on consultations and agreements with our communities, but nor will First Nations agree to open-ended development strategies that do not return a fair share of the benefits from resource development with the Saskatchewan First Nations.

Mineral Rights in Eminent Domain - Biersdorf & Associates

01:49
We discussed in a previous blog post how contamination can play a role in the determination of just compensation. Another issue that doesn’t frequently arise, but is prevalent enough to warrant discussing in our blog is how the presence of mineral rights on a property will affect the amount of just compensation owed to a property owner. The minerals present can range from sand or gravel to oil or gas. Under the rules of eminent domain law, if a property owner has mineral rights on their property, those rights must be considered when determining just compensation. When determining the amount of just compensation owed to a property owner in this situation, the classic before and after valuation should be used. In the before and after scenario, an appraiser will determine the value of the property with all of the mineral rights in place prior to the taking. They would then determine the value of the remaining property with any impairment in mineral rights as a result of the taking. We have typically found that the condemning authority tries to ignore the impact that their taking has on the loss of mineral rights, and therefore, we frequently find that a property owner is justified in pursuing a claim for additional just compensation under the rules of eminent domain law. I call this scenario to your attention so that if you are faced with this situation and the condemning authority tells you that mineral rights and loss of mineral rights is not a factor to be considered in the calculation of just compensation you will know that that statement by the condemning authorities is not true. http://www.condemnation-law.com/articles/mineral-rights-in-eminent-domain-cases/

PRACTICE: Outside In | Inside Out

03:33:37
This symposium considers discourse on contemporary issues of design practice in two parts: the external pressures of economic, environmental, and political systems, and internal forces of tools, techniques, and strategies for design. Addressing the multifaceted nature of the profession, we will explore themes for the design of practice, such as work and labor, tools and technology, and ethics and agency. The symposium highlights potential avenues for the growth and constitution of practice, as well as the issues currently at stake within the profession. The following discussions confront pressing questions regarding the shifting responsibilities of design practice, and the future of practice itself. This symposium is generously sponsored by the Carl M. Sapers Ethics in Practice Fund, and co-hosted by the GSD Practice Platform and the Department of Architecture. Panelists: Aaron Cayer, Neena Verma, Jesse Keenan, Alison Brooks, Eduard Sancho Pou, Sawako Kaijima, Randy Deutsch, Robert Pietrusko Moderators: Mark Lee, Grace La

Resilience and Regeneration after Wildfire in Dry Mixed Conifer Forests of the US N

42:16
Over the past several decades, increases in area burned in the western U.S. have caused considerable concern about forest resilience following large wildfires. This concern is especially pronounced in dry mixed-conifer forests, where the combined effects of 20th century land management and land use have altered species composition, fuel loads, and fire regimes. Kerry Kemp, Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Idaho, will present her research on the patterns of post-fire regeneration of tree species across gradients in elevation, latitude, aspect, and burn severity in dry-mixed conifer forests of the US Northern Rockies burned 5 to 13 years prior. Kemp's research investigated specifically, how different landscape characteristics (e.g., topography, elevation) interacted with legacies of the fire environment (e.g., burn severity, patch size, canopy cover) to influence where trees regenerate following large, mixed-severity fires.

Understanding the Definition and Scope of the Duty to Consult and Accommodate Today and How It Impacts You Daniel Pagowski Legal Counsel‚ Department of Justice Aboriginal Law and Strategic Police Christopher Devlin Partner Devlin Gailus Barristers & Solicitors Sandra Gogal Partner Miller Thomson LLP How have recent case law developments shed light on the basic questions, such as: What is the scope of the duty to consult? When is the duty triggered? What is included in "contemplated Crown conduct"? How much of the duty can be delegated a) to municipalities? b) to proponents? How much of what proponents do, goes towards the discharge of the Crown's duty? How are Rio Tinto Alcan Inc. v. Carrier Sekani Tribal Council and Adams Lake Indian Band v. British Columbia being applied by lower courts? Clarifying the role of regulatory bodies with respect to the duty to consult Looking at how the B.C. Wireless Spectrum Sharing: Enforcement Frameworks, Technology and R&D (Workshop VIII)

05:19:37
The Wireless Spectrum R&D Interagency Working Group (WSRD) held a workshop, “Wireless Spectrum Sharing: Enforcement Framework, Technology and R&D”, on May 5th, 2016 in Washington, DC 20001. The workshop focused on spectrum sharing enforcement issues and provided a forum for information exchange and the identification of relevant research and development opportunities. WSRD members will use information gathered from this workshop to develop recommendations for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). This workshop series stems from the Presidential memorandum issued on June 14, 2013, Expanding America’s Leadership in Wireless Innovation and has focused on ways to make more wireless spectrum available by encouraging shared access by commercial and Federal users. As with any sharing environment, such as the way aircraft share airspace or vehicles share the roads, underlying enforcement principles for spectrum sharing are critical. Industry and government innovators agree that enforcement is a necessary component for any dynamic spectrum sharing environment to be meaningful and effective. Enforcement needs for wireless spectrum sharing extends well beyond just the enforcement of usage rights (i.e. interference protection). A complete enforcement regime (1) should explicitly recognize that enforcement requirements are bi-lateral (i.e., apply to the primary user as well as the secondary user), and (2) should also include the collective action rights - which encompass management rights (determining which users get to transmit when), exclusion rights (who gets to transmit at all) and alienation rights (who gets to sell the resource). To support a dynamic spectrum sharing environment, consistent and sustainable technology mechanisms are needed to monitor, detect, evaluate or adjudicate, classify, inform, and enforce compliance of the enforcement regime. Enforcement frameworks can rely on central architectures based on data clouds or device level distributed architectures, or a combination of both. This may entail adopting new standards or developing automated enforcement mechanisms and compliance certification methods for next-generation technologies to support the enforcement regime. Other issues to be considered include enforcement-related privacy and security issues, and the economic tradeoffs in ex ante and ex post enforcement mechanisms. more info: https://www.nitrd.gov/nitrdgroups/index.php?title=WSRD_Workshop_VIII_-_Wireless_Spectrum_Sharing

The Mind After Midnight: Where Do You Go When You Go to Sleep?

01:25:41
We spend a third of our lives asleep. Every organism on Earth—from rats to dolphins to fruit flies to microorganisms—relies on sleep for its survival, yet science is still wrestling with a fundamental question: Why does sleep exist? During Shakespeare and Cervantes' time, sleep was likened to death, with body and mind falling into a deep stillness before resurrecting each new day. In reality, sleep is a flurry of action. Trillions of neurons light up. The endocrine system kicks into overdrive. The bloodstream is flooded with a potent cocktail of critically vital hormones. Such vibrant activity begs the question: Where do we go when we go to sleep? Based on new sleep research, there are tantalizing signposts. We delved into the one-eyed, half-brained sleep of some animals; eavesdropped on dreams to understand their cognitive significance; and investigated extreme and bizarre sleeping behaviors like “sleep sex” and “sleep violence.” The World Science Festival gathers great minds in science and the arts to produce live and digital content that allows a broad general audience to engage with scientific discoveries. Our mission is to cultivate a general public informed by science, inspired by its wonder, convinced of its value, and prepared to engage with its implications for the future. How To Diagnose A Fuel Pump Failure - EricTheCarGuy

05:33
I had the privilege of visiting Airtex, and while I was there I spoke with Shane Neuman about diagnosing a faulty fuel pump. In this video we go over the basic steps of diagnosing a faulty fuel pump. So if your vehicle isn't starting and you suspect a fuel pump problem, here are some steps to follow to confirm your suspicions. Another 'quick' test is to bang on the fuel tank and then try and start the engine. Sometimes this works, just don't bang too hard, you could damage something.
