Become a Systems Analyst Step by Step Career Guide

04:45
Become a Systems Analyst Step by Step Career Guide: Should I Become a Systems Analyst? Systems analysts, sometimes referred to as computer systems analysts, investigate a company's computer systems and business procedures to determine how the company can operate more efficiently. They might determine whether new technologies can help a company, as well as analyze the costs and benefits of implementing new systems. Moreover, an analyst may oversee the upgrading of existing computer systems or the installation of new systems in addition to employee training. Systems analysts may work in a range of industries, but generally hold full-time positions; for some, overtime is common. Analysts may work directly for a single corporation or be employed by a computer consulting firm. Though some of the work systems analysts do may be done independently, much of their workload requires collaborations with other IT professionals. Short-distance travel to clients' locations may be required for particular jobs and projects. Career Requirements To get started in this career, you'll need a bachelor's degree in computer science, and some employers prefer a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in information systems. Employers typically require between 3-5 years of experience or a combination of work experience and education in computer science or a related field. Key skills for systems analysts include reading comprehension, critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills; creativity and ability to work well in a team; familiarity with programming, systems evaluation and analysis. The median annual wage for computer systems analysts was $85,400 in 2015, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. What are the steps to become a systems analyst? Step 1: Earn a Bachelor's Degree Many bachelor's degree programs in computer information systems are designed to prepare students to work as systems analysts. These programs provide students with knowledge of business workflow processes, enterprise integration, project management and data management. Computer-related classes in these programs cover topics like database design and implementation, web application development, Java programming, systems analysis and business information systems. Students might also take classes in project management, financial management and marketing. To get the most out of your bachelor's degree program: Complete an internship. Most computer information systems bachelor's degree programs offer internship opportunities. Completing an internship not only provides hands-on experience working in the field, but also networking opportunities that may lead to a career after graduation. Additionally: Consider completing a minor. The BLS states that employment in some fields may require specific education or training. For example, analysts working in the healthcare industry might need to be familiar with basic healthcare practices. Completing a minor in the area of intended future practice may make it easier for students to find employment after graduation. Step 2: Work as a Systems Analyst Healthcare companies, private businesses, and government agencies hire systems analysts. Usually, applicants are required to have a bachelor's degree and five years of experience working in the field. Some employers count college credits as work experience. Consider: Completing continuing education. Because of the rapid pace with which technology changes, analysts may find it necessary to complete continuing education. Continuing education departments at colleges and universities may offer classes in specific computer applications or management practices that can help analysts perform their job duties. Step 3: Consider Advanced Training Master's degree and post-baccalaureate certificate programs in computer information systems are available. These programs provide advanced instruction in computer and business analysis and integration. Their curriculum may include classes in database management, artificial intelligence, and digital image processing. Additionally, they may cover topics such as network administration, Web servers, information systems consulting and information systems project management. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, possessing a graduate degree may make it easier to assume more technically advanced positions in systems analysis. To recap, with a bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience, systems analysts can earn about $86,000 a year to investigate a company's computer systems and business procedures to determine how the company can operate more efficiently.

Find The Perfect Software Team | Understanding Team Types

04:01
Dave Hecker begins his four-part series on how to find your perfect offshore team and get the best price for software development by understanding vendor types, understanding yourself as a client, how different clients match with which vendor types, and how those matches influence the cost of a project. http://www.SourceSeek.com - Connect WIth Top Offshore Software Teams Enterprise Vendors These big companies are typically found in India, Eastern Europe, or more recently in China or South America, and employ many hundreds or even thousands of software developers as well as testing and project-management resources. Although these companies tend to have competitive rates, they are best engaged by large corporations with project budgets of $300,000 to $1,000,000 or more. Body Shops and Mid-Level Vendors This category of software vendor ranges in size from 50 to around 500 employees and covers a wide range of companies with the largest range of quality and style. The dreaded “body shop” model, frequently seen in India and now China, consists of a company that hires junior developers right out of college, then farms them out to overseas clients with minimal training, management, or leadership. Not all vendors in this range, however, are “nightmare” body shops. There are good companies in this range that do solid work, and can be a good fit for clients who want to invest the time and energy to outsource large projects at low rates. Clients who are looking for the Offshore Development Center (ODC) model may do well in this range. Premium, Boutique, and Expat-run Vendors This is probably the best type of vendor if you are a small business, individual, or startup client looking for quality work from a legitimate provider. These companies tend to be expensive by offshore standards - expect to pay between 40% and 70% of what you’d pay for the same service on the domestic market. To find them, you’ll need to find a trusted resource who knows them or search online for vendors with characteristics associated with a desirable boutique firm, and then contact them directly. Upstart Companies and Freelance Vendors This category fills the range between the boutique/expat-run vendors and the bottom- feeders, and is tough to summarize as the range of skill and experience is very broad. In this category, you’ll find both experienced and amateur freelancers, brand new companies with just 1 or 2 partners, and up-and-coming companies that are quickly out- growing the category. The difficulty in finding good vendors in this category cannot be overstated. With that in mind, this is where some great deals are to be had for savvy clients. If you are able to find up-and-coming vendors who have terrific skills but haven’t managed to raise their rates yet (and thus graduate from this category), you can get great work at a low rate. That is easier said than done, though. The Bottom Feeders This is the category in which the offshore nightmares usually happen. You’ve probably heard from these vendors already – through unsolicited messages via email or LinkedIn, where they advertise with wordy and flowery claims of unlimited skills and experience. You’ll also be running into these vendors on Elance, Odesk, vWorker, and other marketplaces, including Craigslist. Bottom-feeders are hungry for work and will usually offer exciting but questionable benefits such as rock-bottom prices, 24/7 availability, the ability to start on your project immediately, a skillset that contains every platform/technology available, and promises of unrealistic deadlines. As you are evaluating vendors, do your best to ignore these bottom- feeders or you’ll set yourself up for an expensive and frustrating lesson in “you get what you pay for.” SUBSCRIBE NOW FOR MORE OUTSOURCING VIDEO TIPS AND NEWS! https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=sourceseek LET'S CONNECT! How to Manage A Web Design Project | Niswatch E04

14:29
Agencies and freelancers often face similar roadblocks while working on a web design project. A great web design process can help you tackle these worries with ease. At Niswey, we have learn't to break down the web design process into 7 manageable phases. You can read the complete blog by Anubhav Tiwari right here: https://www.niswey.com/blog/7-phases-web-design-process/ Or here's a short version: Phase 1: Requirement Gathering Understanding what a project will deliver is critical to its success. Team working on the project should gather all the relevant information. This helps in driving the project to a successful closure. Phase 2: Quoting the Client The cost per hour you bill your client is your call. But there are a few aspects which you should not miss while quoting: Quotation = (Effort you spend on studying the structure of the website and researching) + (Effort for data analytics ) + (Effort you spend on persona building exercise) + (Wireframing Effort) + (Time taken for design conceptualization) + (Designing effort) + (Coordination effort with cross functional teams) + (Effort you spend on review and approval meetings) Phase 3: Persona Building Personas are generalized characters that encompass the various needs, goals, and behavior patterns among your real and potential customers. They help you understand your customers better. Phase 4: Data Analytics Analysis of web data helps in understanding and optimizing the web design. Google Analytics and heatmap study helps in drawing meaningful information. This study helps in knowing what works on the website and what does not! Phase 5: Wireframing Information gathered in the previous phases will give you a launchpad to kickoff wireframing. Be sure to continuously review wireframes so you don't go building in the wrong direction. Phase 6: Web Design Conceptualization Don’t jump into designing straight away after wireframes. Soak-in all the information and wireframes before you actually start designing the website. This gives a direction to your designs. Phase 7: Designing (Finally) And now you are all set to design! Visit us at https://www.niswey.com/blog, for more awesome posts on marketing, design, and much more.

01:00:13
For more information, please visit https://testinginstitute.com/ Software Testing Training | Defect Prevention: A Tester's Role in Process Improvement Part 2 Organizations have become more and more interested in defect prevention as a way of reducing the cost of quality. Historically, the role of the test team in software organizations has been limited to identifying and reporting problems to the development team to fix. Experience suggests that this is a very expensive way to deliver quality products. In our part 1 of this webinar, Mike Ennis has shared a number of methods to help the test team become more of a quality assurance team and help prevent defect from getting into the product. These included risk based testing. In Part 2 of this webinar, Magdy Hanna will present more methods that test professionals can use to prevent defects early in the process as well as using these methods to improve the development process, the testprocess, and the requirement process. These methods include: Closing the gap between development and testing with collaboration. Scenario-based Development and Testing. Sharing testing responsibility with developers. The role of leadership in software development

01:32:05
Google Tech Talks May 6, 2008 ABSTRACT When you look around, there are a lot of leaders recommended for software development. We have the functional manager and the project manager, the scrum master and the black belt, the product owner and the customer-on-site, the technical leader and the architect, the product manager and the chief engineer. Clearly that's too many leaders. So how many leaders should there be, what should they do, what shouldn't they do, and what skills do they need? This will be a presentation and discussion of leadership roles in software development -- what works, what doesn't and why. Speaker: Mary Poppendieck Mary Poppendieck started her career as a process control programmer, moved on to manage the IT department of a manufacturing plant, and then ended up in product development, where she was both a product champion and department manager. Mary considered retirement 1998, but instead found herself managing a government software project where she first encountered the word "waterfall." When Mary compared her experience in successful software and product development to the prevailing opinions about how to manage software projects, she decided the time had come for a new paradigm. She wrote the award-winning book Lean Software Development: An Agile Toolkit in 2003 to explain how the lean principles from manufacturing offer a better approach to software development. Over the past six years, Mary has found retirement elusive as she lectures and teaches classes with her husband Tom. Based on their on-going learning, they wrote a second book, Implementing Lean Software Development: From Concept to Cash in 2006. A popular writer and speaker, Mary continues to bring fresh perspectives to the world of software development. Speaker: Tom Poppendieck Tom Poppendieck has 25 years of experience in computing including eight years of work with object technology. His modeling and mentoring skills are rooted in his experience as a physics professor. His early work was in IT infrastructure, product development, and manufacturing support, and evolved to consulting project assignments in healthcare, logistics, mortgage banking, and travel services. Tom led the development of a world-class product data management practice for a major commercial avionics manufacturer that reduced design to production transition efforts from 6 months to 6 weeks. He also led the technical architecture team for very large national and international Baan and SAP implementations. Tom Poppendieck is an enterprise analyst and architect, and an agile process mentor. He focuses on identifying real business value and enabling product teams to realize that value. Tom specializes in understanding customer processes and in effective collaboration of customer, development and support specialists to maximize development efficiency, system flexibility, and business value. Tom is co-author of the book Lean Software Development: An Agile Toolkit, published in 2003, and its sequel, Implementing Lean Software Development: From Concept to Cash, published in 2006.

Transcript: Testing is commonly perceived to be only about Test execution. So one will not be surprised to hear when tester says I am doing testing other than "test execution". Typical activities that need to be carried out in order to achieve test objectives would be test planning, defining test specifications, test execution , test recording and test reporting. Let us see little more about each of these activities Test Planning is the initial stage of testing. We plan all the testing activities including the resource requirement in terms of human resource, training, software, tools, timelines, risk and mitigations etc. We will revisit this topic in detail in session 5. In test specification stage we derive our test scenarios, test conditions and test cases from Business Requirements documents. We also need to combine all these artifacts using traceability which helps us in determining requirements coverage achieved during the testing effort. It also helps us in maintainability of test deliverable incase of any changes to a particular requirement. Prioritization of test case execution will also be done at this stage, considering business risk associated with each requirement as main factor. During test execution tester will execute all planned test cases and verify if the expected results matches with the actual results. This can be carried out manually or can be automated using appropriate tools based on type of testing carried out. Test recording is the process where tester documents all the test results as test log as a proof of execution. Test reports will be pulled either manually or can be automated. Test reports help in understanding the testing progress till date or at a frequency defined in the test plan. This will be used to evaluate the quality of the software. Testing can be considered as complete for a phase once we meet exit criteria which is defined in test plan. Test closure report is other important deliverable to consider testing activity as complete. Again this can be at end of testing phase or at the end of entire project testing in different phases. Document Review is also considered as a part of testing. It helps in identifying defects in the early phases of testing when executable code is not ready. Document review can help find missing or incorrect requirements, defects in the design and even architecture of the application.

Transcipt: Now let us see how a Project Lifecycle is different from product life cycle. As mentioned earlier, each product lifecycle consists of series of projects to plan, develop, launch, enhance and maintain the product. A Project Life Cycle is a logical sequence of activities to accomplish the objectives of the project. Regardless of complexity of the project, all projects go through a series of activities from inception to closure. The starting stage of a project is the initiation phase, in which critical success factors or core objectives for the project are defined. The key deliverable from this phase is the project charter which authorizes the project start and defines the objectives, high level budgets and sponsor commitments for the project. In the Planning phase the approach to the project is determined and project is divided into smaller tasks with interim deliverables. The project manager plans for all support requirements, identifies risks and defines roles and responsibilities for the project. This phase also includes determining milestones for each of these deliverables. The next phase is the Execution phase, in which the project plan is executed. This is the phase where the actual project execution happens and the project deliverables are created and implemented. The last stage is closing phase that marks the completion of the project. In this phase, the project is formally closed or handed over to the next team in line for taking over. For example, once a product is developed and launched, it will be handed over to the production support team who will maintain and enhance the product in the long run.

He has to thoroughly understand his domain , the product features that his application contains, the technology on which his application is built on, underlying software architecture and design, his client's expectation, his company's urge to meet delivery deadline besides taking care of his work life balance. The software testing process has evolved to the extent that testing starts way ahead in the software development life cycle however with its own complexities. The software test engineer now has super responsibilities, He doubles a business analyst by getting into requirement discussions and reviewing the requirement documents. He guides the software developer by creating automated acceptance tests that the development team can integrate to continuously test their development builds. He has to deliver his core testing activities such as plan tests, conduct system tests, performance tests, security tests, usability tests, manage defects and explain his test reports to internal and external teams. This means that the test engineer's testing methodologies must also change, expand and become smarter. He should automate his tasks using software testing tools. Test automation tools does not allow a test engineer to be overburdened at work. He could finish his tasks faster. He could achieve much more with the testing tools. His chances of working at onsite locations, getting better appraisal rating and salary increment or finding better job opportunities improve with his experience in test automation. Learning test automation is the first step. AuthMatrix: Simplified Authorization Testing for Web Applications - Mick Ayzenberg - AppSec Ca 2016

While many threats to web applications such as SQLi and XSS can be mitigated through generic framework solutions, enforcing authorization remains a complex task for developers. Proper enforcement of access controls requires unique design considerations for each application and can be difficult to get right. Detecting vulnerabilities in authorization can be just as challenging, as these issues are generally difficult to map and test for. Due to the complexity in an application's architecture, pen-testers must frequently use their limited time and resources developing custom tools specific to a single application's authorization model.   In this presentation we take you through the process of designing a tool capable of simplifying this testing methodology to reduce the redundancy between testing unique targets. We will discuss some of the common authorization insecurity patterns seen in web applications and services, consider the common challenges faced by pen-testers when testing for these issues, and present effective methods for mapping the intricacies of these models. Additionally, we will introduce AuthMatrix, a new extension to the Burp Suite testing utility designed to simplify authorization test cases in a clear and reproducible manner. http://www.itelearn.com/ Testing is our primary means of reducing risks that systems and software fail to do what they are supposed to and/or do what they are not supposed to do. Test design involves first identifying what tests are needed to give confidence the product/system/software works and then how to carry out those tests. Risks are prioritized to determine which of many potential tests will be performed in limited available time. Traditional testing, which is reactive, tends to miss many potential risks, so that not only does testing not control them but also they in fact are more likely to occur. This course introduces well-known traditional test design methods as well as powerful Proactive Testingh™ techniques that identify many ordinarily-overlooked risks, while enabling testing the higher risks earlier as well as more.
