Gold Miners in Guyana Are Destroying the Amazon (2008)

08:02
Hidden Gold Rush (2008): For the local Guyanese, mining gold is one of the few sources of income available to them - but it comes with a heavy environmental cost. After more than a decade of illegal mining, the country is facing an environmental disaster. "First the miners burn down the rainforest. Then they dig a giant crater, hosing away the muddy earth and polluting rivers and forests." There are over a thousand illegal mines like this in French Guyana. They’'re steadily destroying the rainforest’'s ecosystem. "“They will never be able to stop it because the jungle is so big and we are so tenacious”," states one miner. Most of this illegal gold is mixed together with gold from other sources and ends up abroad. "“There needs to be much greater political impetus behind regulating this very destructive trade”," states MEP Caroline Lucas. Mining for Emeralds in Brazil by GIA

02:32
http://gia.edu/gem-encyclopedia Mining for Emeralds in Brazil by GIA. Emerald gemstone has many special qualities. From Sao Paolo, Brazil, Sergio Martins discusses the emerald gemstone history, industry and how sourcing this precious stone is performed in Brazilian mines. He explains the different types of Brazilian mining systems that exist at different locations throughout the country. The Belmont mine has a large area and conducts open pit mining on a large scale. They have consistently produced this precious gemstone for 30 years. Sergio also discusses the Nova Era mine, different from the other emerald mines because it belongs to over 140 people. Located in the area of Garimpeiro, emerald mining in this region involves miners making shafts and looking for the vein that leads to a large concentration of emerald, a “pocket”. Mining can take up to few years before any emerald stones are discovered, but once found, they can produce up to 10 million dollars worth of emeralds in one pocket. History of Brazil

03:21
From the http://www.VideoSource.com Global Village Travel Guide and DVD, "Brazil". Stock footage available from http://videosource.com/search.html Transcript: THE HISTORY OF BRAZIL IS LONG AND COMPLEX. WHAT COLUMBUS MISSED WHEN HE DISCOVERED WORLD MAP AMERICA WAS FOUND BY THE PORTUGUESE ADD BRAZIL NAVIGATOR PEDRO ALVARES CABRAL IN 1500. THIS WAS JUST SEVEN YEARS AFTER POPE ALEXANDER THE SIXTH DIVIDED THE NEW WORLD BETWEEN SPAIN AND PORTUGAL BY DRAWING AN ARBITRARY LINE 370 LEAGUES WEST OF THE AZORES. THE IDEA WAS TO GIVE THE RICHES OF THE NEW WORLD TO SPAIN, AND THE ADD C.G.: PRIZES OF AFRICA AND THE FAR EAST TO PORTUGAL. "SPANISH" "Portuguese" BRAZIL, WHICH BULGES FAR EASTWARD INTO THE ATLANTIC, WAS THEN UNKNOWN. THIS ERROR WAS A GEOGRAPHY LESSON THAT GAVE PORTUGAL A FOOTHOLD IN THE NEW WORLD. THE HISTORY OF BRAZIL CONTINUED WITH BAY A SERIES OF BOOMS AND BUSTS THROUGH WHICH THE COUNTRY WAS GRADUALLY EXPLORED AND SETTLED. THE FIRST EXPLORERS FOUND ONLY THE DYE YIELDING WOOD, "PAU-BRAZIL", FROM WHICH BRAZIL TAKES IT'S NAME. THE FIRST MAJOR SETTLEMENTS IN BRAZIL CAME AS THE RESULT OF THE SUGAR BOOM OF THE 17TH CENTURY WHEN BRAZIL BECAME THE WORLD'S LEADING PRODUCER OF SUGAR CANE. THIS ENDED WHEN SUGAR PRODUCED IN THE CARIBBEAN PROVED CHEAPER FOR EUROPEANS TO IMPORT. TODAY CANE IS ONCE MORE AN IMPORTANT CROP, NOT JUST AS THE RAW INGREDIENT FOR A POPULAR DRINK, BUT AS A SOURCE OF ALCOHOL FUEL- PART OF BRAZIL'S MOVE TOWARD ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY. IT WAS THIS EARLY CANE BOOM THAT MADE THE NORTHEASTERN CITY OF SALVADOR, KNOWN LOCALLY AS BAHIA, THE FIRST CAPITAL OF BRAZIL. THIS TROPICAL PORT CITY ,WHICH SITS BESIDE A LARGE BAY SURROUNDED BY COCO PALMS AND FRAGRANT FLOWERS, MAY NO LONGER BE THE POLITICAL CAPITAL OF BRAZIL, BUT THE COLONIAL BEAUTY OF ITS ARCHITECTURE REMAINS. IT IS HERE THAT THE DESCENDENTS OF THE SLAVES, WHO PROVIDED THE PHYSICAL ENERGY FOR THE SUGAR BOOM, TODAY PROVIDE MUCH OF THE SPIRITUAL AND EMOTIONAL ENERGY THAT MAKES BRAZIL SO VERY ALIVE.....

Amazonian Gold Mining Mapped by the Carnegie Airborne Observatory

00:15
Gold mining is ravaging vast tracts of tropical forest worldwide because the gold is found in soils that underlie the rainforest. In the Peruvian Amazon, gold mining has let massive scars in the forest, such as the one shown here, imaged by the Carnegie Airborne Observatory (CAO). The CAO is able to map these gold mining scars in 3-D, with spectroscopic color showing also the extreme pollution generated by mining process. In this video, red colors indicate the presence of suspended sediments that are riddled with highly toxic mercury used in the process of extracting gold from the soils. Carnegie Airborne Observatory (CAO): Our mission is to make scientific discoveries, support conservation, and galvanize action to protect the environment at large geographic scales. Through our advanced Earth imaging technology, novel data analytics, and technical training of next generation scientists, we reach our mission goals all over the world. Our hope is that a highly visual approach can bridge a widening gap between science, decision-making, and society for a more sustainable future.

6 Ancient Forests In The World

25:10
Update:sep 2017: https://widerimage.reuters.com/story/battling-deforestation-in-the-amazon Update: july 2017: -Logging continues in Poland's Bialowieza Last remnants of Europese's ancient medieval forests, its status as a world heritage site is just a protection on paper. -Mining escalates in the Amazon! poisoning environment & the foodchain, fish amongst other. https://widerimage.reuters.com/story/illegal-gold-mining-in-the-amazon Travel the world to observe how a multitude of cultures have formed enduring bonds with trees, believing them imbued of a “life force.” Some are “cosmic,” “home to the gods,” symbolize ancestral roots, or represent fertility. Trees in the forest are also believed to hold apart the earth and sky, so light can come in. Your commitment to their preservation will deepen and grow. Forests are the dominant terrestrial ecosystem of Earth, and are distributed across the globe. Forests account for 75% of the gross primary productivity of the Earth's biosphere, and contain 80% of the Earth's plant biomass. The first known forests on Earth arose in the Late Devonian (approximately 380 million years ago), with the evolution of Archaeopteris. Archaeopteris was a plant that was both tree-like and fern-like, growing to 10 metres (33 ft) in height. Archaeopteris quickly spread throughout the world, from the equator to subpolar latitudes. Archaeopteris formed the first forest by being the first known species to cast shade due to its fronds and forming soil from its roots. Archaeopteris was deciduous, dropping its fronds onto the forest floor. The shade, soil, and forest duff from the dropped fronds created the first forest. The shed organic matter altered the freshwater environment, slowing it down and providing food, which promotes freshwater fish. 6 of these ancient (oldest, biggest, largest) majestic forests are represented in this video; 1: The Amazone Rainforest - South America 2: Baobab Forest - Madagascar, Australia, Africa 3: Tarkine Rainforest - Australia 4: Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park - California, United States 5: Bialowieza Forest - Poland, Belarus 6: Yakushima Forest - Japan I cannot guarantee the accurateness of the information provided, as all information is collected from various sources. Changes are most numbers are estimated guesses, in reality the sizes of the forest are probably bigger, presuming our world map isn't completely accurate. So are the areas of Brazil, Africa and Australia, the southern continents, in truth probably larger then our world-maps show. Protecting these ancient earth's wonders must be prime directive.

Snake Island (Full Length Documentary)

Like VICE News? Subscribe to our news channel: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News Check out the Best of VICE here: http://bit.ly/VICE-Best-Of The highest concentration of one of the most venomous snakes in the world is located about 90 miles off the coast of Santos, Brazil, on a small, craggy chunk of otherwise uninhabitable land. It's known as Ilha da Queimada Grande, or Snake Island, and it's the only place you will find 2,000 or so of the wholly unique golden lancehead viper, or Bothrops insularis. When you step ashore, with a keen eye you spot one of these snakes roughly every 10 to 15 minutes after clearing the base of the island, and as many as one every six square yards in other parts of the island. This means, as you are walking through the waist-high brush, even with some good boots on, it's like walking through a minefield that moves and, instead of blowing you into chunks, slowly paralyzes you and liquefies your insides, as the golden lancehead does to the migrating birds it feeds on in the treetops. Well, "liquefying your insides" may be a stretch, but no one knows for sure because no one bitten has lived long enough even to be admitted to a hospital, or at least none of the researchers who accompanied VICE on their journey to Snake Island owned up to that fact. Nor did the Brazilian Navy, who allowed VICE exclusive access to document their annual maintenance inspection of Snake Island's lighthouse—which has been automated ever since the 1920s, after the old lighthouse keeper ran out of food and disappeared while picking wild bananas in a small grove near the shore. According to legend, he and the members of his rescue party died one by one, all alone and in search of one another after each had been missing for some time. The golden lancehead is so unique and its venom so potent that specimens procured by snake-smuggling "biopirates" can fetch up to $30,000 apiece on the black market (with prices going much higher depending on the location of the rich weirdo snake collector or, some have speculated, the black-market biopharmaceutical chemists attempting to beat Brazil on a patent). Is that the craziest fucking description of a documentary you've ever heard? The answer is yes. So of course VICE's editor-in-chief, Rocco Castoro, and senior producer, Jackson Fager, had to go there and nose around for themselves. On their return they said things like: "It was like a David Lynch movie through the prism of Satan's asshole. The anti-Galápagos. Darwin in reverse." "[It's] cut off from the mainland and perhaps the land of a long-buried pirate treasure, according to the stories from local fishermen. But they also told us there were aliens on the island, so pretty much anything goes. It's scorched earth. It's where I would send my worst enemies to live, and I look forward to setting up a business with the Brazilian government to do just that. After the World Cup, of course." "What I can tell you is that there are stone fucking steps hand-carved into the face of one of the prominent cliffs, all the way up. But you can't dock anywhere near there. There's also the possibility that [the venom] could be used for an anti-cancer drug, or perhaps anti-aging. Maybe it could save mankind. Whatever. They wouldn't have saved my ass." "There are blue locusts and so many of these weird, prehistoric-looking cockroaches on the ground at night that it crunches when you walk. Place is fucked. No one is allowed there for a reason. Don't ever go." "All that said, great shoot. Great diving, too." Ordos The World’s Largest Abandoned City The development of the city of Ordos is a unique tale. Ordos is a city designed from scratch and built within 10 years. This city came to fruition after private mining companies were given the rights to dig into deposits in the late 90’s and 2000’s. This generated a lot of tax revenue making Ordos the 2nd highest income per capita city in China. Ordos is a city located in Inner Mongolia that has been constantly been burdened with water shortage issues. Instead of trying to revamp the current infrastructure the Chinese government decided to rebuild the city from scratch which is called “New Ordos” just 16 miles or 25 km kilometers away from the existing city now called “Old Ordos”. The people of Old Ordos refer to New Ordos as the Kangbashi district of Ordos, these new and old labels are basically not supported by anyone locally. Two villages built around the Wulan Mulan River were demolished and construction started in 2005. 161 billion dollars in infrastructure was invested to build the Kangbashi District over the first 5 years. Regardless if anyone lives in this new city, this is a major plus to the government of China as it increases China’s GDP. The government gave kickbacks to developers who helped boost GDP so building anything anywhere is promoted. The old city of Ordos or Dongsheng is home to over ½ a million people, it was expected that many of them would move to the new city as it became completed. As explained by many locals, a working couple only makes $800 a month combined of which ⅓ is taken for rent. The new apartments in New Ordos sell for 70 - 100 thousand dollars making it virtually impossible for locals to live there. Sales were slow at first but eventually investors snapped up many of the units in the new city. This has left New Ordos with a ton of infrastructure and no residents. The city was originally designed to hold 1 million people but was scaled down during construction to 500,000 then to 300,000 after coal prices crashed. The city features a 5 story shopping mall, impressive monuments and statues, art and city museum, the Ordos Dongsheng Stadium that seats 35,000 people, opera house, a brand new airport and a modern designed mosque. The city streets are lined with skyscraper after skyscraper that are almost completely empty. A toy store is one of the only stores in the massive 5 story mall, the man who runs the store says he sells something every few days and if the government doesn’t step in soon to fix it, he may have to move back to Dongsheng. It is estimated only 2 % of the buildings were ever filled the rest remain abandoned. Outside the mall an elaborate water show is put on every night with only a few people found to be watching it. A water show this size in a normal city would draw thousands of viewers daily. The city has everything it needs to be a great thriving new city like extra wide roads with bike lanes like what is found in Taipei, modern amenities and infrastructure but simply no people. The initial wave of 30,000 people that moved to New Ordos all lived in a 4 to 5 block radius just north of central park. A few years later that grew to 60,000 and now 12 years after the start of construction there are around 150,000 residents in a city that was originally designed for 1 million. The city has been doing many things to attract people to live there like moving the best schools from Dongsheng to Kangbashi. While some areas of Kangbashi aren’t a ghost town at all today, many still are. One abandoned project is the Ordos 100 Project, which is a project that was to have 100 different extreme luxury villas designed. Instead of the government doing it themselves they invited 100 different architects from around the world to each design a luxury villas to be placed on the map. Land sections were given out with the utmost creative freedom except the design was not to look like traditional Mongolian designs such as Yurts. Each architect designed their villa and construction started. Within the Ordos 100 Project site multiple half finished villas can be found. While many lay half finished some have progress going forward. The Emerald City - Mines, Marketing, and the Environment in Brazil

16:02
Focusing on the mining town of Campos Verde, Brazil, this short film highlights the costs and benefits of emerald mining and marketing. While there are negative environmental impacts from the mines, modernization and research have revealed positive practices and a cascade of sustainable development effects from the emerald business in Campos Verde and other market towns. Filmed by Saleem Ali in conjunction with his attendance at the 5th Annual General Meeting of Communities and Small-Scale Mining (CASM), a multi-donor technical assistance facility that aims to reduce poverty and improve quality of life in mining communities, the film depicts the complexity of environmental and social issues involved in gemstone mining and proffers ideas on how to establish sustainable livelihoods for rural communities in Brazil. Travel to Brazil with trip leader Gonzalo Trama (HD) - Brazil Tours, Brazil Tourism & vacations Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Brazil is the largest country in South America and fifth largest in the world. Famous for its football (soccer) tradition and its annual Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Recife and Olinda. It is a country of great diversity, from the bustling urban mosaic of São Paulo to the infinite cultural energy of Pernambuco and Bahia, the wilderness of the Amazon rainforest and world-class landmarks such as the Iguaçu Falls, there is plenty to see and to do in Brazil. See in Brazil ============ Natural wonders ------------------------------ Mata Atlantica, Bahia ================ Amazon Rainforest - The Amazon River Basin holds more than half of the world's remaining rainforest, and over 60% of that lies within the North of Brazil — approximately one billion acres with incredible biodiversity. The region is home to about 2.5 million insect species, over 40,000 plants species, 2200 fish species, and more than 2,000 types of birds and mammals. One in five of all the bird species in the world live in the rainforests of the Amazon, and one in five of the fish species live in Amazonian rivers and streams. Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica) - A region of tropical and subtropical forest which extends along the Atlantic coast of Brazil from Rio Grande do Norte state in the Northeast to Rio Grande do Sul state in the South. The Atlantic Forest has a wide variety of vegetation, including the many tree species such as the iconic araucaria tree in the south or the mangroves of the northeast, dozens of types of bromeliads and orchids, and unique critters such as capivara. The forest has also been designated a World Biosphere Reserve, with a large number of highly endangered species including the well-known marmosets, lion tamarins and woolly spider monkeys. Unfortunately, it has been extensively cleared since colonial times, mainly for the farming of sugar cane and for urban settlements — The remnants are estimated to be less than 10% of the original, and that is often broken into hilltop islands. However, large swaths of it are protected by hundreds of parks, including 131 federal parks, 443 state parks, and 14 municipal parks, most of which are open to visitation. Campos Gerais - With a vast vegetation of grasses and areas of transition between the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest, this region offers beautiful scenery of cliffs and canyons, as Jaguaricatú Valley, beyond the fifth and the eighth most extensive canyons in the world, which are respectively Guartelá and Jaguariaíva . Jaguariaíva the canyon is made more beautiful rafting activity in Brazil. Pantanal - A vast tropical wetland expanse, one of the world's largest. 80% of it lies within the state of Mato Grosso do Sul but it also extends into Mato Grosso (as well as into portions of Bolivia and Paraguay), sprawling over an area estimated at between 140,000 and 195,000 square kilometers (54,000-75,000 sq mi). 80% of the Pantanal floodplains are submerged during the rainy seasons, nurturing an astonishing biologically diverse collection of aquatic plants and helping support a dense array of animal species. Waterfalls (Cachoeiras) - Brazil has an amazing range of impressive waterfalls of all sizes and shapes. Iguaçu Falls, in eastern Parana, is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world, truly a sight to see. The 353-meter Cachoeira da Fumaça in Bahia's Chapada Diamantina National Park is the country's second highest waterfall, after the Amazon's almost inaccessible Cachoeira do Araca. Other famous waterfalls include Caracol Falls, in a Rio Grande do Sul state park of the same name near Canela, Itaquira Falls, an easily accessible 168-meter fall near Formosa, Goiás, and the gorge at Parque da Cascata near Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais. Aside from the nationally famous falls, in many parts of the country, particularly the South, Southeast, and Central West regions, you are rarely far from at least one locally-famous, named waterfall worth a short hike. Architecture ============= Colonial architecture - Many cities have reminders of Brazil's colonial past, with churches, monasteries, forts, barracks, and other structures still intact. Some of the most concentrated and best-preserved colonial buildings can be found in old gold-mining towns such as Ouro Preto and Tiradentes, but many other cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Petrópolis, Salvador, Recife, Paraty, and Goiânia have quite significant colonial centers as well.

The American Explorers Explained

09:26
Here is the story of the first American explorers, from Leif Eriksson to Christopher Columbus to Samuel de Champlain. If you like these Story Time videos, please subscribe to my podcast! http://iammrbeat.podomatic.com. Music by Electric Needle Room. http://www.electricneedleroom.com. All images in the public domain. Once upon a time, for thousands of years, the human beings on two continents, Europe and North America, just ignored each other. Then, in the late 980s, a group known as the Norsemen, more famously known as Vikings, left Iceland, heading west. Led by Erik the Red, who had been banished from Iceland for murder, they eventually came across the island of Greenland, and settled there. Later, Erik had a son named Leif Eriksson (get it, Erik SON), who grew up to head even further west, leading a ship to what is today known as Labrador, the Baffin Islands, and Newfoundland. Thus, Eriksson became the first known European to explore North America. Almost 500 years later, Christopher Columbus became the next European to explore the Americas. In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Sorry about that. Anyway, after ten weeks at sea, Columbus reached what is now known as the Bahamas. He named the place they landed San Salvador. Thinking he had reached Asia, he kept going until he reached modern-day Cuba, which he assumed was China. When Columbus returned to Spain the next year, he had products with him totally unknown to Europe like coconuts, tobacco, and potatoes. He also had stories of darker-skinned native peoples he encountered whom he called “Indians” because he had thought he was sailing in the Indian Ocean. Columbus later made three more trips to America between 1494 and 1502, exploring modern day Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Jamaica, and Trinidad. After all this, he still was convinced he was exploring Asia. Others weren’t so convinced. Spain and Portugal sent many other ships to explore this “New World” in those early years, and on one of the ships sent by Portugal was a dude named Amerigo Vespucci, an Italian who was not convinced they were exploring Asia. After his trip viewing modern-day Brazil, he was sure this land was part of a new continent. Vespucci spread the word about the new continent, convincing people he was right and Columbus was wrong. In 1507, the German cartographer Martin Waldseemuller made a world map in which he named the new continent America after the Latin feminine version of Vespucci’s first name, which is Americus. Meanwhile, it became clear there were two Americas, meaning a North America and a South America, after Spanish explorers went exploring like crazy up north. In 1513, Juan Ponce de Leon went searching for the Fountain of Youth and ended up finding and naming Florida. By the way, he never found a Fountain of Youth. That same year, Vasco Nunez de Balboa made it through the Isthmus of Panama to be the first European to reach the eastern coast of the Pacific Ocean. In 1519, the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan and his crew sailed around the bottom tip of South America, across the Pacific to the Philippines, where Magellan was killed in the Battle of Mactan. But his crew kept on going afterwards, with Juan Sebastian Elcano now leading, sailing around the southern tip of Africa and returning to Europe in 1522, becoming the first expedition to circumnavigate the entire planet. In the 1500s, Spain became the richest country in the world because of its explorers who were also conquistadors. The same year Magellan’s crew sailed out from Spain, Hernando Cortes and his army conquered the Aztec Empire of modern day Mexico. By 1521, Cortes had taken control of all of the Aztecs gold and silver mines. In 1531, Francisco Pizarro and his expedition took out the Inca Empire of Peru, gaining access to the Inca silver mines of Potosi. So yeah, Spain had so much precious metals they didn’t know what to do with it all, and even caused prices to skyrocket in Western Europe because of it. However, they killed a bunch of people to get it.

Singing Group In Peru , Gold Mining Trip

00:09
My Peruvian Gold Expedition www.goldfidelity.com http://www.youniquewealth.com/gold4free Dear Silver and Gold Owners, What a year it has been and some really positive things are happening I need to share with you. As I may already have told you I traveled to Peru to learn about the Gold bullion business; first hand pictures here under the gold of Peru. Gold is very exhilarating as the precious metals are hitting all time highs as I'm sure you have seen in the news. Ah but every silver lining seems to have a cloud and that cloud is the US economy lets look at what's going down..... The US National debt has hit 12 trillion dollars. How much is a trillion? A trillion is a very, very big number, and I think it would be worth spending a minute trying to get our arms around the concept. First, a numerical review. A thousand is a one with three zeros after it. A million is a thousand times bigger than that and it's a one with six zeros after it. At this level I can really get my mind around the difference between these two numbers. A million dollars in the bank is a very different concept from a thousand dollars in the bank. A billion then is a thousand times bigger than a million, and it's a one followed by 9 zeros. And a trillion is a thousand times bigger than that, and it's a one followed by 12 zeros. So a trillion is a thousand billions, which means it is a million millions. You know what? I don't know what that means! I can't visualize that, so let's take a different tack on this. Suppose I gave you a thousand dollar bill and said you and a friend had to spend it all in a single evening out on the town. You'd have a pretty good time. Now suppose you had a stack of thousand dollar bills that was four inches in height. If you did, you know what? Congratulations, you'd be a millionaire. Now suppose you wanted to enter the super-elite of the wealthy and have a billion dollars. How tall of a stack of thousand dollar bills would that be? The answer is a stack only 358 feet high, barely reaching 1/3rd of the way up the Petronas towers. Now how about a stack of thousand dollar bills to equal a trillion dollars? How tall would that stack be? Think of an answer. Well, that stack would be 67.9 miles high. And I meant stack, not laid end to end. A solid stack of thousand dollar bills, 67.9 miles high. Now that's a trillion dollars. Ø Unemployment in real terms is at 17% Ø Foreign governments and the UN want to end the US dollars status as reserve currency Ø The value of the US dollar is plummeting as the Fed prints money at a breakneck speed Ø Record foreclosures and home values have been decimated Ø Millions have lost faith in the stock market and don't feel like getting burned again in a Goldman Sachs manipulated suckers rally All of this adds up to the fact that Americans are being robbed by the invisible hand of devalued currency. An example would be if your 401k holds $10,000 dollars, each day it drops in value because that same $10,000 will buy so much less. It used to be during the American hay day that a dollar (backed by silver) was the working person's daily pay or that just 500 USD would buy a farm! There is good news for you in all of this and if you're getting this letter I have chosen you to be among a handful of special friends to cash in and maybe even grow prosperous at this time. I have joined an awesome new company in Gold and Silver and I want you to be apart of it. The company is called Younique Network and they deal in numismatic Gold and Silver. They are a totally different opportunity in home managed business that will leave you at the end of the year with more money than you began with. I researched many companies before choosing Younique. Here are the criteria I used..... Very low cost of entry Very low monthly costs A new opportunity not a burnt out one No debt needed to grow and profit A way to cash in on a subject you cant help but to hear about every time you turn on the TV and that people WANT to learn about A networked company using a pay plan where you would be at the top and benefit some of the best recruiters in networking in the world Listen I am probably the last guy in the world who you would think would be willing to go in a new direction but by simply looking at the geopolitical and economic tea leaves I have no other choice. I don't want you to be like the millions of families that have gone to the bank only to find a CLOSED sign or the families that invested with a broker like Barney Madoff only to find out they have nothing in their golden years. I want you to earn free bullion and keep it in a safe place for the future. I want you to benefit from our relationship as I build a mega team across the U.S.A and then the world. Please visit my website and be at the top of what is sure to be a mega sales team... Making Money and Having a Blast, Scott Mathieu 352-688-7269

Recent Advancements in Full Tensor Gravity Gradiometry for Resource Exploration: A Case study...

14:37
2014 Fall Meeting Section: Near Surface Geophysics Session: Advances in Exploration Geophysics III Title: Recent Advancements in Full Tensor Gravity Gradiometry for Resource Exploration: A Case study from West Africa - Birmian Greenstone Belt Authors: Brewster, J, Bell Geospace Inc, Houston, TX, United States Mataragio, J, Bell Geospace Inc, Houston, TX, United States Abstract: Over the years significant progress has been made in understanding the regional geologic models of the Greenstone Belts associated with gold mineralization in the fields of exploration geochemistry, geophysics and data integration. Improved knowledge of the geological models together with advancements in exploration techniques have resulted in the discovery of many near surface, and relatively large gold mines around the world such as the Abitibi, Isua, Barberton, Lake Victoria, Sadiola, and Yatela. However, the search for new deposits becomes more difficult due to the fact that most easily detectable, near surface deposits have been discovered. Many of the remaining deposits tend to be remotely located and deep underground. Effective exploration for new economically viable deposits requires approaches that integrate multiple techniques capable of resolving smaller, deeper and remotely located resources. Gravity surveys have been widely used to map and define geometry and structure of greenstones belts at a regional scale. Structure and hydrothermally altered zones can be mapped, either directly by gravity in weathered environments or inferred in terrains where geological units of different density are offset and/or altered Gravity gradiometry is increasingly becoming a standard method of commercial minerals exploration. Gradiometry presents a significant increase in spatial resolution when compared to previous airborne gravity methods. Airborne full tensor gravity gradiometry surveys have been flown in the past for prospect-level gold exploration in Quebec, Nunavut, Nevada, Brazil, Mali, Zambia and New Zealand and Nevada. The application of airborne gravity gradiometry for prospect-level gold exploration over greenstone belts is discussed in this paper. The high resolution system capability to detect small, high frequency targets is the key for successful results. In addition, this paper presents and discusses data enhancement and 3D inversion results. It is expected that the result of data enhancement and 3D inversion will help resolve subsurface structures associated with gold mineralization and updates the existing geological model over the property. Gold, Religion and the Development of a Capitalist Economy (2007)

Liberal democracy is a form of government in which representative democracy operates under the principles of liberalism, i.e. protecting the rights of the individual, which are generally enshrined in law. It is characterised by fair, free, and competitive elections between multiple distinct political parties, a separation of powers into different branches of government, the rule of law in everyday life as part of an open society, and the equal protection of human rights, civil rights, civil liberties, and political freedoms for all persons. To define the system in practice, liberal democracies often draw upon a constitution, either formally written or uncodified, to delineate the powers of government and enshrine the social contract. After a period of sustained expansion throughout the 20th century, liberal democracy became the predominant political system in the world. A liberal democracy may take various constitutional forms: it may be a constitutional republic, such as France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, or the United States, or a constitutional monarchy, such as Japan, Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, or the United Kingdom. It may have a presidential system (Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, the United States), a semi-presidential system (France), or a parliamentary system (Australia, Canada, India, Pakistan, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal_democracy Gold resists attacks by individual acids, but it can be dissolved by aqua regia (nitro-hydrochloric acid), so named because it dissolves gold. Gold also dissolves in alkaline solutions of cyanide, which have been used in mining. It dissolves in mercury, forming amalgam alloys; it is insoluble in nitric acid, which dissolves silver and base metals, a property that has long been used to confirm the presence of gold in items, giving rise to the term acid test. This metal has been a valuable and highly sought-after precious metal for coinage, jewelry, and other arts since long before the beginning of recorded history. In the past, the Gold standard has been implemented as a monetary policy, but it was widely supplanted by fiat currency starting in the 1930s. The last gold certificate and gold coin currencies were issued in the U.S. in 1932. In Europe, most countries left the gold standard with the start of World War I in 1914 and, with huge war debts, did not return to gold as a medium of exchange. The value of gold is rooted in its medium rarity, easily handling, easy smelting, non-corrosiveness, distinct color and non-reactiveness to other elements; qualities most other metals lack. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold The economic history of the United Kingdom deals with the economic history of Britain after 1700.[1] Britain led the industrial revolution and dominated the European and world economy during the 19th century. It was the major innovator in machinery such as steam engines (for pumps, factories, railway locomotives and steamships), textile equipment, and tool-making. It invented the railway system and built much of the equipment used by other nations. As well it was a leader in international and domestic banking, entrepreneurship, and trade. It built a global British Empire. After 1840 it abandoned mercantilism and practised "free trade," with no tariffs or quotas or restrictions. The powerful Royal Navy protected its global holdings, while its legal system provided a system for resolving disputes inexpensively. Between 1870 and 2000, economic output per head of population in Britain rose by 500 per cent, generating a significant rise in living standards. However, from the late 19th century onwards Britain experienced a relative economic decline as other nations such as the United States and Germany caught up. In 1870, Britain's output per head was the second highest in the world after Australia. By 1914, it was fourth highest. In 1950, British output per head was still 30 per cent ahead of the six founder members of the EEC, but within 50 years it had been overtaken by many European and several Asian countries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_history_of_the_United_Kingdom

Eleven miners trapped after Honduran mine collapse

00:43
Eleven miners have been trapped in an illegal gold mine since Wednesday, in the Honduran town of San Juan Arriba, 110 km (70 miles) south of the capital, Tegucigalpa. The men were working in the 80 meter deep mine when a landslide caused the entrance to collapse. Firefighters have been able to communicate with three of the men, but the fate of the other eight is unknown. Lieutenant Manuel de Jesus Reyes, a firefighter from the city of Choluteca, told Reuters that rescuers have been forced to work slowly and carefully to avoid causing another rock slide. For that reason, rescuers are also unable to use heavy machinery to move the massive rocks blocking the mine. The mine has no safety equipment, and no map of its network exists. According to Gerardo Flores, the Honduran manager of Mayan Gold, a U.S. miner based nearby which has been involved in the rescue effort, the men would likely not survive for more than four days without sufficient food and water, and air may be limited air, local television reported. Deputy environment minister Carlos Pineda told local television that the mine had been ordered closed several months ago. Working in the mine can yield $14 USD per day in gold nuggets, three times the average wage in that part of Honduras. According to the BBC, the mayor of the nearby town of El Corpus, Luis Andres Rueda, at least 50 “informal” mines operate in that area.

You will be mining resources, researching technologies, building infrastructure, automating production and fighting enemies. In the beginning you will find yourself chopping trees, mining ores and crafting mechanical arms and transport belts by hand, but in short time you can become an industrial powerhouse, with huge solar fields, oil refining and cracking, manufacture and deployment of construction and logistic robots, all for your resource needs. However this heavy exploitation of the planet's resources does not sit nicely with the locals, so you will have to be prepared to defend yourself and your machine empire. Join forces with other players in cooperative Multiplayer, create huge factories, collaborate and delegate tasks between you and your friends. Add mods to increase your enjoyment, from small tweak and helper mods to complete game overhauls, Factorio's ground-up Modding support has allowed content creators from around the world to design interesting and innovative features. While the core gameplay is in the form of the freeplay scenario, there are a range of interesting challenges in the form of the Scenario pack, available as free DLC. If you don't find any maps or scenarios you enjoy, you can create your own with the in-game Map Editor, place down entities, enemies, and terrain in any way you like, and even add your own custom script to make for interesting gameplay. Guardians of the Forest - Episode 2

04:38
Watch how Lucy and I created the tapestry to illustrate the map of the Amazon rainforest!! Make sure to follow me on Instagram for regular updates on my life and art! Follow me: Art Instagram : @francescaapage Personal Instagram : @plant_based_artisit Lucy's Instagram : @lucyisobelharris Etsy Shop : https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Francescaapage?ref=hdr_shop_menu Facebook Page : https://www.facebook.com/francescaapage/?ref=bookmarks I have learnt so much from this project, it's furthered my passion for human rights, the planet and Veganism! Our natural world is simply perfect and incredibly amazing! And without it we as humans cannot survive - we need to wake up and save the forests that we depend on for our oxygen, water and food - life itself. 50% of our oxygen comes from the forests, the other 50% comes from the oceans. 75% of fresh water comes from forests. So if we SAVE THE TRIBES HOME - WE SAVE OURSELVES! Up to 137 plant, animal and insects species are lost every day due to rainforest destruction and 1-2 acres of forest are cleared every second! Which is shocking!! We created a map which would illustrate the 6 main causes to deforestation and tribal lands in the Amazon Rainforest. 6 main causes- -Deforestation, Logging -Mining such as Gold, Iron and steel -Oil -Dams -Agriculture such as soya and Sugar -Cattle Ranchers (meat and Leather industry) The Amazon Rainforest is one of the most biodiverse regions on the earth. It is home to a staggering 15% of the worlds known land-based plant species and nearly 10% of the worlds mammals, and has as many as 300 species of tree in a single hectare. The Amazon is home to about 220,000 people from 180 different indigenous nations who live deep in the rainforest. The rainforest provides these people with everything from food and shelter to tools and medicines, and plays a crucial role in the spiritual life of indigenous peoples. It also plays a vital role keeping the world’s climate stable. Animal Agriculture is responsible for up to 91% of Amazon destruction! World-wide, at least 50% of grain is fed to livestock and 80% of soya grown in the Amazon is fed to Livestock. We are currently growing enough food to feed 10 billion people!!! Which is mad as 82% of staving children live in countries where food is fed to animals, and the animals are eaten by western countries!! Companies such as Maggi, KFC and McDonald's are helping further the deforestation in the Amazon by growing and using soya for pot noodles, using soya to feed there chickens (KFC and McDonald’s chicken nuggets) and precious amazon land to graze their cattle. The KFC cardboard boxes come from a company which is involved in logging and illegal logging (double whammy!). You vote with your money so please think twice before supporting such environmentally and health wise destructive companies. Greenpeace research shows that not only is soya destroying the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, but soya farmers are guilty of further crimes including slavery and the invasion of indigenous peoples’ lands. Companies such as Nike, Timberland and adidas all get there leather from cows skin in the amazon as well, think before you buy! ‘By 2050, current trends in agricultural expansion will eliminate a total of 40% of Amazon Forest, including at least two-thirds of the forest cover of six major watersheds and 12 eco-regions.’ -Britaldo Silveira Soares-Filho, University of Minas Gerais. Gold mining industry is involved with slavery, and toxic chemicals used in mining, especially mercury and cyaniade are now seeping into the rivers and groundwater polluting this once pristine wilderness! This is killing and polluting the creatures who live in the rivers (such as fish which is some tribes main source of food) and this leads on to causing pollution and dead zones in the ocean! Hydroelectric Dams are being built which is causing dozens of species in the Amazon, including fish, birds and mammals to be put at risk. Even though it is seen as a 'green energy', it in fact causing pollution of the rivers, drought and flooding in some areas which in effect causes the Ph of the soil to change as well as soil erosion, landslides and serious geological damage. Fish habitats are shaped by physical factors such as water level, water velocity and shelter opportunities and access to food. Draining would be completely devastating to the fish. Beyond this, the amount of water may have different effects on the fish in a river, depending on the type and stage of the lifecycle. It is more of a ‘dirty energy’ than a ‘green energy’. There is so much to say about this topic, I have done weeks of research on the amazon and feel I have only hit the tip of the iceberg- excited to continue this project and to learn more. Tribes in the amazon face the horrible challenge of their land being stolen from them everyday! Live ethically, live mindfully and go vegan for the planet!!

The Spanish Empire, Silver, & Runaway Inflation: Crash Course World History #25

10:46
In which John Green explores how Spain went from being a middling European power to one of the most powerful empires on Earth, thanks to their plunder of the New World in the 16th and 17th centuries. Learn how Spain managed to destroy the two biggest pre-Columbian civilizations, mine a mountain made of silver, mishandle their economy, and lose it all by the mid-1700s. Come along for the roller coaster ride with Charles I (he was also Charles V), Philip II, Atahualpa, Moctezuma, Hernán Cortés, and Francisco Pizarro as Spain rises and falls, and takes two empires and China down with them.
