How is Coal Formed? - Geography for Kids | Educational Videos by Mocomi

01:52
http://mocomi.com/ presents : How is Coal Formed? Millions of years ago, a large number of plants and ferns grew on Earth. These plants and ferns died in swamps, around riverbanks and got covered with soil and mud and slowly sank into the ground. As the years passed, the Earth’s heat and the weight of the ground changed these dead plants into coal. To extract coal, it needs to be dug out. Coal is usually found in layers, or seams underground. Learn more about where do we get coal and how does it form with the help of this animated learning module for kids. Children's Lives at Risk in Tanzania's Gold Mines

04:58
(Dar Es Salaam, August 28, 2013) -- Children as young as eight-years-old are working in Tanzanian small-scale gold mines, with grave risks to their health and even their lives. The Tanzanian government should curb child labor in small-scale mining, including at informal, unlicensed mines, and the World Bank and donor countries should support these efforts. http://www.hrw.org/news/2013/08/28/tanzania-hazardous-life-child-gold-miners

Every organism is in need of water and food for their survival. Transportation is a process of transporting water, minerals and food to all parts of the plant body. Conducting tissues such as xylem and phloem will play an important role in Transportation. Water is transported from roots to all parts of the plant by xylem vessels through root hairs. Food is prepared by plants from raw materials such as CO2, water and in the presence of sunlight through photosynthesis. Prepared food is transported to all parts of the body from leaves to plant parts by conducting tissue called phloem. After transporting remaining excess amount of water are released in to the outside of the atmosphere through transpiration process.

PULLING a TENT TRAILER in the Backyard Scale Trail Park - Team Raffee | RC ADVENTURES

08:28
** FREE RCSparks Autographed Tent Trailer Kit Giveaway: http://bit.ly/2pfsfOt - Draw is on Friday Sept 21, 6:00 pm This is a Traxxas Bronco TRX4, the "Sunset" version. Today it is accompanied with a Team Raffee 1/10th Scale Pop Up Tent Trailer. I left it "popped up", because I thought it would make for great film.. and I think I was right! Welcome to my backyard scale trail park.. a place that I have made very difficult over the last few years. I am using a portal axle crawler that is exceptionally capable. I have a few upgrades on it, but mostly stock. I think I did pretty good pulling a trailer, and driving one handed while filming :) If you want more direct info on the tent trailer, and where to get one, click here: http://bit.ly/2NfLHss SUBSCRiBE & “Ring the Bell" ► http://bit.ly/JOovvU "1 Million Views Club": http://bit.ly/2AYVrAF RCSPARKS Shirts & MERCH: https://shop.spreadshirt.ca/RCSPARKS/ RC ADVENTURES™/ RCSparks Studio™ © 2018 Medic Media Productions Inc. RC ADVENTURES - GOLD Mine Trommel & 4200XL Excavator, Radio Controlled

05:25
Click Here To Subscribe! ► http://bit.ly/JOovvU - I was looking to build a trommel since before I did the GOLD sluicing video. What is a Trommel? Well - its a rotating drum that is its basic form is a filtering system. For example, excavation contractors may screen their site debris into two fractions; a saleable topsoil for farms, nurseries and site-work, as well as cleaned rock for aggregates or landscaping work. This allows the contractor to resell their waste, instead of incurring the cost of sending it for disposal. The same principle applies to the production of compost, sand/gravel, lumber mill by-products and municipal waste. Trommels are also used in the recovery of gold from mineral rich soils. The dirt is broken up by high pressure water jets before entering the trommel, which breaks up the dirt further and outputs the rocks and stones while depositing the gold fragments in special plastic mats. Partnering up with long time RC Adventures viewer, Mike, aka "MAV",(https://www.youtube.com/MadAddVent) we have come up with something incredible. This project has been secretly being created for several months, and is the brainchild of MAV from the beginning. and now we are able to mine and filter Good Pay Dirt, from the Debris! Once again a special thanks to Mike Aka MAV for helping make this RC Mining adventure possible! make sure to check out his YouTube channel! RC ADVENTURES - Dredge Mineral Mining with an Earth Digger 4200XL Excavator & Screening Bucket

06:34
Click Here To Subscribe! ► http://bit.ly/JOovvU - Dredging and Mining has always fascinated me. And now, with the use of the special Screening Bucket I purchased at http://www.RC-Welt.eu, I can easily dredge without scooping a bunch of water water. In fact, it works GREAT for a WASH Bucket! Here is a Link to the bucket I purchased: http://goo.gl/FG8jG7 The minerals you see me pulling is Pyrite. The mineral pyrite, or iron pyrite, also known as fool's gold, is an iron sulfide with the formula FeS2. This mineral's metallic luster and pale brass-yellow hue give it a superficial resemblance to gold, hence the well-known nickname of fool's gold. The color has also led to the nicknames brass, brazzle, and Brazil, primarily used to refer to pyrite found in coal The excavator is doing really well. I am always very pleased at the power it has. Believe me.. it is not easy to operate - but with much practice, one can become quite controlled. I purchased my excavator at http://store.rc4wd.com I know people always ask details.. so here you go! Important Note: This product is for experienced R/C users. Not recommended if you just started with R/C. Specifications: 100% CNC machined aluminum (except track and hydraulic pump) Custom 8 channel 2.4Ghz radio High Intensity Light (Super bright) (3 Watt) Optimized steel hydraulic system Scale operator station (can fit a driving figure and seat) Steel molded tracks (50mm width, 45 grade carbon steel) Efficient under carriage with tracks Reliable hydraulic valve and adjustable pump Heavy duty hoses (OD 4.5mm Nylon, ID 2.5mm) Bearing based undercarriage design Undercarriage rotate 360 degrees (endless) Powder coated in yellow Massive brushless system (hydraulic) 125A brushless ESC with BEC 350Kv brushless monster torque motor (4130 OutRunner, 6mm shaft) Neodymium magnets Belt/track is track is controlled individually Run time is: 40-50 minutes (6500mAh battery) Steel machined oil pump (45mm X 30mm X 15.5mm) Digging force: 15kg/33pounds Driving speed: 310 meter per hour Scale: 1:12 Dig depth: 495mm/19.4inch Height of cabin: 155mm/6.1inch Length: 1.15meter/45inch Width: 250mm/9.8inch Height: 840mm/33inch Deadweight: 20kg/44lbs Operating oil pressure: 20Bar, 290psi RC ADVENTURES™/ RCSparks Studio™ © 2014 Medic Media Productions Inc.. The Ugly Face of Beauty: Is Child Labour the Foundation for your Makeup?

24:17
Mica is a naturally occurring mineral that is widely used in makeup for its shimmery quality. It makes eyeshadow dazzle and gives foundations a sought-after natural glow. You would be hard-pressed to find a brand of cosmetics that doesn’t use it today. However, its procurement is often illegal, involves child labour and is associated with health and safety risks. More films about India: https://rtd.rt.com/tags/child-labour/ This is the situation in India, where 60% of the world’s mica is produced. The impoverished population of Jharkhand State mine for mica despite it being banned. This is destroying the state’s nature reserve, but the world’s growing interest in mica-based cosmetics means production continues. For many locals it’s their only source of income. Even though there are serious occupational health hazards linked to mica production, whole families work in the industry, including very young children. Not a month goes by without somebody dying in the mines. Child slave labour is shockingly common here. Forced to work and deprived of education, these kids are left with only one option – to remain stuck forever in this dangerous and underpaid job. While many big cosmetic companies refuse to buy mica directly from illegal mines, they don’t question where the processing plants they shop at get their supplies from. Meanwhile, the vast majority of the mines in Jharkhand are illegal. RT Doc travels to Jharkhand to discover the unsightly side of mica’s glitter. Photosynthesis | #aumsum #kids #education #science #photosynthesis

05:53
Photosynthesis. Do you know how plants make their own food? Plants prepare their own food by a process called photosynthesis. Photo is the Greek word for light and synthesis is the Greek word for putting together. Plants need sunlight, carbon dioxide from air and water from soil to prepare their own food. Photosynthesis takes place in the leaves of a plant. Leaves have tiny pores called stomata through which carbon dioxide enters the plant. Plant cells contains tiny structures called chloroplasts that contain chlorophyll. Carbon dioxide and water, in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll get converted into glucose and oxygen. Oxygen then leaves the plant through the stomata. Glucose gives nourishment to the plant. The extra glucose produced is stored by the plant in the form of starch for later use. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants prepare their own food using carbon dioxide and water in the presence of sunlight.

Learn Oil and Gas with Animations

03:33
- Like our Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/oilvips - Oil and gas are generated from a source rock, organic matter buried in the depths of the earth. Once formed, they climb back towards the surface. On their way, cap rocks can impede their progress and they accumulate in reservoir rocks. Here they constitute hydrocarbon fields, which can be identified by interpreting seismic data (a sort of echography). The data is obtained with the help of a seismic ship. To confirm the interpretations of seismic data, two types of drilling gear exist. Each is adapted to a range of depth of water (down to more than 2500 meters). The platform seen here is a semi-submersible, which floats and retains its stabilised position by means of anchors fixed on the seabed. Platforms at sea are used not only for drilling but also for the production of hydrocarbons. This production consists of the separation of oil, gas and water, before the oil and gas is taken by pipeline towards a mainland terminal. Where it is impossible or too expensive to link the field to the coast by a pipeline, an FPSO ship is used (Floating Production Storage and Offloading barge). Onboard, the hydrocarbons and the water are separated. The oil is stored prior to being loaded on tankers and the gas is re-injected into the reservoir rocks. Gas from a field is taken to land through an underground gasoduct to a processing plant. There, if the gas is to be transported by sea, it is converted into liquid obtained by cooling it down to --163°C. When it arrives at the plant terminal, the liquid natural gas (LNG) is returned to its gaseous state in a re-gasification plant, before being introduced into the local gasoduct network. The LNG is stored in tanks before re-gasification. The crude oil is transported in a petroleum tanker, the capacity of which can attain 200 000 tons. It is commonly called a "super- tanker". The terminals capable of receiving such giants are few and far between. The ships used to transport the crude oil produced on an FPSO ship are of a much smaller capacity. The crude oil, before being refined, is stored in the port in the large capacity tanks. The natural gas is preserved in reservoirs (artificial or natural). It is ready to be injected by pumping into the gasoduct network for industrial and domestic use or as fuel in power-generating stations. As far as the crude oil goes, it is transported by oleoduct to the refinery. There it undergoes a number of transformations and blending. A variety of finished products are obtained (LPG, petrol, kerosene, diesel ...), or naphtha, which will be used as the basis for the composition of plastic products by complex petroleum chemistry. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Like our Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/oilvips Twitter: https://twitter.com/oilvips And Don't forget to subscribe to our channel

Your old phone is a veritable gold mine

05:09
E-waste is more than phones and laptops. There’s gold, silver, copper, and lots of other precious metals powering your electronics, and that makes for some valuable “e-waste”. And a recent study proposed that it’s now more cost-effective to dig minerals out of old electronics than out of the Earth. We crack open some old tech to see where these metals are hiding, and find out just how hard it is to reclaim them safely. Clarification: in citing India, China, and South Africa as suffering from growing e-waste problems, we didn’t mention that those countries are also producing record amounts of their own e-waste, in addition to anything being imported from other countries. E-waste from all sources is on the rise, forcing governments to figure out how to deal with it safely and efficiently. Solitary bees… like carpenter bees, digger bees and mining bees, live alone. While social bees, like the most common honey bees, live in large colonies. Each bee has a job. The important Queen bee lays lots of eggs. They live a long time. A new Queen bee is created. By feeding one young larva only special ‘Royal Jelly’. Drone bees are male, their only job is to mate the Queen. And busy worker bees are female. They use beeswax, to build the hive. Here are some hives in the wild. And here is a beekeepers hive. Can you see the honeycomb structure? Plus, they take care of the young, clean the hive, groom the Queen. And… they collect pollen and nectar from flowers. With their long tongues, they slurp up the sweet pollen and nectar. Collecting the pollen on pollen baskets on their bodies. They make Honey with the nectar and pollen. This movie is the last remaining part of footage from an old video cassette that I owned. I believe that it is still available from the Empire Mines State Park. I do not own the copyright to this movie and this is being posted here under YouTube's Guidelines for informational and teaching purposes. Then I added pictures on my own of the Malakoff State park from days gone past when mining was active in the area to the end of this movie. This is a great addition to this hydraulic mining playlist, so watch history being taught from long ago & then learn & enjoy.

Every plant needs three basic elements to grow nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Potassium (K) is important to plants because it acts as a regulator. It helps plants efficiently use water, transfer food, and protect against structural stress. So where do we get the K in fertilizer that provides all these great benefits? This short video shows the process of creating potash fertilizer, complete with unique footage of potash mines, evaporation ponds, and depictions of ancient evaporated inland oceans. How Copper is Mined and Refined: A Story Of Copper 1951 US Bureau of Mines

33:35
more at http://scitech.quickfound.net/geology_news_and_links.html "Tells the story of the mining and manufacture of copper from the crude ore to the finished product. lots of footage of giant machines, some blasting." Public domain film, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copper_extraction_techniques Copper extraction techniques refers to the methods for obtaining copper from its ores. The conversion of copper consists of a series of chemical, physical, and electrochemical processes. Methods have evolved and vary with country depending on the ore source, local environmental regulations, and other factors. As in all mining operations, the ore must usually be beneficiated (concentrated). To do this, the ore is crushed. Then it must be roasted to convert sulfides to oxides, which are smelted to produce matte. Finally, it undergoes various refining processes, the final one being electrolysis. For economic and environmental reasons, many of the byproducts of extraction are reclaimed. Sulfur dioxide gas, for example, is captured and turned into sulfuric acid — which is then used in the extraction process... History The earliest evidence of cold-hammering of native copper comes from the excavation at Çaÿonü Tepesi in eastern Anatolia. The radiocarbon date is 7250 ± 250 BCE. Among the various items considered to be votive or amulets there was one that looked like a fishhook and one like an awl. An archaeological site in southeastern Europe (Serbia) contains the oldest securely dated evidence of copper making at high temperature, from 7,000 years ago. The find in June 2010 extends the known record of copper smelting by about 500 years, and suggests that copper smelting may have been invented in separate parts of Asia and Europe at that time rather than spreading from a single source. Copper smelting technology gave rise to the Copper Age and then the Bronze Age. Concentration Most copper ores contain only a small percentage of copper metal bound up within valuable ore minerals, with the remainder of the ore being unwanted rock or gangue minerals, typically silicate minerals or oxide minerals for which there is often no value. The average grade of copper ores in the 21st century is below 0.6% copper, with a proportion of economic ore minerals (including copper) being less than 2% of the total volume of the ore rock. A key objective in the metallurgical treatment of any ore is the separation of ore minerals from gangue minerals within the rock. The first stage of any process within a metallurgical treatment circuit is accurate grinding or comminution, where the rock is crushed to produce small particles... Subsequent steps depend on the nature of the ore containing the copper. For oxide ores, a hydrometallurgical liberation process is normally undertaken, which uses the soluble nature of the ore minerals to the advantage of the metallurgical treatment plant. For sulfide ores, both secondary (supergene) and primary (hypogene), froth flotation is used to physically separate ore from gangue. For special native copper bearing ore bodies or sections of ore bodies rich in supergene native copper, this mineral can be recovered by a simple gravity circuit... Until the latter half of the 20th century, smelting sulfide ores was almost the sole means of producing copper metal from mined ores (primary copper production)... The copper is refined by electrolysis. The anodes cast from processed blister copper are placed into an aqueous solution of 3–4% copper sulfate and 10–16% sulfuric acid. Cathodes are thin rolled sheets of highly pure copper or, more commonly these days, reusable stainless steel starting sheets (as in the IsaKidd process). A potential of only 0.2–0.4 volts is required for the process to commence. At the anode, copper and less noble metals dissolve. More noble metals such as silver, gold, selenium, and tellurium settle to the bottom of the cell as anode slime, which forms a salable byproduct. Copper(II) ions migrate through the electrolyte to the cathode. At the cathode, copper metal plates out, but less noble constituents such as arsenic and zinc remain in solution unless a higher voltage is used. The reactions are: At the anode: Cu(s) → Cu2+(aq) + 2e− At the cathode: Cu2+(aq) + 2e− → Cu(s)...

Primitive Technology: Forge Blower

04:32
I invented the Bow Blower, a combination of the bow drill and forge blower to make a device that can force air into a fire while being easy to construct from commonly occurring natural materials using only primitive technology. I began by fanning a fire with a piece of bark to increase its temperature. It is this basic principle I improved on throughout the project. Next, I made a rotary fan from two pieces of bark that slot together at right angles to each other to form a simple 4 bladed paddle wheel about 20 cm in diameter and 5 cm tall. The blades of the fan were not angled and were designed only to throw air outwards away from the axle when spun. The rotor of the fan was made by splitting a stick two ways so it formed 4 prongs. The fan was then inserted into the prongs and the end lashed to hold it in place. Spinning the fan rotor back and forth between the palms of the hands fanned the fire. But only some of the wind generated by the fan reached the fire. The rest of it was blowing in other directions, effectively being wasted. So I built a fan housing from unfired clay to direct the air flow into the fire. This was basically an upturned pot with a hole in the top, a spout coming out of the side. The housing was about 25 cm wide and 8 cm tall. The hole in the top and the spout were both about 6 cm in diameter so that the air coming in roughly equalled the air coming out. The base of the fan rotor sat in a wooden socket placed in the ground to make it spin easier and the top of the rotor protruded from the hole in the top of the housing. Now when the fan spun, air entered the hole in the top of the housing and exited the spout in the side. Importantly, it doesn’t matter which way the fan spins, air always goes into the inlet and out the spout. Air is thrown out towards the walls of the housing and can only leave through the spout while the vacuum in the centre sucks new air into the housing through the inlet. A separate clay pipe called a tuyere was made to fit over the spout to direct air into the coals. This was done because the pipe that touches the fire can melt away so it’s better to make this part replaceable. Instead of making a large wheel and belt assembly to step up the speed of rotation, I opted for a 75 cm long bow. I made a frame to hold the rotor in place consisting of two stakes hammered into the ground with a socketed cross bar lashed on to hold the top of the rotor. I made bark fibre cordage and tied the end to a stick. I then looped the cord around the rotor and held the other end in the same hand holding the stick. I then pushed and pulled the bow causing the rotor to spin rapidly, forcing air into the fire. I made a simple mud furnace for the blower. Then I collected orange iron bacteria from the creek (iron oxide), mixed it with charcoal powder (carbon to reduce oxide to metal) and wood ash (flux to lower the melting point) and formed it into a cylindrical brick. I filled the furnace with charcoal, put the ore brick in and commenced firing. The ore brick melted and produced slag with tiny, 1mm sized specs of iron through it. My intent was not so much to make iron but to show that the furnace can reach a fairly high temperature using this blower. A taller furnace called a bloomery was generally used in ancient times to produce usable quantities of iron and consumed more charcoal, ore and labour. This device produces a blast of air with each stroke of the bow regardless of whether it is pushed or pulled. The bow makes it possible to operate the blower without using a complicated belt and wheel assembly used in traditional forge blowers. There is a brief pause at the end of each stroke where the fan stops to rotate in the other direction, but this is effectively no different to the intermittent blast of a double acting bellows of Europe or box bellows of Asia. The materials used (wood, bark, bark fibre and clay) are readily available on most continents. No leather, valves or precisely fitted piston gaskets are required as with other types of bellows. The cords for this device wear out often so a number of back up cords should be kept handy for quick replacement. In summary, this is an easy to make device that solves the problem of supplying forced combustion air required for high temperature furnaces and forges. Getting children out of mines in Burkina Faso | UNICEF

01:25
According to a 2010 study conducted by UNICEF and the Government of Burkina Faso, almost 20,000 children were found to be working in the artisanal gold sites surveyed. However, as data on child labor is hard to obtain, it is likely that the number is significantly higher than 100,000. Many of these children work in mines because they must help support themselves and their families. A UNICEF-supported project is helping them to get out of the mines by teaching them new vocational skills. Hindi Animation on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Process

18:34
This documentary seeks to demystify and educate local communities on the EIA process. It uses a storyline to show the importance of EIA process in relation to the community. The story revolves around a village which has been informed that a thermal power plant is proposed to be set up near their village. The villagers are initially happy that the project proponents have offered job opportunity for one person per household for the entire village; however, later they come to know that their livelihood, health and environment could be affected to a great extent if they were not vigilant and this creates fear in their minds. This fear is assuaged by Kathiresan’s son- Muthu’s friend, Jayaprasad, who explains to them about the EIA process notified by the Government, where they could participate in the public consultation process that is mandated under the EIA notification and explains about effectively participating in the public hearing. He also tells them that the project can take off only if all parameters were complied with and EC given, and if there was any problem, they could approach the NGT.

Primitive Technology: Charcoal

05:31
I made a batch of charcoal using the mound method then stored it in baskets for later use. Charcoal is a fuel that burns hotter than the wood it's made from. This is because the initial energy consuming steps of combustion have taken place while making the charcoal driving off the volatile components of the wood (such as water and sap). The result is a nearly pure carbon fuel that burns hotter than wood without smoke and with less flame. Charcoal was primarily a metallurgical fuel in ancient times but was sometimes used for cooking too. To make the charcoal the wood was broken up and stacked in to a mound with the largest pieces in the center and smaller sticks and leaves on the out side. The mound was coated in mud and a hole was left in the top while 8 smaller air holes were made around the base of the mound. A fire was kindled in the top of the mound using hot coals from the fire and the burning process began (the hot coals are being poured in the top using a small pot at 2:38). The fire burned down the inside of the mound against the updraft. I reason that this is a better way to make charcoal as the rising flames have used up the oxygen and prevent the charcoal already made above them from burning while driving out even more volatiles . I watched the air holes at the base of the mound and when the fire had burned right up to each opening I plugged them with mud. Once all 8 holes had be sealed the hole in the top of the mound was sealed with mud and the mound left to cool. From lighting the mound to closing up the holes the whole process took about 4 hours. The next day when the mound was cool to the touch (this can take about 2 days sometimes) I opened the mound. The resulting charcoal was good quality. Some wood near the air entries had burned to ash though these were only small twigs and leaves. This is the reason small brush is put on the out side of the mound, to be burned preferentially to the larger wood on the inside thus protecting the large pieces of charcoal. The charcoal that was made was hard and shiny. When broken open it had the ray structure of the wood preserved. When moving the hand through it the charcoal sounded tinny, like coral on a beach being moved by waves. These are signs of good quality. Bad charcoal is soft, breaks easily and has a muffled sound. I intend to use the charcoal to produce hotter fires than I'm able to with wood alone. From my research, a natural draft furnace using wood (a kiln) can reach a maximum of 1400 c degrees whereas a natural draft furnace using charcoal can reach 1600 c degrees. Achieving high temperatures is necessary for changing material to obtain better technology (e.g. smelting ore into metal).
