Abandoned Miner cottage
Crown land could be mined under a lease system called a Miner’s Right. A Miner’s Right granted a miner the right to build and live on the site, known as a Residency Area. The 1850s rush on the Bendigo and Heathcote goldfields was transitory. Miners were mobile, often living in tents along the outlying creeks. However, when alluvial gold finds were substantial, miners would erect small, often prefabricated, timber cottages known as miners’ cottages. These cottages were a rudimentary, cheap, and transportable form of mass housing. Companies formed in the 1860s with the expansion of deep reef quartz gold mines in Bendigo. Cheap labour was provided by gangs who worked in ‘tribute’ teams. These miners clustered their cottages around the wealthy mines where they worked. The miners of Cornish and German origin often also used their traditional building skills to build mud brick and stone cottages. Miners’ cottages are the historic markers of the gold mine sites that were once scattered throughout the Bendigo goldfields. Miners’ cottages along with the grander homes of mine managers, engineers and magnates were the start of permanent settlement in this region. Miners’ cottages are largely unadorned, single storey and consist of a basic rectangular tent-like each approximately 3-4 metres by 6-9 metres. The Miners’ Cottage style was also used by early residents in other trades. #abandonedhouse #abandoned #abandonedcottage #abandonedminerscottage
Gold 'mother lode' worth $15 million unearthed in Western Australia
Underground miners in outback Western Australia have unearthed rare gold specimens which geologists are calling a "once-in-a-lifetime discovery". Workers at the Beta Hunt mine near the small town of Kambalda, 630 kilometres east of Perth, have brought more than $15 million worth of gold specimens to the surface in just four days. The gold-encrusted rocks were found about 500 metres below the surface in an area just three metres wide and three metres high. Interesting to Know. Mining and production of platinum metals
High cost of platinum and other platinum group metals can be explained by their high practical value and the costly and complicated production process. Platinum, iridium and palladium can be found in the form of nuggets, albeit very seldom. Osmium, rhodium and ruthenium, on the other hand, are never found in the bowels of the Earth in their pure form. Just like many other metals, platinoids are produced in three stages: ore mining, ore processing and ore refining, which is essentially a chemical purification of the noble metals from other elements.

Platinum Mine Crowdfunding Opportunity
Extensive Shallow Underground Operations at a Low-Cost of Entry. With majority ownership interest in multiple mining operations in South Africa, Platinum 1 Exploration Corp. (“P1EC”) has secured rights to mine available surface deposits of platinum rich ore, and to develop additional new mines to extract significant platinum from the world’s largest reserves, within the platinum-rich Bushveld Igneous Complex. Conservative projections estimate yields as much as 1,000,000 ounces of platinum. Even with platinum currently selling at depressed prices (43% of its historical high), P1EC is still poised to produce significant returns due to shallow, easily accessible projects containing significant grades of platinum, and associated low cost production. Today, the Company has two platinum mining projects in various stages ranging from prospecting to production ready. Due to relatively low initial startup costs for the initial project, the Company believes it can be cash flow positive within six to twelve months from the start of operations.

Glitter Mine up for review
BLM Arizona Strip seeking public input on Glitter Mine ST. GEORGE, Utah - + Video – The lease holder of a popular surface mine located in the Arizona Strip south of St. George is asking the public to respect his mining claim. Russell Feller of Feller Stone of Veyo, Utah, has requested from the BLM an Occupancy concurrence. If granted, the request would allow him to place signs and possibly even fence off the active mine site to prevent unauthorized collecting of minerals. The popular site holds a valuable unusual mineral called selenite. It’s referred to by Feller as “Utah Ice” and is known for it’s glittery sheen. Feller has actively mined and leased the claim for 25 years. The BLM Arizona Strip Field Office will accept public input on the application until December 6, 2017. World's Deepest Mine - Gold Alchemy
South Africa's TauTona mine, real life alchemy, and Halicephalobus Mephisto. Footage from the 2012 documentary, "Down to the Earth's Core". We have travelled into space and looked deep into the universe's depths, but the world beneath our feet remains unexplored and unseen. Now, that's about to change. For the first time in one epic unbroken shot, we embark on an impossible mission - using spectacular computer generated imagery to smash through three thousand miles of solid rock, and venture from our world into the underworld and on to the core of the Earth itself. It's a journey fraught with danger. One thousand feet down we find ourselves inside one of the planet's most volatile places - the San Andreas Fault. Caught between two huge rock slabs, we watch as stress builds and then releases. It unleashes an earthquake and blasts us on towards rivers of molten rock, explosive volcanoes, tears in the Earth's crust and giant tornadoes of liquid metal. But for every danger, there are wonders beyond imagination. Four hundred feet below the surface, a three hundred million year old fossilized forest, with every leaf and every piece of bark perfectly preserved. At one thousand feet down we enter a cave of giant crystals, glistening in deadly 122 degree heat. More than two miles underground we find buried treasure - gold and gems. Deeper still there are valuable resources - salt, oil, coal and iron. And over one hundred miles down we see the sparkling beauty of diamonds. As we descend we piece together our planet's extraordinary story. We rewind time to discover how prehistoric forests became modern-day fuel. 1700 feet down a layer of rock reveals the extraordinary story of the dinosaurs' cataclysmic death. We watch stalactites form and gold grow before our eyes. The deeper we travel into the underworld the more we understand our world above the surface. A bigger picture takes shape - a cycle of destruction and creation, driven by the core that sustains our dynamic planet and makes the Earth the only planet with life in a seemingly lifeless universe. Until, finally, three thousand miles down, we reach the core. Inside it lie the secrets of life as we know it - the magnetic force field that protects life on Earth from the sun's deadly rays, the ancient heat source that keeps our planet alive. Down to the Earth's Core brings the latest science together with breathtaking computer generated imagery. The result is an unmissable journey into an extraordinary world - full of dangers, wonders and secrets. And it's all down there, beneath our feet, right now waiting to be discovered.

What is Deep Sea Mining? A web series. Episode 1: Tools for Ocean Literacy
Inhabitants is an online video for exploratory video and documentary reporting. Follow us: Website: http://inhabitants-tv.org/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/inhabitantstv/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt0fB6C18nwzRwdudiC8sGg What is Deep Sea Mining? is a five episode webseries dedicated to the topic of deep sea mining, a new frontier of resource extraction at the bottom of the ocean, set to begin in the next few years. Deep sea mining will occur mainly in areas rich in polymetallic nodules, in seamounts, and in hydrothermal vents. Mining companies are already leasing areas in national and international waters in order to extract minerals and metals such as manganese, cobalt, gold, copper, iron, and other rare earth elements from the seabed. Main sites targeted for future exploration are the mid-atlantic ridge and the Clarion Clipperton Zone (Pacific ocean) in international waters, as well as the islands of Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Tonga, New Zealand, Japan, and the Portuguese Azores archipelago. Yet, potential impacts on deep sea ecosystems are yet to be assessed by the scientific community, and local communities are not being consulted. The prospects of this new, experimental form of mining are re-actualizing a colonial, frontier mentality and redefining extractivist economies for the twenty-first century. This webseries addresses different issues related to this process, from resource politics to ocean governance by international bodies, prompting today’s shift towards a "blue economy" but also efforts to defend sustained ocean literacy when the deep ocean, its species, and resources remain largely unmapped and unstudied. Episode 1: Tools for Ocean Literacy is a cartographical survey of technologies that have contributed to ocean literacy and seabed mapping. Structured around a single shot along a vertical axis, the episode inquires about deep sea mining and the types of geologic formations where it is set to occur, particularly hydrothermal vents. Understanding the process of deep sea mining demands not only a temporal investigation – its main dates, legal, and corporate landmarks, and scientific breakthroughs – but also a spatial axis connecting the seafloor to outer space cartographic technologies. After all, we know less about the ocean depths than about the universe beyond this blue planet. What is Deep Sea Mining? is developed in collaboration with Margarida Mendes, curator and activist from Lisbon, Portugal, and founding member of Oceano Livre environmental movement against deep sea mining. It was commissioned and funded by TBA21 - Academy and premiered at the 2018 New Museum Triennial: Songs for Sabotage. Revolution Metals NSW Gold at Investorium.tv Presentation April 2014
Tim Mckinnon presents at Investorium.tv on behalf of Revolution Metals, April 28 2014 from Sydney Sky Tower to Sydney's Capital Market Participants. Gold was originally discovered in the Dalmorton district during the 1860's and mining continued throughout a widespread area in alluvials and over one hundred reefs to shallow depth until 1942, when all mining activities ceased. The period of greatest reef-mining activity occurred between 1871 and 1900 when gold grades of up to 54 ounces to the ton were mined selectively from quartz reefs. Most of the known reefs have been located by a combination of field work and historical research. Documentation of mining activities is poor as many of the official records were destroyed by fire at Dalmorton, however extensive research of historical records has provided information on mining operations associated with eighty five of the principal reefs, or groups of reefs. Most of the reefs contained varying quantities of sulphides (pyrite, arsenopyrite and galena) near to and below the water-table, usually causing difficulties in gold recovery at depth. Metallurgical treatment methods in common use today overcome these difficulties. The known reefs generally strike over distances of 100 to 1000 metres and at least nineteen have widths in excess of one metre: the deepest shafts in the district were at the Garden Hill (43m), Golden Spur (41m) and Union (40m) reefs, however most reefs were worked to depths of less than 20 metres. After 1942, when the Mount Remarkable mine closed, except for gold panning in creeks by prospectors, no activities were conducted in the district until 1981, when a programme involving regional inspection, churn drilling, orientation geochemical soil sampling and rock sampling was initiated by the Little River Gold Company. Concurrent with this work, extensive historical research of old records was conducted. Significant exploration from 1981 to 1985 was carried out by the Little River Gold Company, which included Joint Venture arrangements with two large companies, BP and Getty Minerals. The search for a resource of over one million ounces of Gold in the area was abandoned prior to a full exploration of the area. An area known as the "Pine Creek Lode" was identified as being the most attractive resource containing 232,000 tonnes of ore at 3.27 g/t. The Pine Creek Lode differed from the surrounding hydrothermal quartz reefs in that it consisted of ironstone. Drilling was not completed on the deposit, as only some sections of the estimated 3,000 metre strike were evaluated. The deposit was considered as sub-economic in the 1980's with the price of Gold less than $300 per ounce, and work discontinued. Subsequently, the area was declared a National Park and all mining activities were precluded, being part of the Guy Fawkes National Park. Recently, the Dalmorton area of the park was reclassified as a State Conservation Area (SCA) and was recognised to contain minerals of significance, allowing mining and exploration activities to resume. An area of 36 square kilometres is currently under an Exploration License to resume the evaluation of the Mt Remarkable gold bearing quartz veins and the Pine Creek Lode.

Hopeless S.African mining firms take to mechanization
A series of violent strikes in recent years, a fall in commodity prices and mines having to dig deeper into depleted ore bodies to reach the metals are forcing South Africa's mining industry to rethink the way it does business with many taking to the costly path of mechanization in the hope that it will bring back the days of abundant profits. The Culverwell Mine -Delamar District, Lincoln County, Nevada
The Culverwell Mineral property is an established gold and silver mine located in Lincoln County, Nevada. The mine has limited documentation of production but shows average values of 1.44 oz/T AU and 2.31 oz/T AG. The mine was located by Mr. Charles Culverwell and Mr. William Culverwell in 1899. The mine was re-located by two miners in the resurgence of 1932 and documented production of 5 tons of ore containing 7.2 ounces of gold and 11.5 ounces of Silver. Waste Dumps at the mine were sampled and showed calcite, quartz, pyrites, raw gold, some silver and iron with likely tungsten and or molybdenum. The accessible workings in the mine consist of a haulage tunnel with some short offshoots and a stoped room where a gold ore body appears to have impacted a dike. There is a small headframe a winze of approximately 30’. At the bottom of this winze, there is an apparent drift cutting back on the same ore deposit as above. The lower level was not mapped or examined but it said to intersect with the workings of the upper two adits through a series of raises and other drifts. This information is unverified. In addition to the lower levels, also noted was a potential raise near the headframe, the passageway was extremely narrow and was likely an ore chute at one time, however, it is possible to attempt access to upper levels through this raise. The mine is noted for production of wire gold in iron and on quartz. Surveyors did not witness any wire gold, however, surveyors reported multiple instances of small gold deposition in the short offshoots of the haulage tunnel and some high-grade gold samples were removed from the main working room/stope. 28 lbs. of high-grade gold ores were sent for assay and returned a value of 22.9 oz/T in AU with only trace silver. This indicates that the gold deposits, when kept in a pure form have very little silver or other contaminates and could be crushed and washed as a way of processing with no chemicals needed. It also indicates that working specifically on the veins which are showing gold deposition within the mine would be the most lucrative plan for a small miner or mining company. Gold Prospecting moonlight
At this location the second largest nugget ever discovered in New Zealand was turfed up in 1917 by prospectors who were re-working old tailings from the 1860's gold-rush to Moonlight Creek. The 87.5 ounce nugget was named the 'Victory'. George Moonlight moved from the Victorian Goldfields (Australia) to New Zealand, then caught a steamer to the west coast of the South Island. George travelled from one gold rush to another, sometimes striking good gold, often not. His remains were found on the 16 September 1884 at Hope Bush (Cow Creek) having gone missing the year before on a lone prospecting trip, and is buried at the Nelson cemetery. Gold was discovered at a site, about 40 kilometres north-east of Greymouth, by prospectors called Cabet (surname) and 'Panama Bill', in 1868. They decided to name the new goldfield after George Moonlight. The creek and neighbouring terraces contained coarse dark nuggetty gold, sometimes impregnated with rose quartz (or rose tinted quartz). Many large nuggets have been found historically at the site. These include W.H. Jones 52 oz, George Fox 78 oz, William Coulter (known as Santa Anna) 47 oz, Mitchell and Russell (surnames) 79 oz, 60 oz, 40 oz, 2 x 33 oz, 22.50 oz and 20 oz, 'Flash' Barry (named after his spending spree in Melbourne from gold finds in the Victorian goldfields) 37 oz, Young and party several from 37 oz to 23 oz, Alfred Bliss 37 oz, Thomas Wood 36 oz, and much more that goes unrecorded. Retired geologist Jock Braithwaite when interviewed in part about Moonlight Creek, gives a fine definition of a nugget: ' A nugget is if you drop it in the dish, and it goes ding'. The site is well known amongst gold fossickers, lured by the romantic name, and the improbable promises of riches, from the many nuggets found here in the past. Gold prospecting requires a permit, but not in the seventeen public fossicking sites on the South Island (always check the Department of Mines website for the most up to date information). Prosecutions for mining without a permit do occur, as a property owner near the entrance of the Moonlight Road found in 2016. Non motorised fossicking is allowed, in designated fossicking sites, including panning dishes, and small scale sluicing. The thought here is families will come, with children given the opportunity to pan for gold in the creek, finding a few specks, then going home happy having spent the day in the beautiful New Zealand outdoors. Not everyone buys into this. Online forums note conflicts with people behaving badly, including a local rock club who arrived, and were threatened by a man clearing trees. Gold does funny things to people, and does not always bring out the best in human nature. Small nuggets have been reportedly found up to recent times. The best time to go is spring and early summer, after the winter floods have potentially washed gold nuggets to the surface. The best time to go to avoid people is mid-winter, when there is knee deep mud, constant drizzling rain, and sub-zero temperatures. The entrance road to Moonlight Creek can be found at a location called Atarau, on the main road on the northern side of the Grey River. Where the road turns sharply is a pull-out area with prominent 'Moonlight' sign, and minor gold mining equipment. The fossicking site is via a narrow gravel road heading north from here into the thickly forested hills for 10 kilometres (sometimes used by logging trucks), to a place now known as Anderson's Flat. The fossicking area covers 59 768 ha, beginning 1.32 kilometres above the bridge crossing. A gold location near Queenstown is also called Moonlight Creek. Prospectors rushed to the site after the 1868 find, many described as 'hatters', a gold mining term for an elderly prospector having gone slightly mad in the head from gold fever. The focus was on a gutter running parallel to the creek, and disappearing into a terrace. Much tunnelling into the terrace failed to locate the gutter extension. There were reefs at Moonlight Creek, but it appears not enough for large company involvement. Several pegged claims, and a couple started work, but amounted to little. The creek was pegged by dredging companies with a similar result. An 1875 report states by this stage many had left, with one store remaining. Coarse gold was also found at Caledonian Creek, 5 miles away: Baxter Creek for fine gold; and Garden Gully, all seeing small numbers of miners around the same time as the Moonlight Creek rush. Long (like all day) difficult (steep, muddy, wet etc) but beautiful walks and mountain bike trails eg. Croesus Track, can be taken through the lush temperate rainforest to the Garden Gully site, containing swing bridges, a 1905 era stamp battery, mining relics, and tin gold miner huts.

EPISODE 4: A dusk visit to the abandoned Tangier Gold Mine site, which had been active under many companies for decades. We are a group of Abandoned Mine explorers in Nova Scotia, who will be bringing you highlights of our underground adventures. (MORE INFO BELOW) Abandoned Mine Hunting is somewhat of a cross between the hobby of urban exploration, caving (spelunking), and history enthusiast. If this is your kind of thing, be sure to subscribe so you will always be informed of each new episode. IF YOU KNOW OF AN ABANDONED MINE, we'd love to hear from you. Send a private message. We may just come and do an explore and episode featuring your site ! Future episodes will involve everything from the smallest discoveries, to deep underground explores. ** Please be sure to watch in 720p60 HD ** We shoot and publish in 60 frames per second, taking advantage of YouTube's new 720p60 offering. SPECIAL NOTE: While this type of exploration is almost always kilometers back in deep forest, it cannot always be guaranteed that the land we are hiking is public (Crown). These forgotten old mines/claims are almost always over 100 years old. It is also common that most mine workings have some kind of natural cave-in covering their mouth, after nearly a century of erosion. So some explores may involve preparation of clearing that cave-in, and/or dealing with letting spring water (flooding) out of the adits. These facts, along with the inherent danger of abandoned mines, force us to remain anonymous. We are responsible for our own risks & actions (not yours), but be clear we are not promoting this activity. Only showing you what we do. As with any typical Urban Exploration type channel, our faces and commentary will always be masked. If you are seeing an Episode, it means we are already month(s) finished with that site and never going back. The delay is intentional, as nothing shown here will be in realtime. It cannot be stressed enough - abandoned mines can pose a ton of lethal threats. *We are not kids looking for kicks* Keep in mind that our group is made up of responsible adults, each with specific skills, and cross-Canada experience with over 75+ mine walks. Most 10 times larger and deeper than will ever be found in Nova Scotia! Specific research is always done beforehand. Required equipment and backups are a must. While it is indeed possible to safely spelunk an abandoned mine, DO NOT ENTER A MINE without being experienced, or going with an experienced explorer. If you don't know what you're doing, STAY OUT STAY ALIVE is the best policy.

The Potosi Mine: Going Deep Inside Nevada's Oldest Lode Mine
We hiked up to the Potosi Mine to check out Nevada's oldest lode mine. The Potosi Mine was discovered in the mid-1800s and was owned by various companies until about 1930. The mine was mainly a silver mine, but other minerals were also mined there including zinc. We explored nearly all of this extensive, six-level abandoned mine.

Bendigo is a city in Victoria, Australia, located very close to the geographical centre of the state and approximately 150 kilometres north west of the state capital, Melbourne. Bendigo has an urban population of 82,794 making it the fourth largest inland city in Australia and fourth most populous city in the state. It is the administrative centre for the City of Greater Bendigo which encompasses both the urban area and outlying towns spanning an area of approximately 3,000 square kilometres and over 111,000 people. The discovery of gold in the soils of Bendigo during the 1850s made it one of the most significant Victorian era boomtowns in Australia. News of the finds intensified the Victorian gold rush bringing an influx of migrants to the city from around the world within a year and transforming it from a sheep station to a major settlement in the newly proclaimed Colony of Victoria. Once the alluvial gold had been mined out, mining companies were formed to exploit the rich underground quartz reef gold. Since 1851 about 25 million ounces of gold have been extracted from Bendigo's goldmines, making it the highest producing goldfield in Australia in the 19th century and the largest gold mining economy in eastern Australia. It is also notable for its Victorian architectural heritage. The city took its name from the Bendigo Creek and its residents from the earliest days of the goldrush have been called "Bendigonians". AND I THOUGHT A 20th CENTURY CANADIAN 2,OOO OPT DIAMOND CORE SAMPLE WAS HIGH. A SENIOR INVESTOR SAID HE WOULD NOT BELIEVE IT EVEN IF HE SAW IT, EVEN THOUGH I SHOWED IT TO HIM IN PRINT IN THE HEMLO BOOK BY MATTHEW HART. "LOOK FOR GOLD WHERE GOLD WAS FOUND" CAUTIONED ME ABOUT REPORTING SUCH INFORMATION. WELL THERE ARE NOW 5 OTHER WITNESSES THAT SUCH GRADES ARE NOT RELEGATED TO ONLY HISTORIC LEGENDS FROM THE 1800S GOLD RUSHES. PAGE 117, PARAGRAPH 3: "The gold in the core in the photograph on Frank Lang's wall, from one of his Quebec properties, grades 3677.8 ounces of gold per ton." PARAGRAPH 5: "Considerable amounts of free gold appear in the diamond drill core from Hole No. 29 of D'Or Val Mines Ltd.'s Beacon Property. While it assayed at 3677.8 ounces of gold per ton, this spectacular sample is not considered representative of overall grade." NEXT PAGE: "But you never know what's down there, do you? You never know until you drill. ... In quartz, the gold is in veins. You could miss that by a quarter of millimeter, you'd never find it. How many more are there, that's all I ask. How much gold, just as rich as that, is down there?" - Frank Lang, legendary mining promoter, Hughes-Lang Group, downtown Vancouver BC Canada. Quotes from book: "Golden Giant: Hemlo and the Rush for Canada's Gold" By Matthew Hart, 1945- Published by Douglas & McIntyre, (c) 1985, 176 pages ISBN 0888944675, 9780888944672 http://www.amazon.com/Golden-giant-Hemlo-rush-Canadas/dp/0888944675/ref=sr_11_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1231795050&sr=11-1 My book is signed by Schiralli with message and is a textbook. The 14,827 OPT-Au sample did hand-weigh approx 3 times more, than if solid steel. 16,000 OPT is half gold ore if considering 32,000 ounces per ton (OPT). The president of Constantine Metal Resources Ltd, a geologist, did say specific gravity testing was done on the 16,969 OPT specimen - the results indicated it breached 17,000 OPT but held to a lower figure so as to allow for a small percentage variance by another heavy metal, so the reported gold grade was toned down to 16,969 of oz/ton. Apparently they will never mill those samples.

The Carl Riek Mine - Rock Hill District, Esmeralda County, Nevada
The Carl Riek Mine is the culmination of the life work carried out by Mr. Carl Riek of Coaldale, Nevada. Mr. Riek is a notable seller of very fine turquoise and he located many deposits in the state of Nevada. The mine is a series of adits, shafts and drift workings that open up various veins of copper and gold deposits. The veins of turquoise with gold are small, usually less than 2 inches but run for hundreds of feet with some pockets of material as large as 10 inches. The adit workings are extremely narrow, less than two feet in width in some sections, but open into stope workings where the turquoise has been mined. These narrow drift workings are thought to be the original workings that Mr. Riek located in the early 1900s. There are many visible veins of turquoise still in the workings which indicates the original deposits were much larger to disregard the smaller veins. Shafts and some prospects are found around the claim. These are later (post-1900) workings and most have square set timbers in the shafts. The prospects are from 10 to 20 feet in depth and some appear to have good development potential. There is excellent access to the primary mine camp and workings, however there is a hike required to access the other workings and drifts that are across the claim. A good high clearance 2WD vehicle will get most to the site without issue. Surveyors recovered many specimens from the claim. Some samples contained native gold in narrow veinlets. There was very little turquoise, or copper found in the waste dumps, but turquoise was seen in the mine workings. The site is extremely remote and often overshadowed by the monstrous Candelaria mine camp and workings west of the Carl Riek Mine. With that in mind, there are three mining companies who have held claims in the general area since 1973 working on development of gold mines. Visit us at: goldrushexpeditions.com for more mining properties.
Thieves Steal Display Rock From Canberra's National Rock Garden
Thieves in Australia recently swiped a massive rock from Canberra's National Rock Garden. Rocks and boulders aren't typically associated with having a lot of monetary value. Thieves in Australia apparently disagree with that and recently swiped a massive rock from Canberra's National Rock Garden. The multicolored quartz rock weighs about three quarters of a ton. It was donated to the garden by a mining company to reflect Victoria's gold rush history. The yet to be captured suspects would have required heavy machinery like a crane to lift the rock. The quartz piece had been placed on top of a larger rock and secured with pins. Authorities aren't quite sure why the exhibit was targeted, but some suspect tiny flecks of gold inside the rock may have attracted the thieves. Said the Rock Garden's chairman Brad Pillans "They've trucked the rock away. They may well try to crush it up and extract the gold. The silly thing is they've caused thousands of dollars of damage to the exhibition and taken a rock which will be very difficult to replace, all for perhaps $200 worth of gold." Pillans has asked locals to keep an eye out for the rock and immediately alert authorities if it is spotted.

Exploring Tunnel #2 at the Hecla Mine
Spent an afternoon exploring two tunnels at the Hecla Mine. Both tunnels led to extensive, multi-level workings. These are old mines dating back to the late 1800s. Some of these mines were re-worked in more recent years due to some modern-looking equipment being left at the site. #ExploringAbandonedMines #MineExploring #AbandonedMines #UndergroundExploration
Can a Coin Detector Find Gold Nuggets?
I own a Makro Racer coin & relic detector, its not a cheap unit at around $900 when it was new and has been fantastic to use for coins and relics. But what about gold? It has an all metal setting, decent ground discrimination and tracking, threshold adjustment, grain ajustment and it has found some of the smallest bits of metal I've ever dug! Because I live some 3 hours from the closest 'nugget' areas I decided to test an average sized picker from my collection. And whilst some fiddling with the settings may improve the performance I get from it, at just 8.5Khz I'm thoroughly impressed with what it could do! I am now looking forward to purchasing the Makro Gold Racer, designed at 55Khz to find tiny gold!

Exploring The Walker Mine: Part 1 - Punching Into The Darkness
The primary focus of this mine was the extraction of tungsten ore in the form of scheelite and the earliest records of activity I found date back to 1950. However, we encountered several features inside the mine that left us with the impression that the adits may have run through older workings in a couple of areas and, indeed, the whole area is riddled with mines, which makes this idea plausible. This mine was abandoned after the U.S. Government stopped subsidizing the price of tungsten. Significant quantities of beryllium were discovered at this site, which generated interest and some ambitious proposals, but it does not seem that any work of significance has been done since the closure forced by the falling tungsten prices.

950 gold miners trapped underground in South Africa February 01 2018 This Day in History
950 gold miners trapped underground in South Africa February 01 2018 This Day in History About 950 gold miners were stuck underground in South Africa on this day in 2018 after a power cut, the mine's owner said, though the workers were not reported to be in immediate danger. The Sibanye-Stillwater mining company said a massive power outage caused by a storm had prevented lifts from bringing the night shift to the surface at the Beatrix gold mine, in the small town of Theunissen near the city of Welkom. The depth where the miners were trapped was uncertain, but the mine has 23 levels, going down to about 1,000 metres (3280 feet) below ground. One cable was restored during the day and 272 workers were rescued, but 955 remained trapped by early evening, the company said. They have been underground for over 24 hours and nervous family members patiently gathered along the road to the shaft, kept a distance by security guards. A generator at the shaft had started working. Earlier Wellsted had said that engineers were struggling with a software fault to get emergency generators to operate and re-start the lifts following the storm. August 2017 five mineworkers died after sections of a gold mine collapsed outside Johannesburg. The country possesses rich mineral reserves and has some of the world's deepest gold mines. Gold was for many decades the backbone of South Africa's economy, but production has declined sharply due to depletion of reserves.
O gold mining for the fans
O gold mining for the fans In nature, gold is usually found in the form of the metal. There are two ways of its concentration. This primary (ore, root) or secondary deposits (placer), formed by the collapse of ore (indigenous) deposits. Gold placers are usually cleaner ore and has a higher sample. Separate metal separation is considered nuggets.
Pele's revised preliminary economic assessment on the advancement of Eco Ridge
September 23, 2013 -- Tracy Weslosky, Publisher of InvestorIntel interviews Al Shefsky, President and CEO of Pele Mountain Resources Inc. (TSXV: GEM | OTCQX: GOLDF) and discusses Pele Mountain's competitive advantages at the company's flagship Eco Ridge Mine Rare Earth and Uranium Project, yttrium and other critical rare earths, and Pele's updated NI 43-101 Resource Estimate and Preliminary Economic Assessment. Pele Mountain is focused on the sustainable development of Eco Ridge. Eco Ridge is located in Elliot Lake, the former "uranium mining capital of the world" and the only Canadian mining camp to have ever achieved commercial rare earth production. Elliot Lake was historically the major source of heavy rare earth production in North America. With well-understood geology and mineralogy, excellent regional infrastructure, and strong local support, Eco Ridge is an ideal location for the development of a safe, secure, and reliable long-term supply of uranium, critical rare earths and scandium. Tracy starts: Can you give our audience an overview on the Pele Mountain competitive advantage? Al: Elliot Lake is an established and proven mining camp for both uranium and rare earths. It's a strong advantage to be working in a proven mining camp. Because there were 12 big mines there historically, we have all the requisite infrastructure — the roads, power, the people, gas lines, deep-water ports, airport, rail — you name it, it's already there. Of course that's a strong advantage in terms of keeping capital costs down and keeping the timelines short to actually getting up and running. Tracy: Isn't your number-one competitive advantage that you have both uranium and rare earths? Al: That's a good point. The diversification in revenue sources is a strong competitive advantage. In fact, with the recent 43-101 resource update we put out with expanded higher grade zones, we're seeing in the first 5 years of mine life, that uranium revenues will more than offset all of the operating costs, really reducing the risk for the rare earth side of the operation. Beyond that, uranium revenues continue to offset the vast majority of the operating costs. Tracy: You recently put out a resource update, which you just referenced. Can you tell our audience what it actually means? Al: It's a big deposit. In Elliot Lake there were 12 big mines historically that were virtually the same deposit being mined — big quartz pebble conglomerate reefs. On our project at Eco Ridge, it goes for five kilometers along strike; it's been drilled down dip for 4 kilometers and it's basically that whole area. The deposit is very consistent in thickness and grade. When we did the 43-101 resource update recently, we see an expansion in the uranium and rare earth resources and a very big expansion in the higher-grade core zone, which we'll be mining early in the mine life — and that will have a big impact on the project economics. Tracy: We've had Jack Lifton and Professor Dudley Kingsnorth talk about the rare earths that are in demand. And if I've read your corporate presentation properly, you have many of them -- like yttrium. Could you kind of give InvestorIntel viewers an overview on the rare earths that you have? Al: At Elliot Lake, they produced 35% of the global supply of yttrium historically, in the late 1980s. It's a big part of it and the yttrium's associated with the uranium minerals, so we get excellent extraction as well. We have all of the critical rare earths at Eco Ridge and that will account for the vast majority of the revenue that comes in from the rare earths side of the project. Tracy: I don't think that many people actually understand that Elliot Lake has historically produced rare earths. Al: That's right, it's the only mining camp in Canada that has commercially produced rare earths. And it was the major source of heavy rare earths for all of North America. So it's got this track record, it's all been done before and it gives us a strong competitive advantage moving forward. We're working with guys who actually did the processing in the past; SNC-Lavalin has a processing engineer who operated the rare earth recovery plant. As a result, we have that unique skill set working on the project and that's going to help us advancing through licensing and to operations. Tracy: So what's next for Pele Mountain? Al: Well, we've made a lot of progress to get to this point. We've done a 43-101 Preliminary Economic Assessment that looks very positive, with a net present value of over $1 billion. The next step is to move into licensing and feasibility. We've got a little bit more process optimization work on the go (that will be followed by a pilot plant operation). The critical timeline or the critical path is licensing, with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, to get a license to build this mine. South Africa allows Silicosis class action against Gold firms
Up to half a million gold miners are now entitled to pursue multi-million-dollar class action against mining companies. The miners can sue about 30 companies for damages after suffering from silicosis contracted while working in dangerous underground conditions over the past decades. The defendants include mining giants Anglo American, AngloGold Ashanti and Gold Fields. Silicosis is an incurable disease that damages the lungs. It is caused by inhalation of silica dust while drilling rocks. The companies issued a statement saying they were studying the court's decision. Vancouver, BC, Canada January 26, 2010 Miranda Gold Corp. (Miranda) (TSX-V: MAD) reports results from a three hole, 1,137 ft (346.6 m) core drilling program at Red Canyon, a sediment-hosted gold project in Eureka County, Nevada. Mirandas exploration funding partner, Montezuma Mines Inc. (Montezuma), a wholly owned subsidiary of CMQ Resources Inc., is the first company to test the project with core drilling in over two decades of historical exploration. Drill holes MR09-05C and MR09-06C were designed to follow-up known gold mineralization at Red Canyons Ice prospect and as such are not new discovery holes. MR09-05C intersected 119 ft of 0.152 oz Au/t (36.28 m of 5.25 g Au/t). This result verified the results in KR-001, a reverse circulation hole which intersected 95 ft of 0.117 oz Au/t from 20 to 115 ft (29.0 m of 4.012 g Au/t from 6.1 to 35.1 m), but with 30% higher grade and 25% greater thickness. MR09-06C intersected 60 ft of 0.10 oz Au/t (18.29 m of 3.43 g Au/t). MR09-04C had no significant assays. All drill results are summarized below and are based on a 0.010 oz Au/t (0.343 g Au/t) cutoff and represent drill indicated thicknesses. For more information please visit www.mirandagold.com
