GRATEFUL DEAD - TRUCKIN' & PLAYING IN THE BAND - LIVE 1972

With no burning desire for fame or fortune, the Dead were driven instead by a need to stand on a stage and play their music, irrespective of what anyone else thought. Are all you artists with the huge ego's listening ?

The Grateful Dead - Ripple (Studio Version)

04:14
Link to the picture: http://thingstolookathigh.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/alice-in-wonderland-trippy.png Robert Hunter, wrote this song in 1970 in London in the same afternoon he wrote "Brokedown Palace" and "To Lay Me Down" (reputedly also drinking an entire bottle of retsina in the process). The song debuted August 18, 1970 at Fillmore West in San Francisco. Like many folk songs, "Ripple" addresses itself as a song and an instrument of the performers' emotional expression. Several lines throughout the song echo the 23rd Psalm of the Bible. Trip hard and good, motherfuckers.

Grateful Dead - Sugar Magnolia - 1972-08-27 - Veneta, OR (Live - SBD - Best Ever)

10:46
Sugar Magnolia blossom's blooming Head's all empty and I don't care Saw my baby down by the river Knew she'd have to come up soon for air Sweet blossom come on under the willow We can have high times if you'll abide We can discover the wonders of nature Rolling in the rushes down by the riverside She's got everything delightful She's got everything I need Takes the wheel when I'm seeing double Pays my ticket when I speed She come skimming through rays of violet She can wade in a drop of dew She don't come and I don't follow Waits backstage while I sing to you She can dance a Cajun rhythm Jump like a Willy's in four wheel drive She's a summer love in the spring, fall and winter She can make happy any man alive Sugar magnolia Ringing that blue bell Caught up in sunlight Come on out singing I'll walk you in the sunshine Come on honey, come along with me She's got everything delightful She's got everything I need A breeze in the pines in the summer night moonlight Crazy in the sunlight yes indeed Sometimes when the cuckoo's crying When the moon is halfway down Sometimes when the night is dying I take me out and I wander round I wander round Sunshine daydream Walking through the tall trees Going where the wind goes Blooming like a red rose Breathing more freely Light out singing I'll walk you in the morning sunshine Sunshine daydream Walk you in the sunshine

"Ripple" w/Lyrics- The Grateful Dead

04:22
From their 1970 album "American Beauty". "Ripple" features the brilliant mandolin playing of Jerry Garcia's friend, David Grisman. The sons lyrics were written by Robert Hunter and evoke a certain Spiritual quality about the song and also showcases the bands outstanding folk country style that they could exhibit.

Grateful Dead - Playing in the Band - 11-15-1972 Civic Center Music Hall - Oklamhoma City

Grateful Dead play an amazing PITB in Civic Center Music Hall Oklamhoma City. There are, obviously, many golden Playing in the Band's throughout the years, this, however, is in my top five, I cannot think of any other two words to describe it other than Just Amazing. The soundtrack has been tweeked slightly using Logic. The rest of this incredible show can be streamed to your ears here : http://www.archive.org/details/gd1972-11-15.sbd.miller.110631.flac16 I do not claim any ownership over the music or images used in the video, nor do intend to make financial gain from its creation.

Sunshine Daydream - Promised Land

05:43
Sunshine Daydream is an unreleased movie shot at the Grateful Dead's 1972 Veneta, Oregon concert to benefit the Springfield Creamery in nearby Springfield, Oregon. The film is sometimes shown at small film festivals, and bootleg recordings of it have circulated on VHS and DVD and as digital downloads. The concert, recorded on August 27, 1972, was filmed using four 16 mm cameras, in the woods of the Oregon Coast Range foothills, on the grounds of the Oregon Country Fair. Originally even more cameras had been planned, under an ambitious scheme: "The plot was to develop a signature visual style of representing the band: a camera for each of the 16 channels (at least!) emphasizing the visual kinetics of the music making itself as well as the enormous open communication within the band." Ken Kesey and old cohort Ken Babbs emceed the concert. The Dead played all afternoon and into the dark after an opening set by the New Riders of the Purple Sage. The title of the film is taken from the coda section of the Dead song "Sugar Magnolia".

Grateful Dead - Morning Dew - Europe '72

11:42
From May 26, 1972 at Lyceum Theatre, London, found in the album Europe '72, Disc 2 Walk me out in the morning dew my honey, Walk me out in the morning dew today. I can't walk you out in the morning dew my honey, I can't walk you out in the morning dew today. I thought I heard a baby cry this morning, I thought I heard a baby cry this today. You didn't hear no baby cry this morning, You didn't hear no baby cry today. Where have all the people gone my honey, Where have all the people gone today. There's no need for you to be worrying about all those people, You never see those people anyway. I thought I heard a young man morn this morning, I thought I heard a young man morn today. I thought I heard a young man morn this morning, I can't walk you out in the morning dew today. Walk me out in the morning dew my honey, Walk me out in the morning dew today. I'll walk you out in the morning dew my honey, I guess it doesn't really matter anyway, I guess it doesn't matter anyway, I guess it doesn't matter anyway, Guess it doesn't matter anyway.

Grateful Dead - Truckin' Montage (1972, 1974, 1978, 1980, 1983, 1989, 1991) LoloYodel

11:57
... relax, just a voyage through time ! In fact, somewhat apropos ! as "Truckin'" is indeed a walk through time and place ! “Truckin'" (The Grateful Dead) : a LoloYodel video montage using 7 concerts (see below) Interpretation : The '60s was a time for traveling and discovering your place in the world. Sometimes what you found was an empty existence that just keeps repeating itself day to day. The Grateful Dead sang of acceptance of banality and the drive to continue their search for epiphany. One verse in particular: "What in the world ever became of sweet Jane, she lost her sparkle. Well you know she isn't the same. Living on reds, vitamin C and cocaine? All a friend can say is ain't it a shame" seems to refer to the endless desperation that overtakes some people. They turn to drugs to provide meaning in their lives. But they cannot provide answers to the meaning of life. Written by band members Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, and lyricist Robert Hunter, it molds classic Grateful Dead rhythms and instrumentation with lyrics that use the band's misfortunes on the road as a metaphor for getting through the constant changes in life. Its climactic refrain, "What a long, strange trip it's been," has achieved widespread cultural use in the years since the song's release. By 1974, “Truckin'” typically took its spot in the second set of a concert occasionally after a “He’s Gone” or after a “drums/space”, usually before “The Other One” or a “Stella Blue”, “Wharf Rat” … "Truckin" debuted as the first song in the first set on August 18, 1970 at The Fillmore in San Francisco and was performed 519 times, making it the eighth-most performed Dead song. It was most played from 1970 to 1974 and then NOT one rendition in 1976 and actually only reperformed in Sept. 1977 at Englishtown, NJ ! "Truckin" first appeared on their 1970 album “American Beauty” and was recognized by the United States Library of Congress in 1997 as a national treasure. Watch : throughout, all the Heads dancin' ! 1:07 Bobby f--ks up the lyrics 1:25 beautiful Bobby smile 2:07 good ol' Phil singin' his heart out 2:27 Bobby at his best ! 4:28 a hearty Brent smile 7:53 Pigpen ... discreet but there ! 9:17 a wonderfully happy man ------------------------- Audio : 1972 04-17 Tivoli Gardens, Danemark I chose this audio cause ... it rocks and also 'cause it has no segue/transition into another song, hence enambling this video to have a logical "end".
