Nor'Easter #3 in this March Nor'Easter Parade of 2018 is turning out to be Nasty. The West Coast including Washington, Oregon & California will get hit with wave after wave of rain and we've already got our sights set on the next Nor'Easter. God bless everyone, T https://www.paypal.me/THORnews https://www.patreon.com/thornews @newTHOR on twitter https://www.facebook.com/THORnewsthornews THORNEWS PO BOX 35946 HOUSTON TEXAS 77235-5946 article on the situation https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/mid-atlantic-snow-to-evolve-into-travel-halting-blizzard-in-new-england-early-this-week/70004372 Travel-halting blizzard eyes New England with heavy snow, ferocious winds Heavy snow and blizzard conditions may bring travel to a halt in Boston and Portland, Maine, on Tuesday. Greatest risk for widespread power outages and threat to lives and property to exist in eastern New England. Follow along with our live storm coverage. The disruptive snowstorm that targeted parts of the mid-Atlantic on Monday will lash eastern New England with blizzard conditions on Tuesday. The storm rapidly strengthened from early Monday to early Tuesday and underwent bombogenesis. While the storm is not the strongest of the winter to affect the region, it will still pack a punch and is producing snow all the way to Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Eastern New England is bracing for the worst of the storm with more than a foot of snowfall, blizzard conditions and strong winds. Storm to wind down in New York City early Tuesday afternoon The track of the storm will allowed the Interstate-95 corridor from Philadelphia to New York City to escape the worst of the nor'easter. Snowfall has been persistent enough from Trenton, New Jersey, to around the New York City area to bring a general 1-3 inches of slush with more on non-paved surfaces. Much heavier snow is forecast for eastern Long Island, New York where snowfall may top a foot. New England to face another nor'easter; Blizzard conditions to lash eastern areas Regardless of the amount of snow that falls for the duration around New York City and its suburbs, the storm is expected to be more disruptive and damaging across New England. The strengthening nor'easter will drop enough snow to plow, shovel and cause slick travel over New England into Tuesday night. The snow may continue to pile up across northern New England and parts of northern New York state on Wednesday and Thursday as the storm stalls over southeastern Canada. Snowfall in northern and eastern New England may exceed 2 feet in some locations into the middle of the week. Travel will be extremely difficult as the snow clogs roads. As is the case with many nor'easters, a span of 25 miles may be the difference between a manageable amount of snow to one that severely hampers travel and daily activities. Roofs, especially flat ones, that have not been cleared of the excessive snowfall from the last nor'easter may fail during this heavy snow event. Strong winds are expected to create dangerous blizzard conditions along the eastern coast of New England. Travel can be brought to a halt in Boston and Portland, Maine, on Tuesday. The ripple effect of flight cancellations at these major airports may impact air travelers elsewhere in the nation as crews and aircraft are displaced by the storm. The combination of the wind and snow can lead to renewed power outages and tree damage, especially where wires and branches have been weakened by the recent nor'easters. Winds can gust between 45 and 55 mph along the New England coast with gusts to around 70 mph possible on Cape Cod and the nearby islands. Motorists that venture out during or just prior to the storm's arrival will be at risk for getting stranded. A winter survival kit is a must for those who must travel. The storm will cause high winds and waves to pound the New England coast into Tuesday night. Residents along the coast can expect moderate to major flooding for two high tide cycles. Tides are expected to average 2-4 feet above normal with this storm. "As has been the case with the prior nor’easters in the past couple of weeks, small craft should remain in port as the storm approaches," Sosnowski said. "Large ocean-going vessels may want to consider altering their schedule until the risk of heavy seas subsides." While the impending nor’easter is expected to avoid the central Appalachians and Great Lakes, these areas will not escape cold winds, snow showers and localized squalls early this week. Cold air with brisk to blustery conditions is forecast to linger into the St. Patrick's Day weekend in the wake of the storm.

Two Air National Guard F-15s out of Portland International Airport went supersonic over the continental U.S. Tuesday, and the sonic booms were caught on local videos. The jets had been dispatched by NORAD. They had been granted permission to go supersonic to intercept an aircraft that was wandering near airspace that had been temporarily restricted during a Presidential visit to the region. The first video was shot in Seattle by a local news crew; the second, apparently by a local mother. The booms shocked many local residents who flooded 911 facilities with calls. The pilot of the small plane, a Cessna 180 on floats, was not met by the jets in the air but by Secret Service agents on the ground. Pilots are responsible for checking for temporary flight restrictions, but the restrictions are often posted with little notice in order to obscure the President's schedule. The FAA will determine what, if any, penalties the Cessna pilot will face. http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news/Seattle_SonicBoom_PresidentialTFR_203153-1.html

Playing Small Moment Nikki realized she was playing small when she applied for a job that was out of her wheelhouse. She packed up and moved to Colorado to work with children who had lived through one trauma or another in their lives. She had to learn how to stand on her own two feet, with a 50 lb backpack on top of a mountain. She realized at the moment how strong she actually had become. The Wake Up Call While Nikki was in Colorado, she met a 13-year-old girl. One day the teenager came up to Nikki and told her the story of the horrific abuse she had been through. Nikki didn’t know how to help her at the time. She quickly realized that she was going to have to be the one to help her. The ripple effect of helping this girl back in Colorado was the wakeup call Nikki needed, which changed her whole life path. HEADLINE: March storm dumps snow across East Coast CAPTION: A late-winter storm that closed schools from Georgia to Maine Monday is expected to finally stop dumping snow after midnight, but not before effecting most of the East Coast. (March 1) [Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] New York's famous yellow taxis slogged through snow and slush Monday. The Big Apple--and much of the East Coast felt the fury of an early March snowstorm that was expected to bring up to a foot of snow in places. At least one person in Times Square didn't see it as a winter wonderland. (SOT: ROBERT SALKEY/NEW YORK) NOT AT ALL. CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SUMMER TO COME IN. (SOT: TED SHAFFREY/THE ASSOCIATED PRESS) THE STORM HAS MADE AIR TRAVEL DIFFICULT. AT LEAST 900 FLIGHTS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED IN BOSTON AND HERE IN NEW YORK. THOSE CANCELLATIONS HAVE A RIPPLE EFFECT ACROSS THE COUNTRY. A high school band from Lankenshire, Illinois was just trying to get home. (SOT: TAYLOR LAWLESS/TRAVELER) (0:43) IT'S VERY VERY STRESSFUL TO REBOOK 150 PLANE TICKETS WHEN EVERYONE ELSE IS TRYING TO REBOOK AS WELL. Those cancellations were evident at the world's busiest airport. Huge numbers of people waited in line to reschedule flights in Atlanta. (SOT: JOHN HAYNES/TRAVELER) (1:26) IT'S JUST BEEN STANDING AROUND FOR 2 HOURS. AND YOU HAVE NO OPTION. THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. In Philadelphia, 16-year old Gus (pil-AHH-tay) Pallate snowboarded down the steps Rocky made so famous when he ran up them. (SOT: GUS PALLATE/SNOWBOARDER) (11:58:21) STAYED UP ALL NIGHT WAITING FOR THIS MORNING. (NATS SCRAPING) For others, the storm was more hassle than adventure. (SOT: JAY PEPITO/PHILADELPHIA) (12:05:19) I THOUGHT I'M GOING TO BE LATE FOR WORK. THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT, SO NOW I'M CLEARING IT OFF GETTING READY TO GO. Snow also blew through the nation's capital. The federal government told workers they could come in late or not even come in at all. Even in Boston, where snow is common, some people weren't happy to see it. (SOT: GREG STERNDALE) BOY. IT'S A LITTLE LATE IN THE SEASON FOR THIS. Three people in Massachusetts and Rhode Island died in snow-related car crashes. The National Weather Service says the last of the snow will move north of Maine after midnight. Five years ago Abigail Carroll was living in Paris, day trading stocks, and dating a French count. She never imagined that she would wind up an oyster farmer in her home state of Maine! But life is full of surprises. The biggest surprise for Abigail was how meaningful and fulfilling she found this new life as "The Oyster Lady" where she gets her hands dirty at work and is deeply involved in her local community. "Our actions," she says drawing upon French existentialism, "define us as human beings."

Two Giants of Avant-Garde Jazz! Their goal is to have these solos be an outgrowth of cultural perceptions and expectations. Paul started studying drums with Gene Krupa and then with Louis Bellson. By age 16 he was playing bebop with Billy Taylor. (Duke Ellington's bassist) After playing jazz and blues on the Washington scene for a few years, he split for the West Coast. While there he started playing Avant-Garde in San Francisco and the Bay Area. In 1974, Jimmy Lyons heard Paul play in Oakland and suggested he move to New York. In the summer of 1974 Paul joined Jimmy Lyons's group and for the next 8 years Paul played, recorded and toured the USA and Europe with Lyons. During his extremely busy time period in New York, Paul still found time to manage Rashied Ali's historic-legendary club "Ali's Alley" while he led his own quintet with John Coltrane's world famous trumpet player Dewey Johnson (from his profoundly momentous 'Ascension' recording), along with Jay Oliver on bass, Karen Borca on bassoon, and Mary Anne Driscoll on piano. Paul has been at the fore front of early Avant-Garde jazz with his remarkable and extraordinary drumming technique. His playing style is quite unique and very much his own. Larry Willis' first year of studying music theory was at the Manhattan School of Music. There he began performing regularly with Jackie McLean. After he graduated he made his first jazz recording, McLean's 'Right Now!' which featured two of his compositions. His first recording of any type, however, was as a singer with the Music and Arts Chorale Ensemble, performing an opera by Aaron Copland under the direction of Leonard Bernstein. He soon decided to concentrate on jazz because of the difficulties African American musicians had in finding work in concert music. Paul and Larry's latest recording 'Excursions' is a must hear for anyone interested in the high energy fusion principals of Bebop and Avant-Garde Jazz. This is Jazz at an impressive NEW level.

SPOT THE GHOST! Lee Berwick; sound, exploring the way it behaves in different resonant spaces, to create installations with sounds that relate back to the space in which they are installed, often using field recording and/or frequencies that are in tune with the location. A call for stories about Portland’s mysterious past led to all manner of responses - stories which at first may seem far fetched are, in fact, no more unbelievable than what is documented as fact in the island’s history. The Portland Spy Ring, a landscape dotted with strange masts and stories of long forgotten radio transmitters being discovered in dusty Portland lofts has led to a collaboration with sound artist Stephen Shiell to construct a radio theremin, a radio receiver and mast forming part of the installation. The work also uses directional speakers (developed for ship-to-ship communication by the armed forces), sound mirrors (the precursors of radar) and sub-bass. The sound mirrors are a collaboration with sculptor Rob Olins. Located within and around The High Angle Batteries, the installation will animate this enigmatic site - known locally as 'The Ghost Tunnels', using sub-sonics tuned to it's unique dimensions the outcome cannot be determined until Lee’s in-situ with the speakers: will we get ripples of sound, or intense areas of sound pressure - or something else?
