Howard University Student Laura Cofield Talks Alpha Kappa Alpha Lawsuit In Fox Interview

03:07
(Repost) https://KollegeKidd.com/ The Black Greek Letter community was rocked by recent news that the nation's oldest African American sorority was being sued for violation of human rights and allegations of hazing. In a lawsuit filed on Feb. 28 in federal court, Howard students Laurin Compton and Lauren Cofield allege the sorority's Alpha chapter barred them from entry due to their familial status. The young women happen to be "legacies," meaning their mothers are members of the sorority. Attorney J. Wyndal Gordon, Laura Cofield and mother Lessie Cofield appeared in a Fox television interview to explain their reasoning behind the lawsuit. Gordon called the lawsuit a "breach of contract case," saying Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority's "by-laws and constitution has a legacy clause." "What that clause says is that 'If you do certain things as a member; if you remain active, remain financial in the organization, then you have the right to bestow the legacy status upon your daughter,' so Miss Cofield did everything she was supposed to do to be able to benefit from that right," he said. The Sorority, founded Jan. 15, 1908, issued the following statement: Despite the plaintiff's disappointments and complaints, AKA did not violate the legacy clause in its constitution and by-laws because that is not a guarantee of membership to a particular chapter, but simply provides for priority process. Gordon refuted that statement, saying, "It is a guarantee of membership provided that the candidate does everything they're supposed to do. It does allow a priority. Legacies go first and then everybody else afterwards. These are not our rules. This is in the AKA constitution." Lessie Cofield, a 30-year member of AKA, called the rejection of her daughter's entry into her beloved sorority "personal" given the fact she has done her service, "supported fund-raisers," and "attended chapter meetings." "This is where most of my friends are," said Cofield, who is an Alpha chapter initiate. "Most of my friends either pledged me or I pledge them. My husband also graduated from Howard. We have a big circle of friends. My friends have known my daughter her whole life and watched her grow up to become a remarkable young woman. They are actually saddened by the fact she is not on the line." Laura Cofield says the biggest misconception is that she feels she is entitled to wear the letters of Pink and Green. But she does feel she did everything she was "supposed to do as a student." "I've always kept my grades up, I've been very, very active on my campus, I've really honestly been a model student," she said. The young women alleged they were subjected to hazing rituals, which included being called "weak bitches" and being forbidden from wearing pink and green colors and white pearls. The young women are reportedly seeking monetary damages and want the court to halt the sorority's pledge process. ~Subscribe & Follow https://KollegeKidd.com on Twitter: https://twitter.com/KollegeKidd ~Like on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kollege-Kidd/188561194527170 ~Follow Instagram Page Here: http://instagram.com/kollegekidd/ ~Collegiate NeTVision (CNV) · http://www.kollegekidd.com ~Subscribe To Kollege Kidd 2nd Channel Here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXpGi22cKtuNtiKUqFjj8BQ ~Subscribe To Kollege Kidd Music Channel Here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkE-cwInwMWYJpFBr6leejA KollegeKidd.com Is The Leader In Hip Hop News and Urban Edutainment

UAlbany students arrested for hazing

01:36
ALBANY -- Several Universityat Albanystudents were charged with hazing and unlawful assembly after police officersfound them forcing pledges to lay face down in water while being hit withpaddles and rubber hoses. A neighbor called 911 to report a disturbance at 470 Hudson Avenue earlyFriday morning. Officers witnessed 14 people in the basement participating inan apparent initiation for a fraternity that was not sanctioned by theuniversity.  "Officers when they went down the stairs said it wasvery disturbing and quickly put it to a halt. seven people were arrested," saidSteve Smith with the Albany Police Department. In addition to the seven arrested for hazing, policearrested a neighbor, Philip Terra, 21, for pushing an officer to try to getinside. A ninth person, Frank Calandra, 18, was arrested on a drug charge. Neighbors said they frequently hear loud noisescoming from the home at all hours of the day and night. "Itwas my first night had all the lights off, was lying in the bed and I heard theyelling and screaming because I didn't know what it was, but then my roommatetold me there was a frat house next door and I should probably get used to it,"said Jazmine Delgado, who lives next door. "Whoever their fraternity leader is,he's like a drill sergeant. You can hear when he comes in the house and he'syelling and screaming that he wants them to do whatever it is he wants them todo." Delgadosaid she and her neighbors often brushed off the noise because it happened sofrequently.  "OnFriday when I heard the noises I didn't think they were cops and they werebeing arrested I chalked it up to another frat party," said Delgado.  TheUniversity issued a statement after the arrest to confirm eight of the ninearrested were students and point out they were not members of a recognizedfraternity. "UAlbany is taking immediate action againstthose involved in this off-campus incident through the campus judicialdisciplinary process. UAlbany proactivelyeducates students and parents about hazing issues and has a zero tolerancepolicy for any actions that are physically and mentally abusive to thewell-being of another," read the statement from spokesperson Karl Luntta. "TheUniversity at Albanycontinues to work in partnership with the Albany Police Department toinvestigate these allegations as well as to address any other behavior andquality of life issues occurring in the neighborhoods where our students reside." The university posts a list of 11 fraternities andsororities that are no longer recognized or considered active. It is considereda violation of the student code to "affiliate" with the organizations. "This is one of those things that's been happeningforever and everybody knows that it's been happening forever," said a neighbor, who declined to provide their name. "When you join an illegal fraternity, likethis one was not sanctioned by U. Albany, it's essentially a gang.  John Storte, 19, Nicholas Salamone, 20, Joseph Lane, 20 and Anthony Morello, 20,were charged with Hazing 2nd, Criminal Nuisance 2nd and UnlawfulAssembly. Vincent Serrecchia, 20, Joseph Sheehan, 21, and AnthonyWarme, 20, were charged with Hazing 2nd and Unlawful Assembly.Sheehan was the victim of a late September shooting less than a block away fromthe home. Warme was the only person arrested who was not a U. Albany student.  Some of the pledges received minor cuts, but declinedmedical attention. "I feel bad for the kids that it happened to, but joiningan illegal fraternity you have to know those risks," said Delgado. "They're notaccredited by the university, so there's got to be a problem there."

Greek Alphabet Song

02:13
A song I made to help me remember the Greek alphabet a very long time ago when I was Pledging Chi Phi. It's a little over 2 minutes long and it's pretty repetitive so that helped. It's basically of a parody of Daft Punk's "Technologic," but I used the Greek alphabet as the lyrical inspiration.

Greek alphabet the CORRECT pronunciation

04:55
MY FACEBOOK https://www.facebook.com/tic.tac.395?fref=ts MY TWITTER https://twitter.com/TicTacOfficial1 I have seen many videos on youtube about the Greek Alphabet and everyone's question was What is the right pronunciation of the letters? First of all I'd like to tell you, that pronunciation doesn't really matters. I mean it's not so important if you say "beta" or "βήτα" Or if you say "Gama" or "γαμα" because when you put the letters in order to make a word, they will sound just fine. What they did, was that they replaced the ancient Greek letters with English characters. For example the letter "Y" ύψιλον was written "ὒ ψιλόν". So they replaced the first "υ" with "u" because it was looking pretty much the same and they haven't thought of the pronunciation which is a little bit different. In this video you see the CORRECT pronunciation of the letters. Wherever you hear the letter G, replace it with W its closer to Greek pronunciation For example if you take the word «Γαμάω» which means "I f**k" you would probably pronounce it like "ga-ma-o". But if you replace "G" with "W" it sounds like "wa-ma-o" which is closer to the Greek pronunciation. By the way, the word "γαμάω" its not actually a bad word. It comes from the ancient Greek word «γαμέω» which means "I get married", but in modern Greek it is used as a swear.

Alpha Phi Alpha is the first Black, inter-collegiate Greek-lettered fraternity. It was founded on December 4, 1906 at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Its founders are known as the "Seven Jewels". It employs an icon from Ancient Egypt, the Great Sphinx of Giza, as its symbol. Its aims are "manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind," and its motto is First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All. Its archives are preserved at the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center. Chapters were chartered at Howard University and Virginia Union University in 1907. The fraternity has over 290,000 members and has been open to men of all races since 1940. Currently, there are more than 730 active chapters in the Americas, Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, and Asia.
