Thanks I'm gunna start at your basic and write them down they dropped Ukrainian in my high school which made me mad. Thank you I can't wait to move there!

Come on but let's be honest. Ukrainian language doesn't have slang of its own yet.almost all the words you mentioned are just ukrainianised russian slang words, like прикольно, круто, класно, глупо, на шару, по барабану, пацани, дружаня (i've never even heard of this one before). but considering our history and all the efforts the russians put throughout centuries to destroy our language it's no wonder.

I'm not sure anyone says Hunky-Dory anywhere since the 1970's.

that's the problem. as a non native speaker I often don't know if the word i'm interested in is used by natives or not.

I think my English level is intermediate. Learning foreign languages is easy for me, but I still don't know a lot of words from English, because I don't use them. So I can speak, but reading English literature is very hard for me)  Watching movies - it depends on movies. Some of them are simple, and sometimes I don't understand anything)))
Andrew Sul (3 years ago)
PS. How much of the English language to you know? you speak English very well. what about reading in English?
Andrew Sul (3 years ago)
Well I understand Ukrainian language fluently, reading Ukrainian well not as good. I'm learning to read again I know my BOOKVA alphabet also speaking it's about 90% I'm getting to know it through modern Ukrainian Movies and I also love Дзідзьо he comes from where my mothers home town was and he speaks like my parents. my god he is so funny How much you know about Ukraine in Australia? We know everything that is happening in Ukraine, we also have an x military man who goes back to Ukraine almost every year with money for our men who are fighting in Donbass. I follow as much as I can all the music which is happening all over Ukraine because I am part of the local Ukrainian Radio station, and I try and introduce the younger generation to many of the Ukrainian bands. Most young Ukrainian guys in Australia like Heavy Metal music like Metallica! and I have found for them bands as good if not better in Ukraine :) I personally like all types of Ukrainian music  there are some things about Ukraine we don't know, our parents came to Australia in 1950-1960 but just recently we have had some young Ukrainians who have only been in Australia a few months, and most don't speak English or very little, its great for us to be with them, we get to know from them about Ukraine today in the modern time, not just stories from бабушка or from mother how it was. I have to say one thing it's so hard to get Ukrainian movies hear, thank god for the internet, I want to get films which have English sub-tiles funny thing is there are so many Russian films in Australia and with English sub-tiles. Im not that interested in Russian films :(

Olga Reznikova (3 years ago)
Nata Br (3 years ago)
Olga Reznikova (3 years ago)
